PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I used the template letters from this site to send to Barclaycard. My husband and I had had a Barclaycard Visa and Mastercard since 1995, and only realised we were paying ppi from reading Martin's Money tips. We couldn't find any original application forms but neither could Barclaycard! We took it as far as the Financial Ombudsman, but had no idea how much we had paid over the years. Barclaycard suddenly agreed that we had been missold, and first made a payment into our Barclaycard account for about £450 including a straight 8% interest. I asked for a breakdown of how this was made up as I said I should have been paid compound 8% per year on the the balance so I knew it was wrong. We were fobbed off for ages, they would not give us any details, so we kept phoning and pestering and suddenly got a letter saying they were sorry they had made a mistake in the calculation and as they didn't know how much ppi we had paid in the early days, they had now calculated it as as an average of what we had paid over recent years. The good part was that they then took that total figure of assumed ppi paid as if it was paid back in 1995 and added 8% per year, so we ended up with a payment from them of £2000. Success!! Don't let them fob you off, make sure you agree with how they have worked it out! I have seen from other Barclaycard forum messages that this is not an isolated case! Just waiting for an ombudsman decision on my Nationwide loan now! Thankyou Martin :beer:0

Hi everyone
After more advise again (sorry)
My OH had a CC with Bank of Scotland which was then taken over by MBNA with PPI. Do I just send the letter to MBNA or would I need two seperate letters to both parties.
Hope i've explained this correctly.
Many thanks

Hi there.;)
Ask as much you want to hun
If the Bank of Scotland are still active, in my opinion I would write to them, however due to them being passed on to MBNA, they may come back and tell you to write to MBNA, so you could just write to both if you want to and see what they come back with.
There is no harm in doing that.;)
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Success....
I have been writing to three Barclaycard accounts held by my wife with the intention of getting the PPI back on all, had to sent a couple of reminders with the threat of sending the claim to the Financial Ombudsment but they came back a couple of days ago with an offer for full settlement of £5931 which includes £2600 interest so well chuffed!!:T
Keep going even if they send negative responses, as mentioned on this forum they will try to grind you down first but if you keep at them you have more chance of success!
Thanks for all the advice from this forum.

What were you reclaiming: Credit Card PPI (online application)
Who was the provider: EGG
How much did you get back: 2500
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: FOS
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
I applied for my EGG Credit Card online
I wrote to Egg requesting repayment of my PPI, they responded with as you applied online you ticked the box etc.
So I wrote back to Egg saying please provide evidence of this ticked box.
Egg sent back a copy of the screen print of my online application, which showed my name, address, bank details, employment etc. But what it did not show was anything to do with PPI. That is until you look further down, at the bottom of the screen print was an ‘for internal use only’ type section which they obviously uses to mark your credit scoring, credit limit etc. In this section there was a text box stating Payment Protection amongst other things.
So I wrote back to Egg saying that an internal manually edited text box is not proof that I ticked the box.
Egg response was their usual standard put off reply, so I went to the Ombudsman who I eventually heard back from saying that Egg have agreed to repay my PPI !!!!
How long was your claim with the FOS? I am in exactly the same situation as you and my claim started back in March!0 -
I sent my first letter a bit back to HSBC, had two letters since saying they are busy with complaints at the moment and they will respond to me soon. Got a phone call from the local branch today asking me to go in to discuss it. Anyone else had this?
SUCCESS!
Got a letter today stating that whilst they do not accept any liability and they do not accept my allegations they are willing to refund all the payments plus 8% interest totalling £721.10! Absolutely thrilled!
Have to go into the branch to sign the paperwork to restructure my loan without the insurance and I have to send a form back saying that I accept the offer!
Thanks to everyone on here for the advice :T0 -
