Helloooo 2 all..Finally after six months of my initial template letter, respect Martin,:money: Barclays have coughed up the PPI i paid on a loan back in 2005.
Initially they refused saying that i knew the terms and conditions of the PPI and that i should basically poke myself in the eye with a pencil

After they refused twice i sent a complaint form to the ombudsman and low and behold Barclays settled ( a lot more than i was expecting but i won't tell them if you won't:j

So if you think it's a waste of time and you're getting nowhere stick with it, it took me six months. .

live long and stick it to the man!!!!

Many thanks Martin and moneysavers, god bless us all!!!!:A

  • FIRST PLUS SUCCESS
Have successfully claimed back ppi from First Plus, as was told that this was not optional. Our loan dating back to 2004 has been put back to a position as if we had neber taken out the policy and a cheque for £8013 is on its way to us. This is the payments we have made into the policy plus interset. Additionally our laon repayments have been reduced by £190!!! We would have gone to the FOS if necessary as did contact them and they said it was something they could look into. Would encourage everyone to keep going and good luck.

From reading your Reclaim article in late February 08. First letter using your template on 3rd March to RBS who subsequently forwarded it on to Cargiant (PPI was for a car loan). Nothing ventured nothing gained I kept reminding myself as letters were going back and forth.

On 9th May I received a standard letter informing "Cargiant are still gathering information about your concern and we expect to conclue this matter within th next 21 days.....if you are not satified with our response and the time it has taken to deal with your concerns you are eligible to refe your concern to the FOS"

FOS complaint fom completed and posted on 12th May, prepared to wait for justice. Today 13th May Cargiant called me on my mobile and informed that they had upheld my complaint and would be sending me a cheque through the post.

It works :D thank you MoneySavingExpert

After reading Martins advice on this site, I decided to approach one of many loan companies First Plus I took out a 16000pound loan in Jan 2005 through Loans.co.uk and had a single premium PPI included on the loan. I felt at the time the salesperson was very pushy and was worried that the loan would not be put through if the protection was not purchased.

I paid the loan off in 2006 in full. I have written to First plus who fobbed me off to Loans.co.uk who have sent me a letter saying this is their final decision and they feel I was not mislead I was sent all the info and had a 30 day cooling off period. They quote they will not deal with me again unless through FSO.

I wrote back today asking for details of the conversation they have said they have on my file for Dec 04. I have also wrote to First Plus asking for a redemption statement as loans.co.uk say I may be entitled to a refund of the premiums paid.

Has anyone had the same problems or can someone point me in the right direction?

  • Double PPI success

I have now been successful with two PPI complaints. My first involved HSBC. Some years ago I set up a instant loan account which allowed me to draw up to a £1000, because it was only for emergencies it was not always in the red so the PPI payment was never regular, I failed to notice it because was only for £3.45 and was only noticed because I decided last year to reconcile my current account for finished direct debits that were still being paid. I contacted HSBC stating I believed that I was mis-sold this policy. After a few weeks they wrote back stating that they always make the customer aware that they are paying for a PPI and they do not mis-sell PPI’s. I wrote to them again asking them for a signed copy of the PPI agreement so I could put the matter to bed or I would be contacting the ombudsman, HSBC replied back saying that because this PPI was over six years old they had lost the agreement but as far as they was concerned the matter was closed. I then contacted the ombudsman and within three weeks of this another letter arrived from HSBC stating they were crediting my account with the sum of £362 as final settlement to my complaint. This broke down, was £300 for PPI payments £62 in lost interest.

My second complaint involved an internet company called needaloan.com. In 2006 I needed a loan for £25000 to pay up some debts. Need a Loan set up the finance for me though a company called Nemo, I made it clear that although the loan was for 25 years I expected to pay it back within the year. I was sent the finance agreement which my wife and I duly signed, but we made the mistake of signing the two boxes that were at the bottom of the agreement, it wasn’t until I was ready to clear the loan ten months later that I realised I had paid £5000 pounds for a PPI I didn’t want. I contacted Need a Loan about this but was told I signed the agreement so it was binding, it wasn’t until I read matins article on PPI’s that I decided to challenge Need a loan for a refund. I am pleased to say that this week after a drawn out negotiation which started with them offering me £3000, they finally agreed to pay me £5500 plus £533 that I got for surrendering the policy. This broke down, was £5339 for the policy and interest incurred over the 10months of the loan leaving me with a massive £694 interest.
If it wasn’t for Martins PPI article I wouldn’t have considered challenging the bank and finance company.

Martin you’re my saviour! Thank you.
  • Hi All,

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to Martin Lewis for the best day yesterday! I discovered the article about PPI on my personal loan with HSBC and I found that the cost of their product was about £3000 on top of my loan - which I didn't really pay attention to when I signed all the paperwork in April '07.

So after obtaining a quote from AntInsurance I walked into HSBC yesterday lunch time and said "Sorry guys, I've found a cheaper PPI product elsewhere and I want to remove your PPI on my loan but keep the loan in place..." and they did it there and then. 30 minutes of my lunch time to save bucket-loads of money.

Not only did they refund the PPI I've already paid for the last 10 months (£400!!) but it has reduced the loan value by about £2.5k and the monthly repayments have dropped by £40 effective from next month. AntInsurance have insured 75% of my income in case of accident, sickness and unemployment for £10.56 per month..... HSBC's cover costed £40 per month and only protected the loan repayment value - SO IT PAYS TO SHOP AROUND!!!

Martin Lewis you are a LEGEND - many thanks indeed!
  • I recived money back from my 2nd A&L PPI Loan around £1800. Now I have got information regarding my 1st loan with them before I refinanced it using the 2nd loan.

Now whats my chances of claiming on the 1st loan bearing in mind they already paid out on the 2nd loan?

Is it worth sending the letter off and has anyone been in this situation for any advice
  • Also i had barclays loans which finished more than 6 years ago any chance of getting barclays to give me information on these? I already requested but they sent my my fathers details, could I complain about this data protection and all that? They also have my fathers barclaycard prodcuts on my barclays account its a mess I have complained about this last time I heard they was going to get these deleted from my bank account. But still not heard anything nor recieved any information on any of my loans
