  • Just got back from a 3 week holiday in Florida to a letter from HSBC stating that it didnt agree with my complaint RE: PPI misseling but as a good will gesture it would offer £7500 in setlement.

It took one letter and about 9 weeks in total, recived two holiding letters from HSBC durring this time.

Now about to book next years holiday with the payment - Good times!

Hi, I just want to say a huge thank you to you Martin. After reading your article on PPI Insurance I wrote to a company who I took a loan out with and alhough the loan was repaid and finished. Yesterday I received notification that I am to be granted compensation of £1637.00. This to me at present is a fantastic amount so thank you thank you and again thank you. To anyone reading this article which I hope you do, even if you have repaid a loan still claim, my loan finishe in 2007 and in August 2009 I wil be receiving the compensation.
    Congratulations :T :T: :T

  • This year I was off work for 6weeks and claimed back on my 6 credit cards a total of just under £5,000!! It was quite simple to do and each credit card company had different ways to do it. Barclaycard was the simpliest and gave the most back. Some companys pay you 10% of your credit card balance and some 3%. Check out small print or ring for more info on your credit card co.

Six years ago I had a cycle accident and was off for 7months and claimed back £19,000. You never know when or if you might have an accident but for piece of mind it was worth it for me.

  • What were you reclaiming: PPI on a HSBC loan from 2004
    Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £1506.35
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: x1 letter sent on 22nd June 2009 from MSA website using the following as the reason for mis-selling "...as your salesperson implied taking PPI would aid my application".

HSBC replied x4 weeks later stating they were investigating my case and said they would reply in a further x4 weeks.

Letter turned up on 20th August 2009 stating they will refund me £1506.35 made up fo the following: -

    • x6 premiums paid = £388.70
    • Taxable interest @ 8% = £7.85
    • Refund against early settlement = £650.14
    • Taxable interest @ 8% from date loan was repaid = £459.66
    • TOTAL = £1506.35
Very surprised actually that it took such little time to investigate and resolve, just to add the Offer was £1506.35 but the content of the letter refered to £1056.35 (this was obv a typo) so I called them up after noticing this and a new offer letter was on doorstep the following day with correct amount of £1506.35.

I've had x2 further loans with HSBC so may claim against these too.

Thanks to MSE as I only sent this off on a long shot that I may get something back and didn't expect this much !

This money will be buying me a new watch on my trip to Vegas next month :)

  • Another success story,
I was sorting out some old paper work and came across this egg-loan I took out in 2004 and repayed in 2007. I nearly shredded it, but thought to better check it in case I payed PPI on it. Sure enough I payed over £2500. I downloaded the template here, modified it to my circimstances and posted it. Within 1 week I had a reply that my case is been forwarded to their special department. A few days later I received another letter stating that I will receive a cheque for the full amount of the PPI that I payed incl. interest.
    What a result.
Thank you Martin for this wonderful website :T
