PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I wrote to Halifax claiming mis-selling on my CC on 25th May 2010.
I got a letter back on 4th June, sorry you are unhappy with PPI, further to my investigation and as you are such a valued customer (aren't we all) "I have decided to pay you an amount which will put you back in the position you would have been had you not taken the insurance."
You will hear from our redress team in next 14 days.
Saturday morning I got a cheque for £355 (no breakdown).
Didn't expect a lot as I cancelled soon after realising that I was paying PPI but great, quick result thanks to all you guys'n'girls on this site :T
Still got various Egg, FP and Nationwide running
Keep you updated

Massive thanks to all those who post on here helped me gain the courage!0 -

Absolutely huge thank you's to martin and this site, di, Gerry and everyone else. Got a letter this morning from black horse to say that although they are not upholding my complaint as a goodwill gesture they are refunding me £1832.74 plus £301.97 interest. I feel like I have won the lottery! My luck has finally changed.
Can anyone tell me if I will get charged if I ask for an early settlement to pay off the loan that I have claimed the ppi on? As I was hopeing that they would automatically do this but they have said that they will adjust the payments on the loan. I want to ring them and ask to pay it all off. Thanks again every1 I really didn't think I would get the money back but thanks to this site my luck has changed and I will finally be able to benefit from working instead of just paying it all out on bills. Thanks guys :j0 -

OK another one for everyone.
Marks and Spencer's charge card and personal reserve both had PPI insurance taken out on them in 1995 and 1999 respectively and ran until 2007 when I cancelled them. Marks have denied miss selling and the FOS wont take it on as they were not regulated at the time. My next step is the underwriters but Allianz who I believe were the underwriters at the time have no idea which department to put me in touch with. I have written to Marks twice asking for the info and no reply. How do I get this info and how long do they have to reply to my requests? Also as I had PPI Insurance on the charge card surely selling me on the reserve would count as miss selling as I was already covered by Marks on the charge card?0 -

Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: Still awaiting decision
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Awaiting decision from letter sent directly to provider
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I originally tried to cancel my PPI insurance in 2006 (1 year into my 60 month agreement) with a view to reducing my monthly repayments. I was told at the time that I would have to take out another 60 loan to cancel the policy. After Calculating this with an HSBC staff member it transpired that doing so would mean that my repayments would increase by 20%. Needless to say I was very disheartened and told them there was no point in me cancelling the loan.
Having looked at other similar cases on this site, I sent my original letter of complaint on the 16th March 2010 to ask HSBC to honour my original cancellation request. I received an acknowledgement letter around two weeks after sending my letter. I received two further letters one in 4 weeks stating that they were looking at my case and would update me in another four weeks. I then received another letter saying that they needed a further four weeks and would provide me with a response by 12th June 2010.
Having not heard anything I contacted HSBC regulated sales complaints on 10th June to check on the progress and I was informed that my case had not yet been assigned to anyone. I was also told that PPI reclaim cases are taking up to 14 weeks to resolve.
The lady I spoke to was very helpful and said that she would assign my case to herself and I would have a decision in another 2 weeks. After briefly discussing my claim with me she did say that ‘it was right that I would have had to take out another loan to cancel the insurance’. I’m not sure if that’s a negative sign about how successful I will be with my claim or if it is HSBC ensuring that they do not admit liability at any point.
I hope this info helps for anyone else who is currently claiming from HSBC and has not had a response within the standard 8 weeks
I spoke to HSBC again this morning and they still have not began to look at my complaint. They informed me that I will have a response 'within the next 2 weeks' which will be 15 weeks since I sent my original letter.0 -

Hi there
A few of us have gone the insurer direction now, still ongoing, but the lender did provide us with the details on request of the actual insurance policy.
I would write and give them 7 days to comply and tell them otherwise you will contact the Information Commissioners office (ICO) for further advice.
https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
You have the right for the information - tell them that as well.
I am not certain on the other matter though, but I'm sure someone will know and post up.
Good luck with this, please keep us posted. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Blimey they are taking their time, I expect its because they are overloaded with these complaints.
Did they also state you can take your complaint to the FOS if you want to, as the 8 weeks have passed?
I know it maybe worth holding on until the extra time, so hopefully there will be a good result to come from this, fingers crossed.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
