On the 15 June I sent a letter to Egg to reclaim my PPi
after 3 letters from egg stating they were looking into my claim
the 8 weeks where up i rung them to see when a final decision would be made their employee said that it would take a further 7-10 days
after the 7-10 days were up i again rung them and was told by the same employee that no time frame could be given but was assured that they were still looking into it,
my answer to this was that i believed that their stalling was a way of obstructing the financial Ombudsman and that i would put this in writing to Egg and of the 1st of Sept I would take my claim to the financial Ombudsman with no further discussion with Egg
on the 2nd Sept I received
    £8046.36
    all this thanks to MSE

    hello all,

just a quick very overdue update.

Halicrap after paying out on one policy and refusing the other 2 (that were worth more) have just refunded me on one of the othr policies. A complaint is in with FOS but I dont know if they have contacted them, anyway, as all policies were bound by same t&c;s im hoping the 3rd one will be refunded soon, fingers crossed.

if you keep on at them eventually they realise they have to play fair
Please be nice to all moneysavers!

    Hi

Just want to say "if you haven't heard me already":j. MY MONEY WENT INTO THE BANK TODAY. I'm Very happy.

Thank you to all on here, for your support, words of advice, and just good old fashioned conversation. (if you can call it that on the net).

Anyway, if anybody gets told that they can't get back what's owed, due to their loan with Blackhorse, being pre 2005, then take no notice and go for it. YOU CAN WIN.

    WHOOPIE.

    Kind regards

  • 3 success stories and 2 remaining problems :

1 : Sucesss - HSBC : Over 14K PPI refunded, completely paying off the loan and giving me £1200 to spend !

2 : Success - Lombard : Over 7500 PPI repaid, paying off the outstanding loan

    3 : Success : Direct Line : £1500 PPI refunded.

4 : Still banging my head against the wall with a secured loan from First National (now GE Capital). As they were not FOS members, they are refusing to even consider a reclaim for over £10K. The FLA, as we all know, are useless. I have no idea where to go with this one now.

4 : Co-op. My wife originally reclaimed about £1200 last year, got the usual "no chance" letter and she gave up at this first hurdle. With new evidence, we have now gone back to them but they have said they will not look into it as we did not go to the FOS within 6 months. We wrote to the FOS, who have said the same despite me questioning whether, if a banking organisation can successfuly put you off once, does this mean you can never make another complaint against them ? The FOS have not yet sent through details to the co-op and have said they will if we want them to, but that co-op are within their rights not to have to look into it ! So much for having 6 years to reclaim - it seems that if they successfully put you off once, they need worry no more !

Despite what they say about the FOS, ring the FOS anyway, and ask them, some on here have had their cases resubmitted, who have been in the same situation as yourself, no harm in trying, good luck.

It's so annoying when this happens, you could actually try by starting this all again, by writing to the bank, telling them your not happy and do not feel you were treated fairly here, and you still hold them responsible, you can also tell them if this occurs to you that due to personal reasons you could not go further at this time.

Or write to the FOS if for personal reasons why you did not continue within that timescale of 6 months, ask them to consider, as you have well been out of pocket due to this matter.
Give them as many details as you can to ask them to reconsider looking into this matter.

Sometimes it works, good luck with this and please keep us posted.;)

  • I took a loan out with First Plus 5 years ago and took out the insurance premium at the same time. Thought no more of it till I read Martin's newletter, thinking it was the right thing to have done at the time. Settled the loan early, but upon investigating the loan found I had paid £8k for the insurance, added to the loan at the time of taking out.

Followed the process on this site by sending template letter 1. First Plus sent a very long winded reply stating my claim was not valid and they would not be repaying - basically they felt they had keep me fully informed during the whole process.

Sent template letter 2 and then when no reply received sent a complaint (template 3) to the Financial Ombudsmen. Ombudsmen wrote to First Plus and on the 8 week deadline day received an offer of a full refund - £8k plus, as a gesture of goodwill - with no acceptance of liability!

Great result and all in less than 2 months - their gesture of goodwill is good enough for me! Advice is clear - follow the process, and don't be put off by their vigorous denial of liability. Would appear that once the Ombudsmen is involved, the are keen to settle!

Thanks Martin - would never have pursued without your advice.
