I am having the same problem with Lloyds, but they are Business Loans, same priniciple tho. Was not told PPI was optional, as the Manager implied it was necessary for us to be able to get the loan. He filled out all the forms, didnt even tell us what we were covered for. PPI was front loaded too
Final Decision given by Lloyds on all loans, so now with the Ombudsmen.
So dont give up, did your reply state it was there Final Decision, if so now go to the Ombudsmen, template on this site, and send all copies of letters. Might take some time tho as they are so busy......wonder why.
    Keep fighting..........

Does this mean if the letter does not state it is their final decision it is worth negotiating further? (see previous post for details on ongoing claim).

Yes it is, the ombudsmen will not look at it unless the company has given there Final Decision. So persue futher.

I got a call from Capital One last week to tell they were sending me a cheque for £190.91 on 2 credit card accounts I had with them.
I had a third card with them but they say I can't claim anything back from that one one because I ticked a box to say I was working, this was 1999 and it's possible I was working,I was 60 at the time so not sure what the rules said ? But £190.91 is better than nothing !
I have another claim with the Ombudsman against Barclaycard with a similar thing where I was a couple of months off 65 and they included PPI knowing this fact. Their argument is I should have checked this at the time but my argument is so should they have done as well !

I wrote to LLoyds TSB to reclaim my PPI and just had a reply.I stated that i was not informed i could cancel my Loan Protection Policy. LLoyds have replied that I purchased my loan on the 25th February 2003 and prior to 31st March 2003 Lloyds TSBs loan protection did not have a cooling off period. can this be correct????????
    • What were you reclaiming: Payment protection insurance
    • Who was the provider: Lloyds TSB
    • How much did you get back: £2,598.98+£708.84 interest =£3,307.82
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Financial Ombudsmen
Using the templates on this website I sent 2 letters to lloyds tsb, the first sent in November 2007. Each letter i sent received the reply that because I had signed an agreement they do not believe I was missold the policy. I was a student nurse when I took out the original loan in 2006 and voiced my concerns at the time that I would not be covered for the unemployment componant of the loan as I was a student. I tryed to cancel the policy but was fobbed off. I didn't pursue it as I was young and naive at the time! I then complained to the ombudsman and received a letter from lloyds tsb today making me an offer of the premium paid plus interest. The letter said they had been informed by the financial ombudsmen of my complaint and as a 'goodwill offer' they would refund what I had paid.

My advice is DONT GIVE UP. The ombudsmen took 4 months to sort my claim but the result was worth the wait. as for lloyds tsb....Goodwill gesture my a*se, you know I was right!
  • Hi Guys,

I'm glad so many of you are winning, just wanted to let you know about my miserable failure.
I tried to claim back my PPI on a secured loan with GE Money which was a lump sum at the start of the loan.
Followed the guidance and used the template letters and didn't even get an acknowledgement from GE.
So I then wrote to the ombudsman only to receive a letter stating that they couldn't help me as I took out my loan on the 14th October 2004 and GE Money didn't sign up to the regulations until the 30th October 2004. So I missed out by 2 weeks.
    I'm gutted.
Will keep my fingers crossed for the rest of you
    best wishes
    xxx

What were you reclaiming: Car Finance
Who was the provider: Welcome Finance
How much did you get back: Rebate onto current finance of £1714.77, but have paid £893.10 over the months since taking the finance out
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Went to FO.
And then write your brief reclaim tale: I'll be honest it wasn't straight forward. Wrote my first letter to Welcome and they tried to call to discuss the matter. I wrote back with a copy of my original complaint stating that I wanted all correspondence in writing. Heard nothing and after the first time period was up I contacted the FO, they then contacted Welcome on my behalf. I then received a letter from Welcome saying that they were looking at my complaint and that I would have their final response within 8 weeks. Yet again I heard nothing so wrote back to the FO, who pursued the complaint again. Came in today to a letter from Welcome Finance stating that they did not agree with my complaint but as a gesture of goodwill they would refund all of the PPI plus interest, excellent I'm thinking to myself. Then in the next paragraph they state that they have rebated this against my account?!? I don't mind them rebating the amount of the future payments against my account, but I'm not happy that they are doing this with money I have paid out already, can I contact them and ask for a refund to be paid into my bank account?

I've just edited this as I have just realised that my PPI may have been front loaded, which means that I am actually owed the full amount. Just shows how naive I have been thinking that part of my monthly premium is going towards this insurance. In the words of the great Homer Simpson...Doh!
