Is a text an acceptable form of notification of a change in contract? Surely a letter is what should be sent out?ummm...0

^Is states in the T&C's that a text message is sufficient enough as a 30 day notice.0

Millionsaver wrote: »Hiya, Ihave been enjoying absolutely FREE international calls to Texas for about 3 months now!! Unfortunately I have received a text message from O2 which states that as of Sept 28th they will now be charging 20ppm for "special numbers beginning with 0844 & 0845". They refer me to the o2.specialnumbers site for more info which I believe also shows some other "special numbers". Funny - the same day I got that Text message I also had one of their reps ring me to offer me "discounts" to renew my membership. HOW FUNNY!! I dont currently use all of my 400 inclusive minutes. BUT, he wanted to offer me a 20% discount on my calls. I told him 20% of nothing was still nothing and he'd need to do better than that to keep my business. He was supposed to post me some information (as he could not answer ANY question I asked him!!) Still not received anything in the post but I betcha the bill is on the way!!
Happy savings!
Michelle - MillionsaverThe calls cant possibly be free unless your on a full cashback. After all you normally pay for your x-net minutes that you make the calls out of.

Guys, don't cancel just yet. Send O2 a letter of complaint, telling them that you are unhappy with the decision to charge 08 numbers. Apparently they will have meeting regarding the issue (of complaints) in the next few days. So get the letters of complaints to them so there's a chance they can reverse the decision.
Do it NOW!
PS. Remember that you have till 28th September to cancel.0 -
I've just e mailed O2 through their website saying that I am unhappy with the decision to charge for 08... numbers.
Perhaps others could do the same?0 -
Further to my saga
I had this email today
"Dear Mr ***
Thank you for your email.
O2 are making the change because until now they have not been charging
the customers for the higher cost of calls to these numbers, but as
these numbers have become increasingly popular, O2 are finally aligning
with the other networks. O2 have been the last network to comply with
these charges as the other networks already charge for calling these
numbers.
The most commonly used numbers to mobiles and standard fixed lines,
such as those beginning with 01 and 02, will not be effected by these
changes. Also calls to O2 Customer Service Teams (including The
Carphone Warehouse) and Telephone Helpline Association Numbers are among some of the exceptions to the Non Geographic Numbers charges.
All mobile networks in the UK charge for numbers with the 08 prefix and O2 and The Carphone Warehouse offer a number of services which can reduce the cost of international calls for customers who use 08 numbers to call overseas:
Discount Country – If you call the same number regularly, this service gives you a cost effective alternative to a landline from just £0.09 per minute. Discount Country costs £3.00 a month.
Country Calling Plan – If you make over two minutes of international calls a month to one country included in the Country Calling Plan then these calls can be discounted by as much as 82% for just £0.99 per
month.
TalkTalk – On the Talk2 and Talk3 plans, TalkTalk offer free calls to landlines in 36 countries worldwide, from just £10.50 per month. These
countries can be found at:

For further information on O2 International services please check these
out on the following link:

We have always stated in our customer terms and conditions that
customers will be charged for call non-geographic numbers. It is also
stated in our terms and conditions that we may change this agreement
and the charges at any time, if we increase our charges for the elements of
the service you are using or change the terms and conditions of this
agreement to your significant disadvantage (in our reasonable opinion),
we will give you 30 days notice in writing before the change takes
place.
Changes may also be found of the O2 website www.O2.co.uk and The
Carphone Warehouse website www.carphonewarehouse.com, please check
these sites regularly for updates.
As previously advised as the used of the 08 prefix is a small
percentage of your overall usage, you will not be at a significant disadvantage with the change of service. Therefore should you wish to cancel the contract we would ask that you pay a disconnection fee, which will consist of your line rental for the remainder of your contract and any outstanding charges on your account. This will be approximately
£238.98 including VAT.
As we are unable to accept disconnection requests by email please send
your request to:
Reference ****
Disconnections Management
The Carphone Warehouse
1 Portal Way
London
W3 6RS
Please include your full name and address, your mobile number and your
signature in your letter. I also recommend sending your request by
recorded delivery, as proof of postage may be required.
We will send you a letter advising you of your disconnection fee and
information on how to complete your disconnection within 21 days of the
receipt of your letter.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Your current call charges up to 27th August 2007 are: £**** excluding
VAT. You have currently used *** minutes out of your calling allowance
of *** minutes.

Customer Services for O2"
ANyway I replied back arguing again, saying that If that's your final response please let me know and then I will go to OFCOM.
YEsterday I also sent them recorded letter, so just got a phone call saying I will get a pac code with 48/72 hours and can leave without any penalities.
I took an upgrade on 14 aug N95 phone, the new mins have not started till middle of next month.
They said nothing about returning the phone

Good work. If everyone does the same, there's a chance they can do something to appease the crowd
I have just emailed them requesting the PAC code and complaining about the new charges; as I mainly use the 0845 number to call abroad I don't see the point of having a contract anylonger.
Thankfully my contract is due to expire next week!0 -
