PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Lodged letter with Ombudsman about a year ago to try to reclaim six-and-a-half years worth of PPI on two successive loans with Lloyds TSB.
Got reply in June saying I had won my case.
Just been paid around £5,000 from Lloyds TSB which has paid off rest of the loan, repaid family members I owed money and still some left for a holiday!
Debt free for first time since I started uni - a real life-changer.
Can't thank Martin enough for the brilliant advice! Did someone say MBE???
Well done:T0 -

Hi
My PPI claim on an egg loan has been passed to the ombudsman by the adjudicator and I am awaiting a response. Has anyone actually been paid out by egg? I get the impression they drag their heels for as long as possible (which is a bit weird if they end up having to pay more interest because of it)
Hi there,
Yes there have been success in regards of EGG resolved by the FOS, however with all cases, it may take some time, as all these businesses are over-run with these complaints.
Great news that your case have been passed on to the adjudicator, fingers crossed yours will be straight forward, where if this is the case, the norm timescale is approx 6 weeks, however this will then depend on EGG and how quickly they act etc, and if they agree with the adjudicators decision, if not it's a case that it will be moved on to the ombudsman himself for consideration etc.
Good luck.
For curiosity, how long have you been waiting for this to be passed on to the adjudicator?
Cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thanks di3004. I logged a complaint with FOS back in April. Egg responded and said they were standing by their decision not to refund me. It got referred to the adjucator at the end of June. The adjudicator then sent me a letter of their findings in July and sent me a copy of the letter they were sending to egg recommending payment. They gave egg about ten days to respond and received no response whatsoever. The adjudicator then passed it to the ombudsman a fortnight ago but I havent received any update as yet.0

Hi Mandy
That is actually not bad going really.
You did mean this April didn't you?
Sorry EGG did not agree with the decision at first, the ombudsman will sort that out for you.
I know this may take some waiting, maybe send them an email to ask for an update.;)
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

The reason they do this is simple they are currently offering a personal loan rate to new customers of 13.9% APR. Basically they are lending out our owed money to new customers at 13.9%. Whilst we are earning 8% on our money owed they are making 5.9% on our money. Banks never lose do they !
They will not pay out any quicker untill the 8% rule is scrapped and replaced with a much higher percentage say 20% from the date of the first ppi complaint letter. (are you listening FOS ?).
Anyway , with my own case still waiting for an ajudicator. My loan was taken out over the phone in 2004 with a single premium policy added with no option to remove the ppi premium on the original agreement.(which I still have ) I was told I had to have ppi to get the loan.
A straight forward case but Egg did nothing in 17 weeks other than to say they would look into it , followed by , we have not yet made a decision .
But I know i'll get there in the end it's just frustrating and annoying especially as they are now also making more money out of my money that they shouldn't even have.
Well done to all the winners especially the Egg ones ,hope to be one one day !!

Hello to all
I have been looking at this amazing website since the beginning of the year and have followed all your stories. After seeing MSE mentioning PPI mis-selling I realised that there was a way of complaining about it. I have just had a success of about £600 from MBNA - I really thought this company would be the hardest to get something back from but they have been the first company to give me something back! (I have another claim with Lloyds at the FOS and one with Halifax going to the FOS).
I didn't need to go to the FOS really wih MBNA although when the FOS pushed for a final response from MBNA on my behalf (I thought they had already given me one but was wrong) I got £600 approx back within 2 weeks of that happening.
 Thank you so much Martin - a fairly stress free process which took about 3 months start to finish! Although have the other 2 herberts to take care of first!
Thanks to all for all the encouragement!0 -
Just recieved a letter to say the PPI I took out in 2006 with Citi Cards is to be re-paid in full plus interest, I only sent the letter I downloaded from the site 2 weeks ago!0
