• had been paying monthly PPI premiums from 1998 until Nov 2006. When I was looking for a secured loan in 2006, to consolidate my debts, I asked them to cancel the PPI on a number of occaisions but they suggested I should keep it in place as it may jeopardise my new loan application. They also advised me to take the PPI on the new loan and cancel it after a few months, to "tick all the boxes". When my new loan was declined anyway, I complained to the branch and asked for the PPI to be cancelled now or else! They suggested I may get one years premiums refunded but in the end they didn't offer any refund - so after hearing about re-claiming from Martin's website and television program I followed the instructions and eventually have won. About 3 months ago HFC wrote offered to reduce the outstanding balance on loan by 50% (£6k to £3k as I was finding it difficult to continue to pay the instalments) I borrowed the £3k from my son and paid it off. I thought I might get offered about £4k and would then be able to pay him back, the ombudsman said accepting the settlement would not affect my claim.

Apparently the ombudsman is inundated with these claims and thats why its all taken so long.........but well worth it.

About three years ago I took out a loan to consolidate some of my debts, it was for 15K. Finally was in a position to pay it off, after paying it off came across Martin's PPI reclaim tips, sent the standard opening gambit letters. Was told to get on my bike as they considered it as not missold. Having dragged my feet for nearly 18 months I decided to have another crack, especially as A&L had been severely fined for misselling. Got a letter today confirming that repayment.

The moral of the story, never give up.

My question is what is the legal standpoint with regards to the refund. (I would have preferred a cheque) Am I entitled to ask for this?
