  • Phoned Barclaycard on 18/6/13 after spotting Card Repayment Protection on my statement. Told them that I was not aware of signing up for this and asked them to cancel immediately. Turned out the insurance was taken out on 11/07/2005. I then asked them to investigate for me as I didn't sign up for it (card was originally with Egg).

Got a letter in the post on 12/7/13 saying they have investigated the matter, and are not satisfied that the CRP policy was suitable for my needs, and have upheld my complaint.

Have got a full refund of the premiums paid, plus interest and 8% per annum simple interest, plus an extra 45 days simple interest to give them time to pay me back.

    :D

    Total payment back £2,292.54 :)

So happy this site gave me the prompt to go investigating and looking into it, otherwise it could have gone on even longer! Thanks Martin!

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if Lloyd's tab play silly !!!!!!s? I rang them almost 6 weeks ago stating my reason for claiming PPI back. I got a letter a few days later confirming my call at the top of the letter there were 9 loan accounts, which is about right. I rang last week and was told they have 8 weeks to deal with it, what I'm wondering is do they do this on purpose so that you have to go to the ombudsman? Or will they pay out after 8 weeks? Also a woman at work reckons anyone owed anything doesn't need to claim cos you'll get what's owed automatically? Is that true? Thanks

If you haven't had a satidsfactory response after 8 weeks, you can refer your complaint to the ombudsman. In practice they do suually respond within the 8 weeks, but it's up to you, two more weeks of waiting for them or 18 months with the Ombudsman?

They will 'pay out' if your complaints are upheld, and they pay out to an agreed shcedule, which is your premiums, the associated interest, and 8% simple interest.

Some banks are proactively contacting customers because that way they can start a time bar to put an end time on future complaints.

It's better to complain anyway rather than wait.

Yes, if you were told it was compulsory and it was part of your mortgage agreement, you complain to no-one.

Who sold it to you, when, was it a part of the mortgage deal?

No it is not, you have to make the claim, the bank may notify you that you may have been mis sold PPI and invite you to make a complaint but you have to have been mis sold to get compensation, the banks do not automatically pay out, a claim has to be made.
  • Just received an offer from HSBC, relating to PPI on my mortgage. It was a condition imposed on me, relating to a pre-existing injury I was suffering from at the time.

The bank rejected my initial complaint, but it was eventually upheld by the Financial Ombudsman. It has been a slow process, but worth the effort. They have offered me £4.5k, so I'm happy! I followed Martin's tips all the way through.

I'm currently seeing what I can get from an old credit card. I discovered PPI was in place, which I cancelled. It was imposed again at some point without my knowledge, which I only noticed a while later. I should have paid more attention to my statements, but I'll see if I can get any compensation out of them.
  • I had a iva that was satisfied at the time and now when reclaiming ppi have been told that we have to pay the debt....but this debt was agreed to at the time of satisfying the iva ?? is this right? They will send the interest though
