MSE big switch eon to eon?

I've just switched from a standard Eon fixed price tariff to the MSE one and it looks as though I should make a pretty big saving , about 20% according to my calculation. I was only 2 weeks away from the end of my fixed deal so didn't have to pay the exit fee and the switch was almost instant, prior to the switch I was £20 in credit and that jumped to £40 afterwards.
This is all great, but what annoys me is that despite being a loyal Eon customer for several years they couldn't offer me such a good deal directly. I'd already spoken to them that morning to ask what was the best deal they had when my tariff ended, and was quoted one costing an estimated £200 more than I'm now set to pay. They clearly rely on people being too lazy to shop around and hope you'll just take whatever they offer.0 -

But... You could look at it this way. By taking more money from people without the knowledge or inclination to switch, they are able to offer a really cheap deal through these collective switches.
If they offered a cheaper deal to all customers, you'd probably not be able to save as much.0 -

Blame Ofgem. It sets the regulations pertaining to the number of tariffs each supplier can offer. You will note that the MSE CEC tariff does not appear on E.oN's website: it is a deal negotiated via an intermediary. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I'm an existing Eon customer and I have opted to switch to the collective tariff. Got the confirmation e-mail from MSE on 10th Sep, but nothing from Eon so far. Having seen the quick response some people on this thread have had from Eon, is there a problem with this response time or is everything running to plan?
I did receive an e-mail from Eon today, but that was to remind me that my existing tariff was running out and I should think about what new tariff I should opt for after the end date.
The problem with this system is that you have to believe MSE have done the job right at their end, and Eon are working on the switchover, but what if they haven't been told?
Update
This morning I received confirmation of switchover to the new tariff, backdated to the day of my application. Confusingly, no one has asked for a meter reading, so I have submitted one anyway. I don't see how you can bill a switch in tariffs without knowing the last tariff's consumption readings.
Hi LesU
Glad you've received the email confirming your switch to the MSE Collective Tariff. I'm not aware of any particular difficulties with these switches. They're done manually rather than through our standard systems. Depending on the demand, it can take a few days for applications to go through. As an existing customer, I would expect your switch to have hit our systems within 3-5 working days of you receiving the email from the Cheap Energy Club (CEC). It can, though, take up to 14 working days. As in your case, they'll be backdated to the date of the application.
Do you have an online account? If you do, have a look at this. Once logged in, your current tariff will be shown on the right hand side of the first page.
Thanks, too, for giving us a meter reading. This will keep the account accurate. We don't ask for readings when switching from one E.ON tariff to another. When billing, we'll estimate readings for the date of the switch based on past usage. If you wish, you can create your own bill online using the Real Time Billing tool on our website. Just pop in readings and go for the 'Request a Bill' option. Readings can be entered up to 7 days in the past.
Hope this is of interest LesU. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.

Can someone tell me the rates for gas on the MSE Eon tariff (collective). I can see the electricity prices there but not the gas.
Thanks0 -

I've also been searching for an answer to this question.
I've been with Eon quite a while now as they have been involved in a number of collective switches.
When I switched via Cheap Energy Club (2 switches ago) I'm pretty sure I didn't receive any cashback.
I'm currently on the moneysupermarket collective with Eon, fixed until June 2016 with no exit fees. I did however receive £30 cash back.
Still debating whether to switch again as the prices are the same. I would be extending my fix by 3 months for a £60 exit fee.
£30 cashback may sway my decision.0 -

Not especially hardIt's been answered at least twice in this thread alone. And in the post directly under the one you quoted.
Hi Phillw
Yes that's right - all switches submitted through our site are eligible for cashback, including if you're just moving tariffs with your existing provider.
Hope that clarifies.0 -

If you mean on the CEC site full info pane, immediately above the figures you mention are two tabs, Gas and Electricity. Click. Can't tell you the rates as it will depend on your location.0 -
Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster.
I moved into a new property (as a tenant in a rented property) on the 5th and took over the existing EON supply. I set up a new account on that day and was placed onto the standard energy tariff (which seems ridiculously expensive). I decided to go with this new collective switch plan and applied through the MSE site yesterday evening.
I put in all the information as requested and got a confirmation screen at the end, however I didn't get any email to say that the switch application request went through.
Should I be worried? And generally what's the time-frame for this switch to take place? The shorter amount of time I am on the standard plan obviously the better for the wallet.
Thanks!0 -

Hi G.K. and welcome to the Forums.
I'm sorry you're annoyed with us but, it's not that we rely on customers not shopping around; it's that we're not allowed to promote collective schemes. They're not one of our core tariffs and stand outside the main industry framework. Thought it might help if I explain a bit more about these arrangements.
As Hengus says, we're only allowed to offer 4 core credit tariffs and these are the ones on our website and available through the sales teams. These'll be the ones you spoke to our advisor about.
Collective switching involves a number of people coming together, via a Third Party, to negotiate a particular tailored deal. Provided certain rules are met, the industry regulator lets us take part in these schemes without compromising our core tariffs. These rules include the need for customers to apply through the Third Party and not the supplier. We're not allowed to promote, sell or switch anyone to a collective tariff like the MSE offer that ends later today. This includes keeping it off our website. Instead, customers have to apply via the Third Party. In this case, the Cheap Energy Club. A breach of these rules would put us in seriously hot water with the regulator.
Also, don't worry about switching between any of our tariffs. Exit fees are only charged if customers change supplier whilst still on a contracted product. They aren't charged when moving from one E.ON tariff to another regardless of when the switch takes place.
Sorry again for the annoyance G.K. but hope this explains why we can't offer collective deals directly.
