I do not know if it helped with the complaint
Read back your original post on the subject and you'll see that you make it seem that the name and address of the Halifax Rep had somehow aided your complaint. In reality, this was just incidental and it was other evidence which proved useful. I and others thought you wanted to approach this member of staff directly.

    Regardless, well done!:D

No, I didn't know they were sending me the document,the1st I knew about it was when I opened the envelope from them.I didn't ask for it,they just gave me it.I would never go to the member of staff. This was never my intention......it was about 20 years ago.....a bit long to hold a grudge.:)Thank you Moneyineptitude
  • What were you reclaiming: Loan
    Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £824
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale:
On a whim decided to chase HSBC for PPI I had 12 years ago on a loan I had no paperwork on, despite no longer having any dealings with them they found the details and sent me an offer letter. Rather happy!

Have been refused any claim by RBS re: PPI and now they state that they have not acted unfairly in reducing my Credit from £8,500 to £1,000!
Do I go to the Ombudsman as it's more than 6 months since I began the complaint?

If you have a record of poor money management (such as late payments, going over your limit etc) then they can reduce it.

Equally, if you asked for the credit agreement and they could not supply it then they can reduce it (although typically they will either prevent use of the card or lower the limit to a smaller figure than £1000 in those cases until you sign a new agreement).

If they believe you are unable to afford such a limit then they can reduce it.

If their lending criteria has changed they can change it.

However, if none of those apply, then they should not reduce your limit just because you won a PPI complaint. It is not something you typically see either. In the cases seen so far, one of the above has usually been applied.

As you are outside 6 months, you can now be timebarred from the FOS.

  • Following guidelines from this site I reclaimed my PPI myself. MBNA were great, they actually sent me a letter letting me know that I had possibly been mis-sold PPI, sent me the form which I completed and within a short space of time they sent me a cheque for £1,760. Today I received a cheque from Capital One for £4,507.20 - their process took much longer but within the time limits they specified. Waiting for Barclays Bank to respond - application sent last week as my card provider was Littlewoods Financial Services and it took me ages to get anywhere with them. Looked at back of card and it says Barclays so hoping they will act properly.
Helped my sister complete her forms and she has been rejected by Lloyds - sent this on to the FO as her reason for claiming was same as mine and they say she was not not mis-sold.
Helping another friend whose bank turned down her claim as she did not have a life insurance policy to cover the loan. she contacted FO and she was sent a form by FO which had the section re nominating 3rd party filled in by them - Claims4U Ltd - surely they should be impartial so do not understand why they are trying to get her to pay 25% + 17.5% VAT to a claims company when she was obviously dealing the the matter herself.

    Very clearly your friend did NOT contact the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The Ombudsman does not work with any Claims company. From what you say, it sounds as if your friend has mistakenly clicked on a link to Claims4U (perhaps through a bungled Google search). Under no circumstances should she return this form. The correct details for FOS can be found here;

The FOS are impartial. However, there are dodgy companies out there the pretend they are a regulator or ombudsman and tell lies to get their fees. There are warnings on the sites of the OFT, FCA and FOS about this.

Sounds like she has been conned.

  • A Big thank you to everyone, especially Amersall who's advise I followed regarding my PPI claim against GM card. I have rec'd a letter from the FOS today, my complaint against GM Card has been upheld....it's taken 18 months but the wait has been worth it, no indication of how much they will reimburse me but very happy to have won. Thank you everyone for the sound advise....wouldn't have done it without you :j :rotfl:

  • I came across old paperwork from 1999 when I took out our latest mortgage (now paid off - Fab) Noticed Mort Payment Protection Policy through Cardif Pinnacle had been added to the monthly cost by Alliance Leicester now Santander. On the basis that if you don't ask, you don't get, and taking the advice on the site to avoid Claims Companies I did all the contact work myself back in Feb. Emailing, downloading, copying, long story short we have now had an award offer of £5500 from Santander to repay the cost of the Mortgage PPI over a decade. Oh happy day indeed and an inspiration to others to give it a try as money is repaid with interest. If it wasn't for the site drawing attention and awareness of this PPI issue I would probably never have thought to do this and its quite an achievement as the claim was (naturally) initially rejected as they 'could not trace that a policy had been sold' and not only that both institutions involved back in 1999 had been merged or taken over with name changes to complicate the issue. Well done to me & Big thanks to MSE.com for making folks aware of the potential. Its true. If you don't ask, you don't get!
