Attention :O2 to charge for all 0844/0845/0870/0800 calls including old contracts

 I contacted O2 about the 0845 thing by e-mail stating that it was a breach of contract. I asked them to be able to disconnect & to my amazement they replied that I could disconnect penalty free, but that I'd have to call in to do this. When I called in they offered me option of my £35 monthly contract for £20 instead! So I took that as it'd be cheaper than PAYG.
If you haven't used 0870 etc recently, I would remind everyone that we have until September 28th to make lots of 0845 etc calls! Then call up after the 28th & cancel the contract. Then o2 cannot refuse on grounds of non use of 0870 etc.
Good luck!0 -

Please be advised that you have 30 days as from the time you receive the notification to cancel your contract. It is not 30 days as from the 28th of Sept.
People who post such info, please confirm your sources! This is potentially a very serious mistake!0 -
So what exactly happened and how did you get them to come across?
I rung them today also and they gave me the flannel about not having made any non geo calls therefore i couldnt cancel unless i paid fee.
Will need some advice folks on what to say next
Cheers Stevie
Call them again.
The first and most important thing is to be nice. Tell them that you would like to cancel due to the ngn change. If they start being funny tell them that the T&C clearly states that you can cancel-state the T&C concerned.
If they still get funny, tell them that they can not assess the extent such a change will affect you in the future. And that you took the contract with the sole belief that, whenever needed, you would be able to make ngn calls from your mobile. If they keep messing with you, tell them that the fact that they sent you the text clearly indicates that you will be affected by this change.
As a last resort, ask to speak to a manager and take the name of the advisor.
Also ask them the HO address and the name of a high ranking person. Inform them that you would be writing to head office and you will be contacting trading standards.
Lovely jobly.
But remember to be nice in the first place and to be gently persistent. Let us know what happens.0 -
Breaking news
Please be aware that the simplicity tariff can be potentially a tie-in to a longer period of time. Several people are reporting that O2 are charging the full cancellation charges (i.e remainder of contract) when cancelling the simplicity deals.
Dnt ask me how, but this has been reported by various people.

Can't comment on the Online version but the Direct/High Street version of the tariff does tie you in for the remainder of your contract. This is what I was told by Retentions.0 -

You have to be firm, but polite, let them know you will not stand to be messed around and that you intend to use the ngn in the future and there is no way they can forsee how you are going to use your phone in the future. And you have to keep escalating, don't just take the first persons word for what is going on, go to the supervisor then the manager and higher if needed. Mine stopped at supervisor level but I was quite happy to take it higher had I needed to.0 -

I was lucky to be informed of that at the time of enquiry. A lot of people havn't. Its extremely important that we are all made aware of this.
A lot of people are gonna be made upset by this. They better know about it now. WTH are O2 upto! IMO, trading standard needs to be informed! They are misleading customers.0 -

uhh...U weren't really offered anything to shout about! That is a deal anyone else can have without being tied in to a contract as u r!
I take u have been reading the 300 or so threads before this! or not!0 -
well i took out a contract in april with o2 via dialaphone. i have an 18 month contract that was £35 a month for 600 mins and 600 texts. its quite an expensive contract that i have realised i am not getting the most out of so i phoned them this morning and explained that i wasnt happy with these new charges but i also stated that i dont want to cancel i just want my monthly charge to be reduced.
the lady on the other end, laura who was very helpful told me i was using on average 43 mins a month of my minutes which is absolutely poor considering the contract i had and i was also using nearly 200 texts so she came back and said i could have 400 mins and 300 texts for £20, i said i wanted it cheaper so she went away for a few mins and came back with 200 mins and 600 texts for £15 a month.
i thought that was very good considering i have only been using 43 mins a month so i have saved myself £20 a month.
im well happy to be honest and it was so easy but now i have to contact dialaphone about their cashback that im due to claim next month and their customer services are a nightmare!!0
