    Which edf deal is this?

    Blue+Price Promise November 2016

Note that the pricing is wildly different for different regions - hence the "for me".

That's 35% more than the figure for me with the Eon deal. I'm in Worcestershire.

Ok thanks. For me that deal is a pound more a month than i'm paying now with edf. Eon it is then.

Well, you were warned! I'm in the Eastern region where, for my figures the Annual rate is £1,568 - whereas the same figures in Taunton produce an Annual of £1,907 - largely due to the unit rate for electricity being 32.4% greater. I've never come across such big regional differences.

BTW, my £7 figure comes from CEC's own comparison of the EdF and MSE tariffs. This highlights a shortcoming of the CEC website in that the £7 is correct in a calculation that includes unit rates, standing charges and tariff discounts - but it apparently takes no account of the Tesco Points discount for the MSE tariff. A discount is a discount!

Hmm. I'd happily sacrifice that £1 for the greater switching flexibility.

EDIT: There are two scenarios. If prices fall, you're stuffed on the MSE deal. If prices rise, then the EdF deal gives you two extra cheap months.

The cheap energy club is saying that the eon deal is £91 cheaper over the year than i am paying now on edf Blue+Price Promise July 2016 or rather £8 a month.

I do agree that the exit fee is very high which is why i still haven't signed up. But £8 a month is still a good saving and i don't think that even if energy prices come down that they will come down much lower than the Eon deal.

It's also dependent on usage. So for me (also in the Eastern region) the EDF deal is around 6% more expensive than the Eon one.

Yes, the only cheaper item in the comparison is the gas unit rate, but with it, in Eastern, being 11% less, for me it undercuts the MSE deal gas by a significant £94 p.a. - just about balancing out the worse electricity unit rate, standing charges and tariff-related discounts.

    Hi Pollymaff

I thought I'd explain why we don't take £15 off the total shown to you.

As the Eon Reward points aren't a discount on the price you pay for your energy, we don't think its right to automatically take this off your estimated costs per year (its also part of Ofgem's regulations that these type of promotions are shown separately).

But you're right, for some people these have a greater value and could be factored in when working out whether to switch to Eon or elsewhere.

    Hope that makes sense.

Yes, I had assumed that this was the case, Dan - and agree with your logic vis-a-vis what you actually pay. In the past I've criticised you for over-egging your case - but in this case the benefit is on par with the switching kick-back, and perhaps deserves similar prominence?
