Any suggestions on my situation please:

I had my old contract renewed in July 2007 and kept to my old tariff to get NGN included and actually specified this when I got my upgraded handset.

Got the email at the end of August warning me of the changes. Called yesterday to talk to O2 about it and was offered the sim only deal which I rejected, cancelling my contract early with no penalty or transferring my number via a PAC code to a pay as you go SIM.

At the moment I have chosen to be sent the PAC and the new PAYG SIM.

My question is can I then port the number from PAYG to a monthly contarct with O2 or any other provider? If I can is there a time period before I can do it and how do I do it?

I am still thinking of cancelling the contract now but would lose my number.

    What would others do?

I think you have to use the PAC within 30 days or the contract resumes.

The cheapest way to keep your number is to get a free Orange PAYG sim and give Orange the pac code.
This puts your number in a safe place till you decide what to do next, ie best contract that suits you.

AFAIK Orange are the only company that will give you the PAC again for free when you have decided on what you want to do long term. Others charge £20/30 for the priveledge. Lets hope Orange dont join the cartel

So do you think it would be safest to cancel te contract totally and lose my number and then get a new contract with whichever provider I choose?

Are o2 pay monthly contract phones the only ones that aren't locked to the network?
  • Hi update to my as my previous threads

I upgraded my O2 CPW on 14 Aug on £35 Tariff on 18 month with N95. My new upgrade contract suppose to start 12 Sept. I asked for cancelation due to T&C, CPW kept on being told I have to pay £35*18 to leave. I did get a PAC code and was kept on saying that I have to pay.

I used the PAC code and today got a Final bill, which is normal need to pay fee pounds. They have not said anything about returning the N95 handset :)

I have read through the whole thread (hours!) and there doesn't seem to be many people with contracts from o2 CPW reporting success - is this because they are being awkward or have many people been successful using the template letter/their own letter? I received the text on 22/8 therefore need to contact them by 21/9 if I want to attempt to cancel - I have used the phone intermittently for 0845/0870 numbers since the start of the contract.

The potential complication is that I have a cashback deal with claims in month 4/8/12 - sending my m8 claim this week (as now have the correct bill - and will have only paid for 8 months), therefore will cancelling the contract affect this?

    Many thanks

You would not loose your number, the PAC code is the thing that lets you port your number around the networks, most charge when moving away from PAYG ,but at mo Orange doesnt.

The unlocked phones was the 2nd reason I was with o2, there may be some other network but I dont know who. 3 and Voda are locked. There are unlocking instructions at the top of this forum, especially for Nokia ones.

If I were you I would stick it out if the contract is a 12 month one as you will def loose the 12m cashback, and they may kick up over the 8m one.

You have to weigh up what you will loose/gain from cancelling and make the choice.

Wrt CPW i got my text 25th, wrote to Portal Way on 1/9. got no reply, sent recorded 1st class on 11/9, still no reply. So have emailed them via my account early today with a disconnection header to which they are supposed to reply within 24hrs. Will post what happens, no email or call yet. They seem to be hoping this will go away with the 30day bit. Shabby way to treat customers when their gripe (CPW) should be with o2 not CPW o2 customers,

  • I was offered a cancellation and balance payment so I wouldn't be out of pocket. I declined since I have a better gameplan. It's about who you get to speak with, how effective you are in arguing your case and it definitely helps if you had high 08 useage. But the initial person didn't want to know; refused point blank. Guess I have some charm, though not sure everyone would agree on here! Lol!
  • I got a text so I sent my letter to the disconnections mangager two weeks ago to cancel my CPW contract. I had no reply whatsoever, so i just called CPW and spoke to a lady who put me through to a special team dealing with these complaints, He said he would send my PAC and i have 30 days to use it, once i use it my account would be cancelled with no penalty. I took my contract out in May and hardly use 08 numbers. After reading all the problems on here I was ready to put up a fight, this was not the case, i didnt even have to mention the contract clause. Have CPW finally sorted out their attitude. 1 day later i got my PaC code text to me. I am just worried now if i will get a suprise bill. He told me there would be no penalty but i am just taking their word for it, What do u Think?

What do you mean by normal need to pay fee pounds
