Hi I wonder if anyone can help - I am currently awaiting the decision of the ombudsman regarding PPI on a Nat West Credit card. I am claiming for my friend who has had the card and unknown to them paying PPI for nearly 25yrs. The complaint has been very slow and was originally submitted in March 2008 to the financial ombudsman (Nat West in Dec 2007) Nat West have offered two amounts over this time £1,500 and £1,700. My calculations for the last 6 yrs alone come to £2,300 and if you multiply this by the 25yrs he has been paying PPI, i am looking at a large amount. Does anyone know if you can go back further than the 6yrs? The FO has sent a letter today stating that Nat West will only pay out for the last 6yrs and have included a settlement form with no set amount only ' i accept the offer from the Nat West oulined in the letter dated 19th November' - do i accept this but state on the form the amount i am settling for? or do i hold out for the FO? The FO have stated 'As yet we may not have considered your clients complaint. If you decide not to accept the offer and we consider its merits your client should be aware that ultimately an ombudsman may award a higher or lower amount or make no award at all depending on the outcome of the investigation'
Is this Nat West offering us a last ditch attempt? Or should i hold out and wait for the FO to complete their investigation? Will the FO say that we can only go back 6yrs anyway??
I need to let them know in 7 days.
Please can anyone offer some advice.0 -

Hi there
wishing you luck.;)
With one of mine - Credit Card ppi, through the FOS I was successful from a 2001 case, but many on here have even been successful as from the 1990's, so hopefully if the bank still holds all your info, you may be also lucky to receive your ppi going back even further than 6 years or more.
Me personally would leave the FOS to this, but it is entirely up to you hun.
Ring the FOS about this on Monday, as you've not a lot of time here, good luck, please let us know how you get on, cheers. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

This sounds to me like they are just trying to pass the buck.
Should i continue my claim against ge money or start a new claim against loans for you. any help would be appreciated.
GE money aslo said this was there final response, do you think they are trying to stop me continuing i don't want to give up on this has the ppi amounts to 12,000
Keep up the good work, Nigel.
I'm a little further behind you with my claim with GE. Sadly mine was taken out about 2 months before they became regulated so I cant easily go to the FOS either.
Good luck and keep us posted!0 -

Is your only complaint point that they didn't know they were paying for PPI for 25 years? That seems pretty unlikely to me unless they rarely had an outstanding balance on the card so it wouldn't show up on the statement.
Have natwest offered the money as a goodwill gesture or have they admitted fault?0 -
Yes my friend said that they thought they had to sign up for it in the first place otherwise they wouldnt get the credit card and didnt know it was a choice. The offer is 'goodwill' by Nat West but no specific amount. I cant believe the FOS have had this complaint for sooooo long - they said they have a backlog!
I might hold out then if other people have had claims going back to the 1990's.
When i ring the FOS they just say they havent allocated the complaint to a team leader and that i will just have to wait.
Ohhhhh i dont know what to do for the best - bet its a ploy they use to get people to settle - what with Christmas coming up and all.0 -

Hi Lorraine - I succesfully claimed back on a cc from the 80's (1987 or 1988 - I would need to check) so keep going with this. The reason I stated was that I thought it was something you needed to have if you had a cc & it was never explained to me that it was optional & my job covered me being off sick.
Hope this helps you feel a bit more positive0 -
Hi all.
Some success to report with Barclays on a Barclayloan PPI claim.
On July 10th this year, having spent MONTHS following the fortunes of everyone on here, I finally sent the first template letter (amended) to my local branch office, requesting repayment of PPI because of inadequate advice regarding the PPi, the fact that it was a one off up front premium, and that although I declared a pre-existing condition to the saleswoman, she advised me to take the PPI anyway.
When I subsequently claimed (in 2006) due to surgery relating to the condition, I didn't even receive a reply from the Insurers.
I also MENTIONED in the letter that there was a previous loan, (which the current loan repaid), which was also possibly mis-sold.
On Sept. 4th, they wrote back to me, asking for more time to investigate the complaint, but stating that they would reply by the 5th October.
Not having had a reply by the 12th October, I rang them, to be told that my complaint was in a queue, and they did not know when it would be dealt with.
I rang again on the 2nd of October,to be told that I hadn't returned their questionnaire (Which I never received, and I suspect had never been sent), and got a little bit shirty with them on the phone. I then recieved a questionnaire the following day which was duly returned.
Now the good bits.
To my surprise, on the 6th November, I recieved a letter, whilst not admitting any mis-selling, saw Barclays repay the PPi on the PREVIOUS loan, (Paid off in April 2004), and after taking a premium refund I received at that point into account, Barclays deposited £822 to my current account including 8% interest.
I then telephoned them to enquire about the CURRENT loan PPI, to be told that it was still being looked into.
Lo and behold, last Friday, I got a letter in the same format as the previous one, again not admitting any liability, but nevertheless, offering to re-structure the remainder of the loan at the same rate of interest, but without PPI (and without any PPI quotient included), and promising to put me back into the position in which I would have been had I not taken out the policy, and that they will pay into my Current account 'the original PPI premium, and the interest charged on the premium, as well as the statutory 8% interest in line with FOS guidelines', which should mean a payment of AT LEAST £3,900.
I'll post again when I have the actual figure from the Bank.
So THANK YOU to Martin and all of you great folks on here for giving me the courage to get on with it, and hopefully, it's and indication to those still waiting that Barclays, at least, seem to be starting to deal with complaints a little quicker now than in the past.0 -
