    PPI Party Pooper
After being told by Barclays 2 years ago that they could not trace my details, I used the form downloaded from your site in January and successfully claimed £975 back from Barclaycard. In February I started to try and claim my late husbands PPI, after preserveing was finally successful, last week received confirmation that I had been award over £1600 if I hadn't signed up for Martins emails I wouldn't even tried to reclaim. so thanks Martin it certainly pays to persevere.

I've successfully reclaimed PPI on three loans over the past six months or so and posted details on here. Out of the blue the other day I had a letter from the bank to say they had carried out a review of the way they assess PPI claims and as a result were sending me another £100 - on top of the reclaims I'd already settled. Very welcome indeed. Has anyone else come across this with other banks?
Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A

Well, you don't say what Bank you are with!

Treat it as a bonus, but don't expect any more or you're likely going to be disappointed.

The extra money related to reclaims from old loans from NatWest.

I've also reclaimed from another bank in the last six months, but not heard anything from them about any recalculations.

As you say, I'm treating the £100 as a nice bonus. I'm not expecting anything similar from the other bank, but if I do, then it will very welcome. :)

Several years ago I sent the ppi template from your site to all my previous creditors regarding mis sold ppi. I had no current paperwork and sent the relevant letter for this. I was told I did not hold any ppi with any of them. As I didn't have any paperwork I did not feel it worthwhile to take it to the ombudsman.

In April I completed one of the letters that came through the post from a claims company. Agreed to pay 30% of any successful claims. Thought got nothing to lose. I was working in the NHS at the time.
I have so far been advised that I will be receiving £25,000!!! In total from RBS and Barclaycard for numerous accounts my hubby and I have held. My gripe is that I have to pay this company 30% which don't get me wrong have been fantastic! but had the banks confessed when I wrote to them I would have been £7,500 better off. I wish I still had the paperwork to prove I'd already written to them to sue them for dishonesty and recompense!
For anyone hesitating, my advice is DO IT! Good luck n thank you ML and my claims company consumer refund service!
  • Can I complain about being told originally not having been mis sold it or indeed having it. For a claims company years later to obtain 25k for us. We have to pay the company 30% which is worth it but I feel unfair and wondered if there are any grounds for the banks should compensate us for this for their dishonesty and cover up! In our case it amounts to a difference of 7,500 pounds!

To be honest, you made the mistake of simply complaining about possible PPI, and the most rudimentary of searches was probably carried out as a courtesy to you. You should have researched first and then complained...

The Claims company will have sent a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter which requires that the Bank send all information kept on file for you. This involves a far more thorough search of their archives and would have cost you just £10-not a third of your redress..

Since you could have just as easily sent this SAR yourself (or referred your original complaint to the Ombudsman), the fact that a Claim Company charged you for basically putting a stamp on the envelope containing your complaint is not reason to accuse the Bank of "dishonesty".

You can complain about anything which you remain dissatisfied about. The Bank won't be paying the Claims Company fee, however. It was your own choice to employ this firm and paying them is your own responsibility.

You should have simply complained again alone (or gone to the Ombudsman when you had the chance).

Incidentally, well done on your success! :)
Just a pity your persistence involved employing a Claims Company...
  • What were you reclaiming: Credit Card Repayment Cover
Who was the provider: Bank of Scotland
How much did you get back: over £1300
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: MSE Template Letter/Form, no Ombudsman

    My Story:

Was really skeptical about claiming anything because I was of the opinion I probably did tick said box or knowingly took the cover so why should I lie and say I didn't want it. Discussions with work colleagues surrounding the whole scenario prompted a change of view. Logged onto MSE and read through the pages of information, dug out some old records for 9 companies and financial institutions have held cards and mortgages with and got to work editing and sending off the MSE Template PPI Claim form.

Cost to me was 11 (2 sent to wrong address and resent) sets of 2nd Class Signed for stampage. Got lots back from Mortgages and others saying I didn't have any PPI, which I was cool with as I was sending some on spec anyways, not convinced I actually did have PPI with them.

Bank of Scotland called and wanted to check some info on claim form, spent 10 minutes answering questions about a nearly 10 years ago conversation in the bank and a couple of "update on your claim" text messages were received during the process.

Claim form sent 25/04/2016 letter received with compensation 11/06/16 6 weeks to turn around. Worked out average over 12 months from statements with Repayment cover on would have been about £1000 paid out so to get £1300+, money for old rope and not going to argue with it.

Still got MBNA Credit Card, similar process Phone call and text messages, outstanding and also Synergy Financial Services to come back to me so we'll see how they fair with BofS.
  • Thank you for your response. The point I was trying to make was that I had tried to do it on my own but had to employ the services of a claims company! I knew that I had paid PPI and could remember some of the conversations I had in my dealings with the banks. It wasn't just a chance shot to see if I could gain money fraudulently, just a shame that as an individual I didn't have the sway which these companies have. My lack of paperwork to me was a real problem.
I am grateful for what I've now been repaid and also for these companies.
