  • I'm in exactly the same positon. I complained to HSBC about my graduate loan and they have since sent 6 letters telling me they're looking into it. I have received a letter from the Financial Ombudsman saying they have received my complaint and will keep me informed.
I hope that they return a similar amount to me, however, like you i have other uses for this money. If anyone has any information as to whether they can insist on taking it off the loan amount, please let us know.

Hello, Ive been sucessful in reclaiming ppi and charges back but however i did have a credit card account with Sainsburys. How do I go about even checking that I had PPI on the account as I do not hold any statements etc or even any details of the account. If I ask for my details from Sainsburys will this show me that I had PPI attached to the credit?

    Hi there

If you taken this out in the last 6 years, you can write to request for true copy of the agreement (CCA), enclose a £1 postal order or cheque payment for this, they should send you this through the post by 12 says, post by recorded delivery.

However, another way as well, but still write for the above, the quickest menthod for you to know is ring them and tell them you want to know if you were covered in case you ever have to make a claim, and ask if they have your details on this.;)

I used the MSE template to request that the PPI was removed and refunded from a HSBC Graduate Loan (I was told that I couldn't have the loan unless I took out the PPI and being ill-informed and pretty desperate for the money, I complied....) Fast forward a couple of years and I realised I was being ripped-off big-style so through this website I did something about it - thanks :-)

HSBC sent a letter saying that they did not accept that they were at fauly but nevertheless agreed to refund the full amount plus interest (£1912) - success!!

However, here comes the chew......HSBC say that the money that they refunded (that they wrongly took from me in the first place) needs to be used to pay off my loan with them. When they restructured the loan they were insistent that the lump sum went back to them. I have another use in mind for a part of the money (namely paying off a credit card and a family wedding abroad that I must attend). Can they do this to me????

Hi there and well done to you.:T:beer::T.

If your not happy with this then let them know, unfortunately this seems to be how they are dealing with refunds right now, but you can complain if your not happy with it being dealt this way.
If they admitted liability, you have a stronger chance of arguing this, where if it was an offer with them not admitting liability, this seems to be the case.

For more info, Maxdp posted a thread on here in how the FOS work out refunds if it were in their hands, so it may be the same if you went this direction:

But there is no harm in asking, good luck with this.;)

    A success story!

I took out a loan with Lloydstsb and took out the PPI at the same time. I was employed for 16hours a week but this was between 2 jobs. I was made redundant from my main job of 10 hours a week, when i went to make a claim they said I couldn't because I was still employed (for 6 hours a week!!!!) I complained at the time but they just shrugged it off saying I was still covered for death. The injustice of it all really stung, and paying £80 per month out for the loan when I was on IS was a real struggle.

Two weeks ago I used the template to claim back missold PPI. Today they have sent me a letter saying they are giving me my money back. Thank you moneysavingexpert.com you have helped me get justice after all these years. They listened. I'm sooooooooooooooooo happy!!!!!!!

Just had a PPI result from Northern Rock: £487 cash PLUS £4000 off the loan, all thanks to MSE! Used the template letter, sent off, very easy and straightforward, reply and cheque three weeks later

Just thought I would say a big thank you for all your help. This is such great news for me as i have to go into hospital soon and this cash will really help out. Many thanks - MMG:j
