Helloooo 2 all..Finally after six months of my initial template letter, respect Martin,:money: Barclays have coughed up the PPI i paid on a loan back in 2005.
Initially they refused saying that i knew the terms and conditions of the PPI and that i should basically poke myself in the eye with a pencil

After they refused twice i sent a complaint form to the ombudsman and low and behold Barclays settled ( a lot more than i was expecting but i won't tell them if you won't:j

So if you think it's a waste of time and you're getting nowhere stick with it, it took me six months. .

live long and stick it to the man!!!!

Many thanks Martin and moneysavers, god bless us all!!!!:A
    Baffaroony x x x

Well Done. Did they settle before FOS made them or did they do it of their own accord?

Tell them you will pay them when they pay up! :rotfl: you need to check whether you are entitled to this info for free, I read something about the freedom of info regarding your account. I havent had a reply to my second letter yet, fingers crossed

I am also waiting for another 5 loan companies to respond, I have a very colourful history with regards to loans in the past

Several years ago I applied to Freedom Finance for a loan.
During a phone call they advised me loan could only proceed if I took £2400 ppi which I did not need or want.
After seeing Martins programme I sent a letter to reclaim ppi only to be told by Freedom Finance that they only processed the loan application for Bespoke Finance who are based in Gibraltor.
This was news to me as Bespoke had never ben mentioned before but I wrote to them to reclaim and was refused.Wrote again and again was refused.
Contacted FSO who have now advised me that as Bespoke Finance have never been a member of the General Insurance Standards Council my complaint was not one they could consider.
So be sure you know who your loan is actually with and whether they are members of the GISC.

Look on the other thread reclaiming PPi there is someone called Marshallka in your position who is getting some great advice on this particular subject from mcolak, he says they are still regulated by UK law even though they are based in Gibraltar, I would read all M's posts and find out more..... they still have to answer ....dont give up!!:money:

I know m colak says they are still regulated by uk law but what law can we have them on. Apparently i spoke to the fos yesterday with regard to the ppi and the person i spoke to said that there was really nothing i could do about mine as it was in the year 2000 and bespoke were not any member of anything. I WILL find something i can have them on. Surely they should of been in some kind of organisation to sell insurance. Its causing me trauma now and if anyone can help then please reply. I have had a reply and final response from Bespoke (Freedom passed it to them) and they say "tough" virtually.

To operate in the UK they still have to meet regulatory requirements to operate in the UK and the laws they are governed are UK ones.

I have just called Freedom Finance and spoken to the compliance team as today i have received a letter from them stating that they were dismissing my claim and letting Bespoke Finance deal with it. (Bespoke have already given their final response) She said that their insurance sales people did not have to have any training at all in that all the paperwork was sent out and nothing was discussed by them to us. She actually said that. I then asked her to repeat what she had said and she then said that nothing was ever explained to us only by documents sent out. I asked for the name of the person that actually sold us the insurance and she said they no longer worked for them. I then was told that Firstplus were happy with the sales people and that was who they answered to (she said there was no law and that anyone can sell inurance). I then told her to repeat what she had said again for purpose of the tape (i told her i was taping the phone call as i needed to listen again to what was said) and she said that i was not allowed to tape a conversation without her permission. I was not really taping but she annoyed me so much with her cocky attitude. She then said that she would not talk or repeat anything as i had said what i had and i asked her why if what she was saying was true. She then said she would terminate that phone call after i said to her that she had dropped herself right in it.

Where do i stand now. What is my next step here. Loan in 2000 through firstplus and using brokers Freedom Finance and then they say they were working for Bespoke Finance in Gibraltar. I am losing sleep over this now.
  • Dear Martin many many thanks to you for your ppi reclaiming templates and how to use them. I have just received conformation from BOS/HALIFAX a repayment of £1800 pounds.
