  • Hello i hope you are all well this not so sunny Saturday!!
I am after some advise about Barclays CC again- I wrote to them in july for me and my husband and we sent back out questionaires on the day they were sent to us, its now been 7 weeks from when we first wrote to them and i am wondering how much longer to give them (i know i said 8 weeks in the first letter) and what course of action do i take next?
I am not claiming for a lot- but it will all help towards my new car!!

    Hi there

Give them another week, if you hear nothing then contact the FOS, as you should be entitled to move on to them by then, good luck and please keep us posted.;)

    Hi,

Barclaycard said they would cough up £69 as a good will gesture but it would be taken off of my balance with them.

I responded by saying that as I was made Bankrupt in April 2008 and discharged in April 2009 that I would like a cheque as there would be no balance.

I received a letter this morning saying that they can't send me a cheque and that the £69 has been taken off of my balance.

What shall I do now? Send them another letter with my Bankruptcy & Discharge Notification asking for a cheque?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi, I think you will find that if the refund is for an amount before your bankruptcy then they can use it toward the balance that they had to write off. If after then you should receive it. With bankruptcy you get your debts cleared is that not enough, you can start again with a clean sheet!
  • I need some advice with this possible ppi claim.
I had a first plus loan
    Missed sold because self-employed.

    Loan Amount £75,000
    ppi £14,947.50
    Total Loan £89947.50

    Monthly interest 0.7930%

    APR 9.9%
    Number of monthly repayments 180

    Monthly Payment £940.12

The loan was taken out 29/03/2004

36 payments of 940.12 were paid

The loan was paid off May 2007 to the cost of £87,322.13

I have contacted some companies about reclaiming the ppi and have been quoted 22 to 25% back end fee of a possible £20,000 to £23,000 which includes 8% interest.

I have mentioned to them about claiming this myself and the response was “I could claim the £14,947.50 but because the amount is high and I have no legal backup they would put me to the bottom of file and I would not get 8% interest”

    Can I do this myself?

Hey Andy, was it single premium ppi? If so I would suggest doing it yourself as I have recently received a letter from them regarding my single prmium ppi and they offered me a full refund. It won't hurt to send the template letter first.

Back in 2005 I took out a loan with Citifinacial. I was told that unless I bought the PPI the loan would have not been agreed, on those terms I signed the loan agreement. In December 2007 we paid off the loan, and the insurance balance was not deducted from the final balance. After reading the comments on this forum I was inspired to claim for two loans and three credit cards PPI.

I sent a letter to Citifinancial on the 13th August 2009 claiming £1700.00, and this morning I received a letter from them including a cheque of £1318.00, but the letter stated that they desagreed with the complaint that the PPI had been mis-sold to me and that they would offer this amount as goodwill gesture. I am over the moon about this I didn't know this money was owed to me and it is great to receive a cheque through the post, although it did not include the full amount I claimed for, the reply was so quick, it took 3 weeks.

Freedom Finance wrote back to inform me that they are investigating my complaint.

Citicard refused my claim and said that the matter was closed, but to my surprise the account number on their reply letter was not mine and the content of their letter did not reflect to my complaint. I have posted another letter with copies of statements, my previous letter and a letter that I had received recently from them informing me about the policy and that if I had any queries I should contact them.

Another claim was with Capital One. I received a reply from them this morning stating that credit card applications over the phone are recorded and none of their representatives forces customers to take on the PPI and therefore they refuse to accepct my complaint, I am going to write a second letter as I cannot recall the application over the telephone.

For all my claims I used the template letters on this website and customized to my situation, the information and advise on this site has been great, it has been easy to follow and very inspiring.

So far one out of four claims have been succeful and I received a refund. I am over the moon, I just want to say thank you very much to this site and to Martin. You all have inspired me and I can see it can work.

A big thanks to all of you and I will keep you posted on how it goes with my other claims.

  • Hello -

I took a £15k loan from Paragon almost 2 years ago including a PPI of £19p/m. After sending them the first letter template, I got an offer of £1k to "give-up" my complaint.

Since I expended around ~£450 worth of premiums the £1k offer was sufficient so I have accepted.

    Thanks Martin and All.
  • Reclaimed PPI on a loan from M&S Money. I wrote one letter, following Martin's template, stating that I was told that I had to take out the insurance or they wouldn't consider the loan. I requested full re-imbursement of the loan plus 8% interest. I received an immediate reply stating that they would investigate my complaint. Approx 4 weeks later I have just received a letter stating that whilst they do not agree that I was mis-sold the policy, in this instance they are willing to offer an ex gratia payment of the full cost of the premium plus interest! Result! I should receive £3100 within the next 2 weeks! Thanks Martin, you're a star!:T
