  • Hi all, does anyone have a good experience of getting an offer from HSBC and them paying into a non-HSBC account? I'm trying to work out when mine will be paid, but looking through the forum I only see bad stories of when HSBC haven't paid within the agreed timescale.

My letter says it should be paid within 4 weeks, and it's only been one, so there's no panic stations just yet - it's just that I've failed to find a positive story about HSBC payments on here so far and wondered if they are any!?

When it's all done and dusted I will happily post the full story on here.

HSBC are no better (and no worse) than other banks when it comes to paying redress.

Of course you can only find negative experiences on the forum (my own included) because very few will post to boast that they were quickly and efficiently refunded within the stated timescale.

The latter group will be the great majority, though.
  • Thank you.

Funnily enough the money was in my account this morning!
  • Today I received £9,400 ppi redress from HSBC.

My credit story began when I was 18 back in 2002, I walked into a branch to change my Solo card to a Switch and walked out with a Mastercard and overdraft. Cue seven years later and I have a £25k loan, £5k Mastercard and £1200 overdraft. I was making the minimum payments every month but not paying anything off as you can imagine. One day, HSBC told me they wanted my overdraft back within 28 days. I said I couldn't. We couldn't agree on a manageable repayment schedule, so I had no choice but to enter a DMP, which was the best thing I could possibly have done as by May this year, after seven years, I had paid off every penny.

I started my ppi claim in January this year so it's not exactly been quick. There were some issues due to my many changes of address in the past few years, various letters back and forth, a couple of trips into branch to prove who I am, a questionnaire and six months of eagerly checking the post but finally today £9,400 has arrived in my account. I'm debt free and at the age of 32 finally have a healthy savings account.

My advice - just do the claim. Do it yourself and keep every penny. It may take a while, but with persistence you could end up with a nice pay day like I did. If a lazy so and so like me can do it, anyone can.
  • Hi, ive received a questionnaire from Barclays bank about a sky credit card I had about ten years ago saying I could be owed money from a payment break plan. I have no idea if I had this on my card and have no details about the account. I have had two addresses since I had the card and they have tracked me down. Is this worth pursuing and whats the best way to go about it as I have never claimed before. I would appreciate the help or if somebody could point me in the right direction. Many thanks

The best and only way to go about this is being honest, if you didn't know you had it and feel it was miss-sold then explain to them why you feel this was the case and present any evidence you have to support this.

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I've had one success and one failure.
Failure (marks and Spencer's) credit card that I took out in 1990. Still deciding whether to take it to the next step (ombudsman).
Success (hsbc) For PPI redress on a credit card. £400 Had since 2000.
Thank you MSE site, as I used your template from the site and did it myself.

Pre-2005 sales it depends if M&S or the person that sold it came under the regulation, the FOS can look but if it's considered pre-reg then they'll not be able to proceed, only one way to find out
