    • What were you reclaiming: loan
    • Who was the provider: Mint
    • How much did you get back: 1500
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: after letter
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
Wrote to them in December and had a few letters from them telling me they were still investigating - went over their 8 weeks and had given them a set date to respond by (in my head! lol) with a proper response otherwise I was taking it further, letter came this morning offering £1500 (as a gesture of goodwill ;))

Thanks to everyone who helped - this is really going to help me out - need a car for my work and my current one is kind of on it's last legs so having that will be FAB as I can't really afford one at the moment!

  • · What were you reclaiming: Loan
    · Who was the provider: EGG
    · How much did you get back: £1,670.64
    · Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1ST Letter, response in 3 days!!

After my husband lost his job recently, I was looking into ways of getting some money while he was looking for a new job.
I have been meaning to send my letter to EGG for months but never got round to sending it. But more recent events has put things into prespective.
So I sent the letter on Monday this week, a response of letter being received was sent on the 2nd day and on the 3rd day I received a letter from EGG advising they are refunding £1,670.64.
Whoop whoop, thanks Martin and everyone’s success stories, it just shows one letter can sort all your problems out J

    What were you reclaiming: Loan
    · Who was the provider: Abbey
    · How much did you get back: £1,700
    · Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1ST Letter/

Sent 1st letter around 8th Feb, received an acknowledgement last week, got a letter yesterday say they had done their investigation and would be refunding us close to £1.700.

Now a dilema shall we use the money wisely or go to Spain, never taken our 7 year old on holiday so Spain looks likely.

Thanks everyone on this site :D

  • What were you reclaiming: PPI
Who was the provider: Barclays Bank
How much did you get back: over £1,900
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the financial ombudsman: through the financial ombudsman

I originally suspected I'd been mis-sold when I tried to claim after having an operation for a pre-existing medical condition (which I had disclosed at the time of taking out the loan and was told I'd be covered as I hadn't seen a doctor/specialist/had symptoms for the previous 12 months) which barclays refused to pay out for. The total amount they would have had to pay out would only have been about £600, this was back in December 2008.
I'd had the loan & PPI for about 14 months then.
I then went into my branch to try and cancel the PPI (which I was also told I could do, at any time during the repayment term of my loan, if I found it didn't serve it's purpose) just before Christmas 2008. Of course, the staff in branch stated the ONLY way I could cancel the PPI would be to take another loan out, which was at that time double the interest rate of my current loan, so I'd be worse off without the PPI.
I then used Martin's letter templates to write to Barclays and complain, 1st letter got a reply stating would take approx 4 weeks to look into. EXACTLY 4 to the date of this reply I received a 2nd letter stating it would take a further 4 weeks. Then I received a letter stating they were STILL looking into this complaint and if i wanted to contact the Financial Ombudsman I could, which I them promptly did.
By this time it was March 2009, I rang the FOS and went through the details with a girl who then sent out the form to complete further. Once I sent it back I got a prompt reply stating that they would be investigating this and it could take between 6-9 months in total.
So I then had to wait.........
The beginning of January 2010 I received a letter from FOS stating that they were upholding my complaint. I'D WON!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately since then Barclays have lost my paperwork for my new loan and i've just had to sign a 2nd copy of this......so i'm still waiting for my payout!!!!!!
BUT the upshot is that I TOOK ON BARCLAYS AND I WON so would recommend anyone else following Martin's excellent advice and do it for themselves.

    Who was the provider: Egg

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the financial ombudsman: 1 letter to them a week ago saying pay up as they had been fined. Letter on Friday to say they would send cheque in the post....never thought it would be quite that simple (although I will wait until cheque arrives before celebrating!)
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
