What were you reclaiming: PPI on Personal Loan
Who was the provider: Northern Rock
How much did you get back: Just over £1000
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale: After seeing Martins comments on his program It Pays To Watch I thought that it was worth a shot trying to claim back PPI. After reading Martins template, I wasn't sure if I would be able to get anything back as only a few of the points mentioned applied in this instance, but I sent the letter anyway.

After about a week I got a letter with a kind of questionaire asking me about my account and to fill in all my details again! I sent that back within the 14 days they said and then waited.

About 6 weeks later I had a letter to say that they agreed I had been misold on the policy and they would return all payments to due, plus 8% :j:T:rotfl:I had to sign a form that said I was happy with this and that this ended the case. I was a little worried at doing this but signed away. They said that they would cancel my old loan, and setup a new one with the same interest rate, but without the PPI. So double bonus - money back now and saving money on the rest of the loan!

About another month later the money showed in my account! Thanks Northern Rock, to the other forum members here who gave useful information, and most of to Martin for the idea - your a legend :money::T:rotfl:

    • What were you reclaiming: ppi
    • Who was the provider: Alliance & Leicester
    • How much did you get back: £314.23
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
    • I tried the templates three times, going down the route of a pushy advisor and got the knockback three times. However, on their third reply I had asked them to specify that this was their final response so I could contact the FOS. On this occasion they referred to me taking the loan out by phone when in fact I sat in their branch and signed the forms in front of their advisor. On that basis I argued that if they couldn't even get that right, how could they possibly prove anything else? And today I got a letter offering me my ppi refunded in full.
    • Just the Nationwide and the dreaded First Plus to crack now - both already with the FOS.
    • But to everyone out there who is on the verge of giving up, keep going. My correspondence with A&L started in November 2007 so it has taken 6 months but got the result in the end!:T

    Hi,

Can anyone help - I recently arranged a personal loan with Alliance & Leicester, i filled an online form in but had to call them to finish the application, i stated on the online form that i did not want PPI, but when i called i feel they used extreme pressure and selling tactics to force me to accept the policy, she basically implied that i would not get the loan if i did not agree to PPI. I was hoping that like other insurances you have a 14 day cooling off period in which to cancel, can anyone tell me if this is correct and whether if i cancel it they will then not agree to lend to me.

    Thanks

    • What were you reclaiming: PPI
    • Who was the provider: Egg
    • How much did you get back: 2480
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Martin's first letter
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
After reading all the information on here I sent the first letter to Egg, stating that I felt the PPI was missold, as my husband had been informed that he had to have it in order for his application to be successful. I also stated that he hadn't been informed of all the required information - ie pre-existing medical conditions. I had to keep chasing them but at the end of 8 wks he got a letter yesterday stating they couldn't find a copy of the phone call (surprise!) and were refunding 2480 as a "gesture of goodwill"! This is 200 more than we asked for! Thanks so much Martin - you are an absolute star!

Hi all. I have been reclaiming for about 18 months. I started off with bank charges and once i successfully reclaimed these I moved on to PPI.

I have so far been successful with Marbles Credit Card, First Direct Credit Card and GE Capitol car finance. I am also currently going ahead with Alliance and Leicester Credit Card and First Direct Loan both of which are at the Court stage.

There doesn't seem to be any more of a structure to how they choose to refund than there is to how they choose to refund bank charges.
I received a refund of £213.02 from my marbles cc after i send my letter threatening them with court action. GE money (£562.34) and First Direct (£747.83) cc's both waited until i had actually started a small claim online but both settled even after entering a defence stating they would fight.

I have found that as long as you stick to your guns and don't allow them to intimidate you, they will back down. The only downside to this is waiting for the relevant timescales to elapse, but then i hate waiting for anything.

    Good luck to all.

I have just waited a whole year for Cahoot to return the PPI that was wrongly taken from me... I took out a flexible loan with Cahoot nearly six years ago, and did some homeowrk before I took out the loan. I called the bank first to ask about PPI, and was told to take it out as it would be beneficial to my application and just to sign the paperwork when the forms came through..of course I hoping that I was bring given the correct information..but last year after watching the God they call Martin Lewis, I felt something wasnt right, so I cancelled the PPI straight away, no problems in cancelling the policy and the guy I spoke to said I wasnt compelled to take it in the first place.. so onwards and upwards... I called , emailed ,sent letters and got a no chance response from them and it was basically my fault as it was an online application so how could they have given me the wrong information and it was too late to do anything as I had 30 days to cool off...so i went through the FOS and explained everything to them ..gave them copies of all the letters to and from the bank, and they took over the case... from there onwards i have been patient and kept abreast of things ..albeit slow but i am also grateful to them for realising I had been mis sold a policy I neither needed or required... I didnt pester the FOS, I just sat back .. low and behold the FOS came back and said they believed I had been mis sold the policy and the bank had also been evasive in giving me details about the policy... happy days just got £1400.00 .. am very happy with that result and it just goes to show a little patience pays off as the FOS are mowed under with claims.... next one am retrying with GE Money then my credit card... one victory makes you want another and another ....

Hi all, we've been fighting with Yorkshire bank since August 2007 for my partner to get his PPI back & finally we did it! ;-)
(It was a very similar situation with his bank charges as it took us 9 months to get them back!)
Anyway they have just refunded all his PPI charges (£1140.25 for 3 loan agreements) & they have even given him interest on the payments he made for PPI (interest totalled £600.08) & they have also refunded him for statutory interest (£516.87) so he got back a grand total of £2257.20!!!
We are still in shock (esp as they would not pay him any statutory interest for his bank charges).

I have noticed that there are not many Yorkshire bank success stories on here, so thought it might help drive people on with YB; a word of advice, ring them A LOT! We'd stll be waiting now if I hadn't hounded them towards the end.

If it helps their PPI departments details are:
    Tel: 0113 231 5015 or 0113 288 2915 (we got further with 2nd tel no)
    Address:
