I wonder if anyone can give some advice? I have made a claim for ppi on 2 old barclaycards that I had in 1992. One was a Mastercard 1992 - 2001 and the other a Visa Gold card 1992-1999. Both had ppi on them but I had no idea about it until some-one at Barclays told me when I phoned them on an unrelated matter. Questionairres have been sent off but I wanted to know if my claim stood any chance at all as I am aware that Barclaycard only keep statements going back 6 years. I still bank with Barclays and have been with them for some 35 years so would that make any difference to Barclaycard being able to access details from 1992? I would never have needed ppi as I wasn't working back then as I had 2 small children. I vaguely remember being told that I couldn't have the cards without ppi due to my being a single parent.
Does anyone have an idea how this may go.
    Thanks
It could go either way if they can find info or not.
As a single parent with children, you would have had to have life insurance, did you have life insurance already in place at that time?, if you did then you need to let them know if they reject.

You would not have needed the unemployment cover as you did not work so that negates that part of the PPI, you would not have been able to claim for the sickness part either, see what they come back with and let us know.

Think I am posting this in the right place.................

Today have received £2598 from HB*S for missold PPI on a mortgage that we had 12 years ago. We moved to LL*yds in 2000 and closed the policy with HB*S at that time - we thought we didnt have a chance because of the length of time but it just shows you! Coincidentally we also received over £4K for missold PPI on the mortgage form LL*yds - they paid up last year...........we didnt use a claims company for either claim and also had very few details and incomplete set of statements for both..........if you are thinking about claiming but think maybe the time lapse is too long or you dont have the details then think again!! Now going to tackle a couple of CCs :)

  • After almost a year I have just received confirmation of a £6500 reclaim :rotfl:

I had a consolidation loan with Welcome finance approximately 7 yrs ago and at the time was told if I took out the PPI policy I would have more chance of getting the loan. As I really needed the money I signed up, hence the complaint.

I used the template letter from the money saving expert site and found an address for welcome finance (no longer trading) and sent it off. They said nothing to do with us the loan was with first national (GE capital). After playing letter ping pong with both companies and involving the PPi provider Cardiff pinnacle with no success I sent a letter to the ombudsman with copies of all the letters attached. The ombudsman reviewed my compliant and said I had a very strong case and that they would be writing to Cardiff pinnacle to ask them to review the complaint. That letter was sent in December after providing some more information and weekly phone calls to seek n update, I finally have a reclaim including interest totalling £6500.

Don't take no for an answer, be persistent, follow the guides and don't use a claim handler that's just a waste.

I have been encouraged by all your success, and will be attempting to make a few claims on my own. Thanks to all who posted.

I did have life insurance with my mortgage and also £10,000 of life insurance with my Barclays account.
Back in those days, most people had a barlaycard visa as it was needed to guarantee cheques. Barclays themselves didn't have a cheque guarantee card back in the 90's. My first BC was back in the 70's when I first opened my bank account so it is possible that ppi was put on it back then and has just carried on being added to all the replacement cards.
I will let you know what happens.
    Thanks gain

We just had incomplete mortgage statements and mortgage account numbers for each claim - they were not so much helpful as just coughed up the money - we just got standard replies and had a cheque in both cases in the stipulated time - not very difficult at all
