PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

Thank you for your response. The point I was trying to make was that I had tried to do it on my own but had to employ the services of a claims company! I knew that I had paid PPI and could remember some of the conversations I had in my dealings with the banks. It wasn't just a chance shot to see if I could gain money fraudulently, just a shame that as an individual I didn't have the sway which these companies have. My lack of paperwork to me was a real problem.
I am grateful for what I've now been repaid and also for these companies.
Doesnt matter. The complaints process is free of charge and you have a right of appeal to the free ombudsman service.
If you choose to employ a company then that is your choice and you are responsible for that.
A number of banks have been going back over old and archived records and have found data that would not have been on computer and are able to make revised decisions. In most cases, the banks auto-reopen complaints in that scenario (as can be seen by the numbers of people you see posting on this site telling us that has happened). In your case, you beat them to it by employing a third party but it was still your choice. You could have asked the bank again at no cost to you.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I cannot thank this website enough for their advice.
Over the past two years myself and my family have claimed for 2 mis-sold CPP policies and 2 mis-sold PPI policies and we have also claimed back fees for a mis-sold bank account, all from Natwest Bank. In total we have now received over £40,000 back from Natwest without having to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service. In each of these cases our claim was upheld with either a single letter/completed form to the bank or at worst a letter followed by a single phone call.
We simply used the template letters available on this website and as a family we are now entirely debt free with savings left over. I really cannot stress how easy the whole process was and would encourage everyone to claim.
To Martin and the team, thank you, thank you, thank you!0 -
THANKYOU MSE!
I'm very late back to report, but I claimed back PPI using your guidance in 2013. I had no paperwork at all, it was from years back but within 6 weeks of sending off the letter had £3000 back.
I didn't post at the time, as I fell off the mse wagon, and let things slip.
But I'm getting our finances back on track now and I realised how much the info here helped me out of a hole during a very dark time, PPI money when I needed it the most xxStaring debt - June 2013 - £21,000
Current debt - February 2018 - £11,378.60
Emergency fund £500 / 100%
Debt free one day at a time0 -
Another late reply -
in 2012 I successfully claimed back PPI from Lloyds bank, using the instructions and templates from this site. As we were on a DMP at the time, the payment of just over £4,000 went along way towards clearing our debts and we were then able to negotiate full and final settlements and finish our DMP the following year
Thought that was the end of our PPI story until my husband recently received a letter from HSBC in relation to an account he used to hold with HFC Bank/Beneficial Finance some years ago. The letter stated that they thought he may have been missold PPI (we didn't think there was PPI on that account) so he put in a complaint to the effect that he was not aware PPI had been applied and he has just received a payment of nearly £2,500
We know that there's definitely no more PPI to reclaim as these were the only two companies we had loans with, but it just goes to show (once again) that it's definitely worth reclaiming0 -
So since PPI claims began I watched people try and both fail and win back PPI and I jokingly said that I could do with a payment back. MSE had explained that there was no risk and that it was worth a try EVEN IF you only vaguely remember a conversation or had no details. I literally had no paperwork or statements for my bank loans and accounts, but remembered my account number with HSBC from 1997 when I took out my first ever loan. I remembered the conversation with the bank staff about how I would pay if I lost my job, and couldn't remember if i had given in to his pressure talk or not. So I finally gave up wondering and filled in the MSE templates, sent it to HSBC and forgot about it.
About 2 weeks later HSBC sent a letter which shocked me, not only had they responded, but they said on looking into my account they found 5 records of PPI. They had passed it on for further investigation and would respond within 6 weeks. At this point my mind was racing, JACKPOT was my initial thought, and then thinking back could only remember a small loan i had taken out so it was only likely to be a couple of hundred pounds.
Well last week i got a pack through from HSBC, an apology, a full explanation, and an offer. So the loan I had, they agreed they had mis sold PPI on, and any further overdraft, update and change to the loan, they AUTOMATICALLY had ticked yes to PPI. One of the five accounts I had apparently cancelled within the cooling off period (not that I can remember what happened in '97) , but 4 PPI policies existed and they wanted to repay.
With interest from 1997, no account details and applying on a whim, I just had £4297 put into my account - including the interest and compensation. Cannot thank MSE enough, as originally I had looked into doing this through a PPI company and that would have cost me £1300. If you're even 1% thinking you had a policy but haven't been bothered to try. DO IT!0 -
After 3 years I have finally had an offer of 2.2k in recompense for a Renault Clio car loan that I took out with renault finance at the time in 2003. Having been unsuccessful with what is now RCI finance I wrote to the underwriters St Andrews Group. When they failed to respond I contacted the Ombudsman. It has taken years but I feel that it has been well worth the effort!0

Well done to you both, garethcole2012 and cherylow.
It really does pay to pursue them. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
2 for 2 now. Previous post and update here #36551
The other company outstanding following MSE Template and 1 simple phone call, had been texting and advised we would have an answer by the 20th June.
Today the 20th June a letter arrived, total refund inc Interest was £1270. Now for letters sent costing me about a £5 for paper postage and a wee bit of time, I would say that's a result I can live with. Paid for a holiday and the small overdraft between the Halifax and MBNA. Happy bunnies.
Thanks again MSE for the template and fellow work colleagues for giving me the push, total received from 2 banks a smidge over £2500, not the same amounts as others, but better back in my account than theirs I say.0 -
where can I find these template letters that are used in the pursuit of a claim please. New MSE READER.0

Just contact the bank and they will send you a questionnaire, you can also use the Ombudsman form and send it to the bank. Make a copy in case you have to go to the Ombudsman.

Some banks will do the claim over the phone.0
