  • Quite proud of myself today! Went to deposit £78.60 to our current account (left over from last week's budget plus payback for spends on debit card that should have been taken from the envelopes.) The bank is in the middle of a shopping centre and I managed to keep myself from spending! I didn't know I could have that much self control. I also finished all my transactions 15 minutes earlier than planned so I managed to drive to work at a leisurely pace thereby saving a bit of petrol. I was supposed to have DS2's phone screen but the shop was closed (?for lunch). Will get DH to do that tomorrow or next week when he's off.

  • Hello everyone, the turtle gang seem to be doing well this month! 5 SFDs here and today should make it six.

Loved the comment about eating an elephant (tog?) when I'm working at any big thing (work projects/savings/my never-ending PhD) it always helps me to break it down and focus on one bite at a time. We should definitely savour every bite too - achieving each small goal should be celebrated so we don't feel down about the long road ahead.

Bob, I've been meaning to ask for ages, what does PAD stand for?

Doing my best to reduce food waste today (if not my waistline :rotfl:) by having HM apple pie that needed eating for breakfast, leftovers from catering on a course yesterday for lunch and a YS egg custard for afters :D Putting a small chicken in the slow cooker for when I get home from my bike maintenance course tonight, which will do me 3 roast dinners, stock for a soup, and a batch of curry of about 6 portions.

Heading to the allotment now for a few hours - 6th day in a row and it's starting to look much better! Hugs and high fives to al who need them x

Welshkitty spaghetti tip taught to me by Italian friend is bring to boil, switch off then cover with a clean tea towel and a lid. Result perfect pasta all the time.

Had an energetic walk this morning walked 4 1/2 miles around a mountain, then decided to walk up steepest path I could find to the summit and then then choose a horrid path to come down, all loose scree. Walk total just under 9 miles. Ouch my calf muscles ache

Made a spaghetti bol. And a chilli. Grandson collected essential shop lidl milk and salad stuff. Felt sorry for him tonight only 4 and 'doesn't want to go school everyday''. So tired out.

Cheers up folks, go for walk has made me brighter. Bob your right.

Debt can wait till next month, no point fretting about over payments can't make.

Had a cake and a brew when I reached summit today. Needed a sugar boost, never has an almond tart tasted so good.

National Trust card using tomorrow somewhere so nice having time off work.

    Look after yourselves.

Hi there. PAD is Payment A Day, one of the challenges on here. It tends to be people paying off their debt, so the idea is paying even 1p per day is helping. Many pledge around £1 a day, but there are some whopping ones coming in this month:T:T but some people are debt free & are putting it towards savings, mortgage repayments whatever is important to them.

I warn you, should you get caught up in the PAD zone, its pretty addictive. :D

    Hi All

Traveller - I totally agree with Apple, clearing 11k in 2 years did you say? That is epic.

NannyG - A while ago up thread you were discussing the jobs you'd done around your children growing up, & said you thought things were easier then. I meant to reply & say, I doubt it! I think raising children before easily available credit must have been super hard. Ok so you didnt get into debt because you couldnt, but there must have been times for lots of people that things were really hard. So dont do yourself down, you raised 3 kids whilst working. That is a big achievement.

LuckyStarr- Hope you are able to find your own home very soon.

TOG - I hear you. I must admit, going in early this morning & the extra hour on my feet wasnt what I wanted either. Sometimes "you gotta get off your horse and drink your milk :)" or words to those affect.

Dolly -Sons school are just switching to hot lunches from lunchboxes. Now they have a new facility for this. Im with you, I'd much rather continue to provide it, for similar costs that you mention. He has a hot meal for dinner each night, but there you go...

WelshKitty - We'll let your hubby off as he was ill :)

Syn - Great waste using up there :)

Calling - Glad you had a good walk today, even if you did pick a bl00dy mountain :)

Thanks for all the good wishes for today. It went pretty well, up to 6pm...
Anyway yes the filming, they took forever to get the first shot set up, & overran by 30 mins, but they did spend money whilst there, & even treated some of my early customers to coffees to make up for taking over the place. All good.
Pretty average day other than that all told, then at 6pm tonight my poor husband called me to say his brand new bike had been stolen from the train station. We are both so upset really, it cost £400, and had been purchased via a company loan scheme, so we havent even paid 1p off yet. Have had a quick look at our home insurance and we may be covered, but there is a £150 excess....so by the time we do that, the premiums going up etc it may not be worth it. What a pile of old pants!

Anyway! Worse things do happen dont they, but its just so gutting that anyone would do that to another person.

On that note! I need to get my son to bed as Im a bit late with all the excitment going on.

    Bye

    Bob

Bob - there are somr right rotters about. The only bikes I see at the traim station or tram stop are very basic, tatty-lookimg ones that no one would want to steal. But it is galling. Hugs.

Syn - love your eclectic meal combinations!

Calling - awesome walking! Hope your dgs enjoys school. Well done, putting the debt on hold - fretting is not a good thing.

    Evening all,

Oh no bob - how horrible some people are :( Are you sure claiming will have a massive impact on the premiums? When I had to claim on insurance for my cat's broken leg (vets bill was nearly £2000), my premium went up by £2 a month.

    Welcome deafleopard :)

the only girl - hope you get some r&r in between working. Well done on resisting the shops :)

dolly - all your exercise is making me feel tired by just reading about it!

syn - time on the allotment sounds like a lovely way to spend the day :)

calling - your day sounds lovely and you are right, there is no point in fretting, just do what we can :)

I woke up this morning, all snuggly and warm and suddenly realised the heating was on!!!!!!! Turns out the house temperature had dropped to below 17 degrees, which is where I had left the thermostat at the end of spring. I have dropped the temperature on the thermostat so tomorrow, I will wake up to a cool house and a cold towel for my shower, but its worth it!

Today has been SFD number 6 :) I don't know what I've done but with various money coming in and out of my many accounts, my money is all over the place and I suddenly don't have any money in the bank, even though my spreadsheets say I should. So I won't be spending anything else this month unless its vital. I am lucky enough to have food in the cupboard and a roof over my head :)

  • Evening all. I'm at a bit of a loss tonight because I was suddenly sitting at 8pm with nothing to do. I thought I'd forgotten something, but it just turns out I finally had an evening without any extra plans. Might even get an early night.
Bob so sorry to read about the bike - I'm so sad for you and DH... :( some rotters out there.
So, work was manic as per usual, and I got a NSD as usual. Did a sneaky PAD of £5 as well. Other than that, I've done very little MSE or otherwise. It's still only Wednesday as well.
