Just want to say thankyou for all the valuable advice given on this site. Put in a PPI claim for a M&S chargecard in 2011 which was refused ( application signed in store and not explained ) . Did not pursue it any further and out of the blue 4 weeks ago we received a letter saying they had , on closer inspection , decided to uphold the claim ! 4 weeks to the day we received a cheque for £17,000 plus , gobsmacked.
Never give up hope and nice things do happen sometimes.
Thankyou0 -
LOL I'll let you know what developes.0

In 2012 I successfully claimed from HSBC £2,275.28 in relation to PPI on my credit card and £8,420 in relation to PPI on various loans. Last week I received a letter from them advising that they had obtained further records and were paying additional redress of £780.37.
I've now received that money and as you can imagine I'm rather happy about it. But it's made me wonder where this additional money has come from and also since this was in relation to my credit card claim if here was any possibility they might be offering me more from the loans?0 -
How can anyone on an internet forum possibly know anything about your personal financial circumstance?
You'll have to approach your Bank for the answer to your query, but the answer is that they would have already paid you if it was forthcoming...0 -

A big thank you to Martin and all the posters on this forum for giving me the inspiration to make a claim on mis-sold PPI.
I took out 2 credit cards - one with First Direct and one with Barclaycard in 2003 and 1996 respectively - both with PPI / Balance Protector.
Whenever I've taken out loans in the past I've always opted out of PPI because of the cost and for the simple reason I've worked for big employers who have generous sickness / redundancy provisions meaning I could never really get value from any PPI.
With credit cards it was different - I just thought it was a given that you took PPI. That said, several years ago I tried to cancel the First Direct balance protector as I always repaid the balance and was paying the premium for no reason. I stopped using the FD card when it was such a hassle to cancel it and I haven't used the Barclaycard for years either. It was only until I saw Martin on TV when it clicked that I might have a valid claim.
Firstly I went to Experian website and did a free personal credit check to get the card numbers (remember to cancel the subscription before you get charged!). Then I filled in the form for First Direct, then the online one for Barclaycard.
Within a couple of weeks FD called me to discuss aspects of my claim (sickness provision at work, etc.) and then Barclaycard did the same.
2 weeks later FD wrote and offered me £525 in settlement and, whilst on holiday a couple of weeks later checking my bank balance, Barclaycard has paid in a few quid short of £3,800!!
What a great result, over £4k for the price of 1 stamp and about an hour's form filling and phone calls.
The moral of the story? I was mis-sold PPI on both of these cards and the providers have paid me back plus interest, etc. I hope this might inspire others to do likewise where they have been wronged - believe!
One final note, Barclaycard were far more gracious in their reply than FD (who incidentally are my bankers). FD couldn't even bring themselves to apologise.
Believe it - do it!0 -
Ten years ago I took out a loan from Lloyds TSB to buy a car. A few years later I cleared some debt and got a newer car so borrowed more.
As I had a job with a local authority I was in the fortunate position to have six months full pay and six months half pay if I was off sick. I felt I didn't need ppi but was told that the loan may be turned down if I didn't take it. When I topped up my loan I insisted that I did not need the insurance.
When I completed my claim (using the help on MSE) I discovered that Ppi had been added to every loan.
After 5 weeks, completing the bank's questionnaire and a short discussion on the phone I received a cheque for £6,241 yesterday.
Thank you for the encouragement .... I'm not sure I would have done it without the weekly emails pushing me to make the claim.
Next ..... Did I have Ppi on my credit cards? Here goes!0 -

Re-iterating many of the comments on here, a big thank you goes out to Martin and also all of the contributors to this forum in particular, as this was the forum that made me get up and do something. So here's hoping I can give back and inspire others in the same way.
After becoming debt-free in January of this year, I decided to pursue some PPI claims given the success stories I'd seen on this very forum. The whole process was extremely simple and I am glad to say that I have now received offers of £3,500 and £10k from two lenders, with a third due in a week or two (fingers crossed). My only concern is that the lender offering the £10k settlement claims I owe them £5k for an error they made, but that's a separate issue and obviously I am arguing this.
All of this was achieved with very little information to hand and I would urge anyone out there who hasn't claimed already to do so. The effort was minimal, totalling probably half a day. Also, don't be afraid to do it yourself. Unfortunately an older relative got sucked in by a PPI claims company's sales patter and she ended up having to give them around £3k out of approximately an £8k settlement.0 -
Have been thinking about claiming PPI on my mortgage for some time, and eventually went for it. I printed MSEtemplate and filled it in. I got a nice phone call from Lloyds Tsb for clarification on a few points. Letters arrived at a later date. After tax (yes i had to pay £500 tax on compo and interest) a nice cheque to pay into our bank for just over £7000.........
One tip. Get all paperwork to hand before filling form in. then it is easy....0
