- What were you reclaiming: PPI on a Personal Loan
- Who was the provider: Halifax
- How much did you get back: 650ish
- Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: ???? got a response within 14 days then they looked into it & then they sent me a total amount owed.
- And then write your brief reclaim tale: thought it was worth a stamp to see if i had any chance, i'm so glad i did as it has wiped £650ish off the rest of my loan, and made my payments smaller for the next 2 years, everyone should at least try, as i said its worth the stamp! also that total included 8% interest!! :j
Well done and Congratulations, so happy for you.:j

What were you reclaiming: PPI on graduate loans, both of which were topping up an original loan where I had originally taken PPI
Who was the provider: LLoydsTSB
How much did you get back: Just over £1800
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One letter was all it took. They kept writing saying they were still looking at it, been passed on etc. I decided to wait for the 'sod off' letter before chasing it. The 'sod off' never came, after around 16 weeks I was made an offer for the full rebate plus interest at 8%. I LOVE YOU MARTIN!!! I'm getting married in a few weeks so this was a massive massive help.
And then write your brief reclaim tale
Easiest way is to share the letter I sent:
I am writing to you concerning the above loans and the payment protection insurance (PPI) that was applied to them, as I now believe I was mis-sold these policies.
After graduating I took a loan with Lloyds TSB. I was persuaded by your salesperson that I should also take the PPI, because I did not have a permanent, stable job. I took this advice and took a loan with the PPI added on.
On <date 2002> I took a further amount of credit, which was effectively a new loan (number XXXX). Then in July 2003 I changed the loan again (number XXXX).
On both of these above occasions, I was never asked if I still required the PPI, nor was I advised that it was optional, it was merely added into the paperwork.
My circumstances had changed significantly since I had taken out the original loan and I had told the salesperson this on each occasion. I was in a stable and very secure job with the NHS (a job that I am still in) which provides excellent cover for both redundancy and sickness/accident and I would not have required the PPI had it been properly explained to me.
I was not told that I did not have to take the PPI policies out with each loan; I had assumed that because the loans were linked to the original graduate loan that I had to keep the same terms to benefit from the new loans you were offering me.
I have now realised that each of these loans was effectively a new loan, with a new agreement. Therefore you were obliged to tell me about the specific criteria of the policy and confirm that it was the right product for me and my circumstances at that time.
For all of these reasons I do not believe the policies were sold fairly, nor were they sold in my best interests.
I am therefore requesting a full refund of all premiums on both the above named loan policies. As I believe I have been deprived of this money I also expect 8% statutory interest, the amount a court would award, to be added to each payment made.
I look forward to a full and prompt response to this letter and for the matter to be concluded within eight weeks. If this does not happen I will be contacting the Financial Ombudsman to investigate my complaint as well as withdrawing all the current business and accounts that I currently hold with Lloyds TSB.

And regard your other complaint....
You only have to give Barclays 8 weeks for a full and final response and they are known for not getting back in time so if it is now over 8 weeks since first complaining you would have the option of now taking this complaint to the FOS. You do have to remember though that complaints with the FOS are taking between 12 to 18months.0 -
If you get your rebate from Picture just let the FSCS/Deloitte know how much you got and they will put it in their calculations.

What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
Who was the provider: Egg
How much did you get back: Everything! £1650!
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter
Egg mis-sold me PPI in 2003.
I wrote to complain in 2007, they said no.
I wrote again to complain after reading the MSE guide on reclaiming, they said no.
I wrote back again in 2008 and said "you know the ombudsman says yes most of the time and you're not taking me seriously" they said no.
I wrote back again, last month, told them I knew full well they had no intention of considering paying out even though they knew full well they'd have to pay out if I went to the ombudsman. I told them they were trying to stall and make me run out of time to go to the ombudsman. I told them they'd caused me genuine grief and anxiety for which I'd sought medical help (true).
2 weeks later, a letter arrives with 2 cheques attached - all the premiums I ever paid plus all the extra interest I was charged!
My advice is simple - do NOT take no for an answer. Not the first time, not the second time, not the third time. Even if they say no again and again, if you know you are right, keep on at them until they accept that you are right and they were wrong!
