Money Moral Dilemma: Should I pay for the groom to eat and drink on his stag do?

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
My friend is getting married next year, and his bride-to-be is insistent that we should pay for his whole stag do, including all his drinks, food and other spending. We're going to Berlin, and only expected to pay for his flights and hotel. Is it fair to ask him to pay?

No you shouldn't, if it's his stag do he should chip in for the first round anyway then all get your own drinks. But if he should choose to go further afield for his stag do then he should pay his share:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

It's one thing paying for the groom for a meal out at the local pub and some beers, among friends..... jaunting across the continent and giving him a free-for-all card is utterly ridiculous.
I'd have dipped out of going entirely in any case, having to fund the flights/hotel would've been well beyond my means.... indeed, I'd have not been able to afford that for myself.
Get him a "Have a happy Stag Do" card and bung £20 in it. Walk away.0 -
Wow, the bride to be sounds like a cheeky mare. I would say 'yeah we will pay for him, but the stag party is in Blackpool now.'
How dare she demand you pay for him? Bet she will be a nightmare to be married to; cheeky bint.cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -

So...is this real or hypothetical?0

the simple answer is no you should not, yes it is his apparent last rite of passage but he is choosing to go miles away, chip in a bit for his hotel but flights and drinks are all his0

Firstly I think you should tell her to mind her own business. The stag do has nothing to do with her.
There is no real right answer to this. I recently went on a stag do to Eastern Europe and we paid for the stags flights and hotel. Worked out about £15 each. However he took his own money to pay for stuff while out there. I think this is the best solution but it's essentially up to you guys.0 -
I wouldn't dream of paying for him and especially not if forced - stags and brides seem to have about 3 do's now - utterly disrespectful to think friends should pay for all of that!0
