Bob - that's awful news about your DH's bike. I think an old battered thing would be the best bet for leaving at the station.
Fmess - it is so annoying when things don't add up, hope you find out what has happened.
Welshkitty - good news about your grant.
Calling - well done on the walk.
TOG - how do you pick up other peoples receipts and then get a price guarantee coupon?
I know what you mean about feeling poor/badly done to. This morning I was doing the school run and 3 of DS's friends were in front and I was looking at their rucksacks, two (twins) had Animal ones and one boy had a Converse one, my DS picked out one from WH Smith which was reduced to £2.99, he is happy with it and even though I was paying he still can't overpay on anything but everybody else seems to have branded everything.
I agree in principal with Dave Ramsey except the Jones's never do seem to be broke they seem to chug along spending like there's no tomorrow.
I got DH to download the Shopitize app and the other similar ones (I don't have a smartphone) but it all seems a bit of a mystery to me if I'm honest, particularly the Shopitize one.
Not much going on here today, have a routine doctors appointment today (that lovely 3 year one:eek:), tonight I have my Avon orders to deliver to customers, it wasn't a brilliant campaign this time but I will have £21 from it plus some items I tagged onto a customers order. All the money I make from it goes into our holiday account.
Have a good day guys.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Thanks for the PAD explanation Bob. That's really sad about your OH's bike. Mine is a recycled 30-year-old lady, but I would still be gutted if she was taken. The advice I got was to get a D lock that is at least 10% the value of your bike. The one I have is a D lock by MasterLock and is a security level 10 with a lifetime guarantee. It should have been £40ish but the Uni subsidises them for £10 to reduce theft on campus - perhaps the Unis/council/someone near you offers similar? (Although they're heavy I could probably post one and it be much cheaper - depends how you feel about pulling back the curtain slightly on internet life
)
Fixed a puncture in our bike course last night and got a free repair kit and tyre levers, so it's been great for a fiver - next week is brakes.
My friend came to uni with a £600 bike and had it stolen outside a busy uni building in broad daylight - they had good quality bolt cutters and sheared straight through her lock (which wasn't a good one). She replaced the bike with a budget one from Decathlon so it's unlikely they'll go for hers again - maybe that is the best way at the station as dolly says.
Yesterday was SFD 6 but I didn't cook the chicken and had toast for teaI knew I wouldn't want to cook after the course at 9pm. Will do it tonight as I've a free evening. Was very proud and MSE as I repaired my allotment jeans last night and they look great. I'm very tall so any clothes are a struggle and costly so my jeans are made for life when I get a good fitting pair, had these at least 10 years. I've reinforced the whole seat so they should be good for a long while now :T Now that I've practised on these I will have a go at a few other pairs - I'm prone to the creases around the knees wearing away on skinny jeans, and I ripped the crotch of another pair trying to sit cross-legged in a meditation session :rotfl:
Still looking for unusual apple recipes if anyone has any ideas? Have a great day allNST September: SFD 17/20, food £62.87/£60, travel £61.55/£40, Outings £39.80/£100, Allotment £7.17/£30 Other: £42.32, Meditation ?/30.

Synonymous - I'm tall too and know exactly what you mean about clothes, if it fits and is comfortable I wear it till it falls apart, plus I usually pay quite a bit to get a good fit (arms/body length/legs) so I want my money's worth.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Afternoon! Well I'm feeling quite pleased with myself..
The fixed rate on my mortgage is due to run out so I've just worked out a new one for £112 a month less, the percentage is 2.30% less and there's no fees as its with my current provider! I've fixed it again for 3 years.
The plan is to split the extra between debt repayment and a monthly over payment on the mortgage.
My contents insurance is also up for renewal and it looks like I can get that for £4 rather £7 a month.. Not a huge saving but better than nothing!
I just need to keep motivated!I am officially debt free! Debt paid: £18,600 Current Savings: Pot 1 £300 //// Pot 2 (premium bonds) £3,800 :T:j0 -
Hi All
Syn - Thanks for the bike lock advice. OH bought one today that was about £40. Your older model sounds fine, if it works why change it? Well done on fixing your jeans.
Dolly - The Jones's may seem that way, but you only have to read some of the threads on the general DFW board at the moment to see that is highly unlikely to be the case for some people. Im not picking on you especially, as I know its come out of a discussion, but I just want to say, you are doing your son a favour by being on top of the budget and ensuring he has a functional backpack and that is all. Better that than teach him brands are important.
Carvis - Well done, it all helps!
Off for my ritual hot bath. Really need a good soak today.
Night all

Hi everyone!
Bit of a mixed day here today. Started off lovely - DH took me out for breakfast with money he had been given for his birthday, then got a nice surprise in the post - £30 of m&s vouchers that I didn't know I was entitled to for taking out insurance last month. Will put them away for Xmas pressies and treats. Did weekly shop and got some reduced school uniforms from Ald! to put away for next year.
THEN we took DHs car to get a quote for some work that needs doing. Shopped around and looks like it will cost at least £350. Trouble is, if we don't do it soon, it could destroy the whole engine. Have looked at my spreadsheet and the budget can just about take it if I pay it on the spending credit card and I should be able to pay it off by December, but things will be very tight.
Have listed some things on eBay and have some bids already so hopefully that will help.
Have also registered my business with a local wholesaler today. They said we are allowed to do personal shooing there too, so will have a proper look around next time to see what is worth stocking up on.
Budgets now look like:
Fuel - £93.08/£120
Groceries - £152.24/£200
Business - £23.44/££50
Anniversary - 0/£500 -
Evening all. Bob and Welshkitty, sorry about your spendy transport issues
Today has been spendy - hen do this weekend, so I had to buy some bits and bobs for that (food mainly - was told to bring a bottle of wine, but I don't drink wine so I've got some cider instead, which was cheaper than wine and will taste better!). Hoping tomorrow will be a NSD, and also hoping that the whole weekend will be non-spendy as everything should have been paid for already *crosses everything*!
Won't be around for most of the weekend because of said hen do, so hoping now that all turtles have lovely, turtally awesome weekendsBought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free!

A spend day today as we needed a few things. Made beef fajitas for tea - OH had wraps from the freezer but I made gf pancakes to have instead of wraps. They were yummy and saved me the £3 it would have cost to buy gf wraps in the shops.
Payday from 2nd job tomorrow so will be able to pay a bit more off the debtMortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Another NSD for me! Sneakily managed to get DH to buy the milk we needed as he's less busy than me. I can't believe it's only 10th and my bank account looks so empty, but most big spends are done for the month...
Nothing to report other than work, sleep and my kids always arguing. Not giving up

crazy cat - hope the kids stop arguing soon
welshkitty - sorry to hear about your car needing work. Hope it all gets sorted and doesn't wreck the engine!
misstara - love the sound of gf pancakes instead of wraps, thanks for the idea
bob - all this bath talk is making me jealous
Today has been another SFD :j so I'm up to 7 :j Also did all my steps and had a lovely sunny walk with the dogs this evening. I'm thinking about using my tescimos clubcard vouchers on their boost scheme this weekend in order to treat myself to either a toasted sandwich maker, as my gf bread is always the wrong size for a toastie maker, or on a blender, as I don't have one and want to try making my own smoothies and maybe some soup. Will have a think and will only do it if I can get it without spending my own money!LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)
