PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

  • Just to let everyone know not to give up on reclaiming their PPI. I took a loan out with First Plus way back in 2002. I only had that one for about 12 mths when I increased it (paid off original loan and started a new one but for a lot more). To cut a long story short I took out PPI on both loans. It wasn't until last year that I realised that only my partner was covered on the loan for sickness unemployment etc. We only took out the insurance to cover us if either one of us lost our job etc or became sick. In 2004 my husband had an accident and was off work for about 3 mths so we claimed on the insurance successfully. So when we found out about this reclaim business I thought I'd give it a go. My loan with FP only covered for the first 5 years anyway and so have had to buy further life insurance now as we've had the loan for 5.5 years now. We can't afford to take out extra income protection now so I complained to First Plus about the misselling of the PPI. I didn't think I'd get anywhere as all these moneyhelp forums said that we couldn't claim because we had had a successfull payout from the insurance when my husband was off sick. FP came back with my tapes of conversations from when we took out the PPi saying they didn't mi-sell it. So I forgot about it until Jan this year when I decided to push it through via Financial Ombudsman. Within 4.5 mths I'd had my case passed to a adjudicator who then requested all the information. The FOP came back and agreed with me and suggested that FP gave me all the money I had paid to date plus interest to date!! and to restructure my present loan as though I had never had the insurance from 5 years ago.!!!! Yipeeee

:TFirst Plus didn't agree with me but as a goodwill gesture sent me a cheque for a whopping £9798.00!! Just short of £10,000.

So reclaim even if you've claimed on your insurance in the past it doesn't matter. You can have still been missold the PPI.

Good luck to everyone out there.

    Barclaycard success,
Morning everyone, well after almost 4 months of asking Barclaycard for a PPI refund, they finally sent me a letter yesterday stating they were repaying me £71.50, not a lot I know but it's money off my CC bill! Unusually, they asked if I wanted it paying into my bank or off my credit card. I also got to the stage where they sent me a questionnaire asking for all the detaails they already had (which I refused to fill in). Keep fighting folks, you'll get it back eventually. Once again, thanks to Di, Amersall, Pinknicko and everyone else who help people on here
well done. glad you got the help you needed, just shows what we can do when we put our minds to it,

Had a letter today from my FOS adjudicator who has recommended that Egg make me a settlement and pay £200 for inconvenience and distress, on top of returning all PPI payments plus interest plus 8%.
Not celebrating yet as Egg have till early July to agree or not and if they dont agree I will have to wait for an Ombudsman which could take a few more months.
well done pinknico, hope you dont have to wait too long xx

Pinknico, can I ask was this credit card ppi which was an online application - if it was you have given me some hope.

I hope it gets sorted quickly for you too.
even online applications have the same rules as others taken in the bank or on the phone, you have the same rights as anyone else claiming mis sell for ppi, just hang on in there

I took out a Personal Loan for £13,000 from bank Of Scotland in 2003.
They added £3,453.43 for Payment Protectection Insurance.
I wrote to BOS in December 2008 asking for a refund of the PPI using one of the templates available on Martins' website.
After some "to-ing and fro-ing" of letters I finally received a cheque for just over £4,500 last week.
My advice is don't give up - persevere!
    Thank you Martin!
well done to you, onwards and upwards
