  • Oddly, CEC tells me that scottish power's september fix is £2 more per month than what I currently pay, but scottish power themselves say it's £6 cheaper per month - both use the same information.

I have now been told that I will be contacted in 3 days for a meter reading so all seems to be going to plan.
I have just had a bill from my current supplier M&S Energy and I am in credit by £39. I think so may get a refund on this .Mind you I will be paying for the electricity since I read the meter 10 days or so ago. But at least I don't owe them anything
Was very cautious about changing as I have read to many nightmare stories. To date all seems to be good so maybe my fears were unfounded. ! Thanks Sue
  • Hi G.K. and welcome to the Forums.

I'm sorry you're annoyed with us but, it's not that we rely on customers not shopping around; it's that we're not allowed to promote collective schemes. They're not one of our core tariffs and stand outside the main industry framework. Thought it might help if I explain a bit more about these arrangements.

As Hengus says, we're only allowed to offer 4 core credit tariffs and these are the ones on our website and available through the sales teams. These'll be the ones you spoke to our advisor about.

Collective switching involves a number of people coming together, via a Third Party, to negotiate a particular tailored deal. Provided certain rules are met, the industry regulator lets us take part in these schemes without compromising our core tariffs. These rules include the need for customers to apply through the Third Party and not the supplier. We're not allowed to promote, sell or switch anyone to a collective tariff like the MSE offer that ends later today. This includes keeping it off our website. Instead, customers have to apply via the Third Party. In this case, the Cheap Energy Club. A breach of these rules would put us in seriously hot water with the regulator.

Also, don't worry about switching between any of our tariffs. Exit fees are only charged if customers change supplier whilst still on a contracted product. They aren't charged when moving from one E.ON tariff to another regardless of when the switch takes place.

Sorry again for the annoyance G.K. but hope this explains why we can't offer collective deals directly.

This was really helpful. I was in the same boat with my fixed rate E.ON tariff expiring end of October. I now understand why you have to do what you have to do as it didn't make sense before. All part of the problem caused by OFGEM restricting suppliers to four tariffs I guess. I've been really happy with E.ON for many years and hope the switch that is not a switch goes according to plan!!!!!
  • Same here, it's been more than 24 hours since I switched but I've had no email.

I just logged back into cheap energy club, and it tells me I have a switch in progress, so I assume they are working on it.

    Morning carmina piranha

Have you received an email from the Cheap Energy Club (CEC) advising the switch is in progress? If you have, don't worry, we'll have received your application.

Have a look at my reply to deanoaka above (post 167). I suspect a lot of what I said there could apply to you. Mainly the stuff about time scales and back dating the MSE tariff to the time you applied. Also, the bit about computer settings. Setting E.ON as a trusted site is a way round this if you're having difficulties receiving our emails.

Sorry our website's down at the moment. When it's back up, if you've an online account, check out the current tariff on the right hand side of the first page.

    Hope this helps carmina piranha.

    Morning Sue

Glad things are going as they should. Once we've taken the opening reading, we'll send it to M&S so they can close their account to the same reading and issue a final bill. This is to make sure you're not charged twice for the same electricity.

If you register with our website, you can see how the move's going through the 'Track My Switch' tool.

Hope this is of interest Sue. You know where I am if you've any concerns.

Glad my post was helpful dgp1000 and that we've looked after you over the years. Have a look at the couple of the replies I posted above (posts 167 & 175). Bit of information about timescales etc that might be of interest.

I fear that time has made the decision for you. Unless I have missed something, I think that the MSE offer closed last night.

That's right Hengus. The offer closed at 11pm last night. The deadline was extended for an hour due to technical difficulties with the Cheap Energy Club website earlier in the day.
