    Hi everyone!

Bob how awful about the bike!

Have had a good, productive day today. complained to the company that made my business cards as they weren't much better than I could manage on my home computer, not as professional as I thought they would be. So today I have had a refund for the full £22 and get to keep the cards. I will use them for now as they were free and get some better ones next time. Have put £10 to the credit card, £10 to savings, and £2 for a small item for the business. Counting it as a SFD as the spend came from my refund.

In much more exciting news, I had a phone call to say I've been awarded a grant for £1000 towards my masters, which is a HUGE help!

I've also had some more interest in my business which will hopefully convert into a booking.
  • So not been the best at keeping up with the forum. I have managed to have a SFD today and yesterday but not the weekend or Monday. I did a big shop on Saturday but did not have enough time to go to our local farm stall for some fruit I wanted so ended up having to buy it on Sunday making it a spendy day also. Monday should have been a SFD but my husband went into my purse in the morning for some change for the bus without telling me and I had counted out the exact money I needed for buses that day (money coming out of a pot so doesn't count towards spending each time I use the bus). I didn't notice until I was at the bus stop getting on my first bus and realised I would have to take out money and get change for my second bus. So I ended up buying a bottle of orange squash to keep at work to stop me going out to buy cans of coke so not a bad spend, I would normally have just bought a coke or chocolate bar to break the money. My son had a party invite for this Thursday so I thought as I had already spent money that day that I would buy a birthday present for his friend that day too. Already got a card and wrapping stuff in the house. As I said managed a SFD NSD yesterday and today. Today was hard though, I am such an overeater that although I had enough lunch with me at work I had to really curb the addictive desire to go out and buy myself more food. When I left work I got a waft of the fish and chip shop which made it worse. I am glad I didn't cave as my DH made a delicious chicken tikka masala with rice and naan (YS naan I had put in the freezer previously) for our tea. So overall doing well with eating breakfast at home, taking lunches to work and eating a home cooked evening meal and getting there with the NSDs. I'll try harder to post daily where possible.

TOG - good luck with your interview.

Yesterday was a NSD so now up to 4/20, today wasn't as we got the weekly shopping in but I went to the gym this morning 2/12. Nothing much else to report.

Heating - we've got storage heaters in the flat and it's a bit embarrassing to admit but I still don't really know how to work them properly after living here for 9 years :o however it means that the only time we use the heating (even in dec/jan and we're in northern Scotland) is to occasionally turn them on first thing in the morning to take the chill off the sitting room. We're all about cosy socks, blankets and hot water bottles here :D

Snap! I also have storage heaters and after nearly 6 years I am still not sure about how to use them properly :o

    Thanks all!

Calling - he still has his old bike. It is minus one brake so that needs a new cable. And he has to buy bike lock 4 of this year! (Don't ask) but at least it won't ruin our daily routine either.

Welshkitty- that is brilliant news!!! So pleased for you. Also good about the business cards.

Fmess - sorry to hear you've somehow messed up your money. Sometimes it's just a matter of going back over things to find the glitch. Hope that's all it is.

498louise - well done resisting the delicious smells of the takeaway.

Hi everyone, sorry for the absence. Bob, what awful news regarding your husbands bike:mad:I'm glad it went well with the film crew .
Thanks for highlighting guys, my repayments,it made me feel a lot more positive. It feels like yesterday I joined the group, lol. Despite the fact I will still have debt,I'll focus on the positive in that the amount I set out to clear,I hopefully would have at the end of the month. My health feels a lot better today. Sorry I haven't addressed everyone indivually tonight,as I feel a bit tired. But take care everyone and have a good evening .

I don't know if it's worth it bob but my ex bought a bike lock that came with a guarantee that if anyone managed to steal your bike whilst locked with their lock, they'd pay for the bike. Think it cost about £30/40 from Halfords.

  • Good evening everyone!

Bob  on the filming and the added trade it gave you. about the sad news of your hubby's bike being stolen. Not a very good news indeed. Fmess is right, claiming it on your home insurance might not make a dramatic increase in the future premium.

welshkitty congratulations on the £1000 grant for your masters. It will be a big boost to your finances. I'm happy to hear about your business too and well done on asserting about your business cards. As they say in my part of the country shy bairns get nowt.

synonymous and calling you're both doing really well on the exercise, with the allotment and the morning walk, respectively. It's not just the exercise you have benefitted from - you had fresh air (unlike the "fake air" we get indoors at work and best of all - sunshine. Even when you think it's grey and gloomy there's plenty of invisible rays to keep you healthy.

498louise give yourself a pat on the back for resisting the temptation of the take away. It's not always easy when they are flooding your senses with their sights and smell. I had a similar thing when I went to the bank in the middle of the shopping centre. I had Sainsbob, Subway, McDo, Dicksons, Mr. A right on my path going and coming from the bank. Then at work, my colleague and I had lunch together and we went to the canteen, she had her bought lunch of chicken korma and chips and rice and I had my LTW of WW chicken salad wrap and cherries (YS). She had a cake for dessert and I nearly gave in, but I resisted.

fmess please try not to let the financial mess this month get you down. It's only 2 1/2 weeks away from October and you can wipe the slate clean again then. It will get better. We have just become debt free but there are days when hubby feels really down. He says we are debt free and we are following the budget to the letter but how come it feels like we are still so poor. Especially when he sees some of our friends enjoying fine things in life, holidays here and there, parties for the sake of having parties, even without occasion, brand new cars, branded clothes. All of which we can't enjoy. I just keep reminding him of what Dave Ramsey always says, if you live like no one else, later you will live like no one else. He also says, Don't keep up with the Joneses, they are broke.

Day 3 of my 7 in a row done! Nearly halfway there! I thought it would be NSD today with a very good start resisting the shop this morning but hubby went to Asian shop this afternoon to buy soy sauce and some fish and asked me to pick up some packed lunchy things for him and the DS's on my way home. Not a big spend though because I bought mostly YS everything from the bakery section in Mr A was down to 2p (those that are best before today). A good day for wombling today - found a crumpled Sainsbob receipt with 9 unclaimed points. Had it added on to my nectar card. I've got £7.98 worth of points, which I'm saving up for the "rainy days". Picked up several receipts from Mr. A, 3 of which gave me vouchers for the price guarantee, values of £2.98, £0.88, and £0.84 (total of £4.65). Found a penny behind the coinstar in sainsbob and 1p in the car park in Mr. A.. All receipts to be uploaded to Checkout smart and Clicksnap. Still have to check if items on wombled receipts qualify for any cashback. This is getting addictive Bob. My eyes are constantly peeled.

Thanks for that Fmess and also the info on your insurance premiums after a claim. I will be looking into every option. Appreciate the support.

The Only Girl - sorry your husband has felt down about the budget. Is there any scope for a small period of living a bit more lavishly before knuckling down to the mortgage free challenge? You really have moved mountains to clear the level of debt you had. Perhaps it does deserve a proper celebration? But only you know if that is a possibility.
You are doing so well with your wombling. I have encountered a situation which I was going to write about on the wombling thread but will mention here too.
I reached the £4 payout limit. Well my balance shows £4.15. On shoptize. Having requested a payout via BACS which is free I was surprised when it kept glitching & wouldn't issue the payout. Having contacted them and being told to try again making sure I removed any characters that might confuse it which I did. It still wouldn't work.
At which point they oddly informed me that I have a 'rogue' reciept for 25p which although is showing as confirmed is flagged on their system.
the choices, I can get a 25p payout to paypal (hummmm I'm frugal not stupid) & then wait till the next reciept takes me to the limit and request it once again. Does anyone else think what kind of system do they operate if they can't over write a bug like that??

Anyway a small issue in the scheme of it!

    Have a good day.

    Bob
