    Hi,

I have just claimed back PPI from MBNA on my credit card and after 8 weeks and a couple of letters from them saying 'apologies for the delay we are looking into your claim...'. I have received my PPi back £2800ish which they have credited to my card and reduced my balance.

My question is what is the legal standpoint with regards to the refund. (I would have preferred a cheque) Am I entitled to ask for this?

    thanks
    Well done on your success.
  • there is no harm asking for it in a cheque but with it being from your card that is where they should credit it back to but still ask for it in a cheque as you have nothing to lose

well done:beer: did you use the template letter from M S E
  • Hi,

Yes I used the form from this site, I think my agreement was 1999 but I believe I had a gap where I did not use the card and then started using it again a couple of years ago so that may have had something to do with them accepting my claim.

Thanks for the comments and keep trying I have also claimed back PPI from Egg and got that back as well using the templates from this site. I am going to go for my bank charges next!

Hi Jane, well done and Congratulations.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the case for many, where they also prefer to have been refunded directly to them.

If the account is still running, many do this now, but if no arrears, contact them to ask them or tell them you prefer this was refunded directly to you.

If they admitted to mis selling the ppi and it was not a goodwill offer, I do think this should be your choice, yet with goodwill offers they are not admitting liability to mis selling, where this is often how they settle these complaints.

    Good luck with this.;)

What were you reclaiming: Egg Card PPI
    Who was the provider: Egg
How much did you get back: £169.89

I sent one letter and received the cheque.

What were you reclaiming: Barclaycard PPI
    Who was the provider: Barclaycard
How much did you get back: £69.48

I sent one letter and received the cheque from Barclaycard advising that this was a good will gesture.

Lloyds TSB are still looking into my complaint.

    • What were you reclaiming: PPI
    • Who was the provider: HFC Bank
    • How much did you get back: 11937.14
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I referred it to the Ombudsman nearly 2years ago
    • And then write your brief reclaim tale
    • had been paying monthly PPI premiums from 1998 until Nov 2006. When I was looking for a secured loan in 2006, to consolidate my debts, I asked them to cancel the PPI on a number of occaisions but they suggested I should keep it in place as it may jeopardise my new loan application. They also advised me to take the PPI on the new loan and cancel it after a few months, to "tick all the boxes". When my new loan was declined anyway, I complained to the branch and asked for the PPI to be cancelled now or else! They suggested I may get one years premiums refunded but in the end they didn't offer any refund - so after hearing about re-claiming from Martin's website and television program I followed the instructions and eventually have won. About 3 months ago HFC wrote offered to reduce the outstanding balance on loan by 50% (£6k to £3k as I was finding it difficult to continue to pay the instalments) I borrowed the £3k from my son and paid it off. I thought I might get offered about £4k and would then be able to pay him back, the ombudsman said accepting the settlement would not affect my claim.
Apparently the ombudsman is inundated with these claims and thats why its all taken so long.........but well worth it.
