• What were you reclaiming: Credit Card PPI
• Who was the provider: MBNA
• How much did you get back: £1,580
• Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1 letter taken from template on website
1 letter was sent based on template, adapted to my circumstances. Took 8 weeks but received total amount of PPI premiums paid, although I think the interest is too low, so have gone back to them on this.

Took 1 letter from template on website, adapted to my husband's circumstances. Waited 8 weeks before letter from them to confirm amount being credited back to account. Haven't received breakdown yet, so may have to go back to them on the interest amount.

Sent one letter from template about 3 months ago. Had a couple of holding letters, then received an offer letter last week offering full settlement of PPI premiums paid plus interest. Sent off acceptance letter last week so just waiting for cheque now. Delighted, as my husband will be able to settle the loan 10 months early when the payment comes through. Happy days.

Still waiting for this to be resolved. Barclays are very slow. Spoke to them last week about this, as it has currently taken 3 months without resolution. I was advised that they are only now looking at complaints dating back to January, so I am going to take this to the Ombudsman as it looks like they are going to drag their heels for another few months wait yet.0 -

Just to let everyone know. I took a £6,000 loan out with HBOS in 2004. After checking the documents to reveal that there was loan insurance applied i sent the template letter off requesting a refund. Today, after much to-ing and fro-ing i have received a letter stating that my balance of £310 will be cleared and i will be repaid £1,724!!!
Absolutely delighted and will use it for an all inclusive holiday next year! Thank you very much to Martin Lewis for this fantastic site. It''s not every day you receive £1700 pounds!!

Hello,
I’ve not posted on this thread before, but I wanted to share with you my success with two PPI reclaims.
1, Barclays Bank – Loan
I wrote to Barclays using an adjusted template from here, and heard nothing. However after a few weeks decided to give them a tinkle. I was put through to a helpful gent who ‘found’ my claim on their computer system. He said to give him a week and I would receive a reply.
Sure enough after a week I received a letter from the same gent I had spoken to on the phone. The letter stated I was entitled to a PPI refund of £420.00, and it had been credited to my current account. :T
2, MBNA – Abbey credit card
Again using an adapted template from MSE, I wrote requesting a refund due to the policy being mis-sold. (was told I ‘needed’ it to have the credit card)
Received a ‘brush off’ letter back, sent another appealing, again receiving a ‘brush off’ letter back.
Filled in the FO forms, and posted it off with the letters I had sent and received from MBNA. 15 Months later (from the date of original letter to MBNA) I received a letter from the FO ruling in my favour.
12 weeks after the FO letter £1177.13 has been taken off my credit card. :T
A very BIG thank you to Martin and everyone on MSE for posting. Without this site I would never have embarked on reclaiming.
(two more claims in process – currently with the FO, HSBC and Barclaycard, I will post if/when I have news) Thank you again everyone. :beer:0 -
hi everyone, i'm a newby here so hope i do this right!!! :-)
I recently decided to use one of the templates on here for a loan that i took out with the dreaded Alliance and Leicester.
the loan i had, was for £5000 which i took out in 06. By 07, i'd needed a little more so they cancelled that loan and reset up a new one. So, for a year i had been paying for PPI that i wasn't aware of and then it was set up again, with PPI included.
Around two weeks ago i received a letter from the bank saying they woould refund me around £895 and send me documents for a new loan payment plan. After checking my records, it seemed they had totally forgotten to mention the first loan as they wanted to refund me back to 07 and not 06.
i send a follow up letter asking for a few more queries to be clarified such as, the loan from 06 plus, why they wanted me to sign a new loan agreement at the interest rates from 2 years ago.
I have now had another letter back saying the loan from 06 will be dealt with in it's own right, the apr will remain as was when set up (which i expected), and i now have a week or so left to make the decision to accept or not.
To be honest, i'm still not sure whether to accept or not - i feel the quick response to my letter (3 days) and the rush of it all to be a little concerning.
Has anyone else taken this further or been grateful of the offer? although i'm not wanting to be greedy, i do want to make sure i have everything i am entitled to rather than taking the first offer if it's not really the right thing!?
thanks, Laura0 -

hi everyone, i'm a newby here so hope i do this right!!! :-)
Hello and welcome
I recently decided to use one of the templates on here for a loan that i took out with the dreaded Alliance and Leicester. Good for you.
the loan i had, was for £5000 which i took out in 06. By 07, i'd needed a little more so they cancelled that loan and reset up a new one. So, for a year i had been paying for PPI that i wasn't aware of and then it was set up again, with PPI included. Ask them to send you a full detailed breakdown of this through the post, so you know what is what with the ppi and rebate if any for taking out a further loan.
Around two weeks ago i received a letter from the bank saying they woould refund me around £895 and send me documents for a new loan payment plan. After checking my records, it seemed they had totally forgotten to mention the first loan as they wanted to refund me back to 07 and not 06.
So was this an offer of goodwill? Or did they admit to mis selling?
Some do work on complaints separately, they vary.
i send a follow up letter asking for a few more queries to be clarified such as, the loan from 06 plus, why they wanted me to sign a new loan agreement at the interest rates from 2 years ago.
Good, you have done the right thing.
I have now had another letter back saying the loan from 06 will be dealt with in it's own right, the apr will remain as was when set up (which i expected), and i now have a week or so left to make the decision to accept or not. Only a week ??
To be honest, i'm still not sure whether to accept or not - i feel the quick response to my letter (3 days) and the rush of it all to be a little concerning.
In that particular complaint they are currently dealing with, if your not happy and if there is a big difference in the original amount to the offer, then you can ask if they are willing to higher this if this on on a goodwill offer to a more reasonable amount, or if you believe you were mis sold write to them and tell them your not happy and request a refund of the whole of the PPI you have paid and the interest.
Has anyone else taken this further or been grateful of the offer? although i'm not wanting to be greedy, i do want to make sure i have everything i am entitled to rather than taking the first offer if it's not really the right thing!?
thanks, Laura
This is personally now your choice, but if your not certain, write back to them as soon as you can to let them know how you feel on this.
Of course if they do not resolve in your favour and your not happy, you always have the FOS that will investigate but be aware this may take some time due to the volume of these complaints.
We wish you luck and hope they resolve in your favour, please keep us posted.
Cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Well had a phone call from MBNA about an old virgin credit card i had years ago on which I was trying to claim PPI and cc charges from.
Had a long discussion with the woman who I think was trying to trip me up about why I had choosen to take the PPI when I have no recollection of doing and in the end she asked what I wanted out of this situation - I happily said a good settlement figure plus 8% to which she came back with an offer of £256.80 which is £100 more than I worked it out at.
So a good result there, look forward to receiving the cheque and look forward to hearing about the charges that they owe me.
hip hip horrayy!
