    Hello all,

    First post on here...

I telephoned RBS regarding a possible PPI claim a couple of weeks ago. They took some details off me and said they would investigate.
I received a letter last week saying that they have been unable to confirm precisely what information I was given at the time the policy was purchased.

They say that 'as a gesture of goodwill' they will offer me just over £640.00 as a refund for the insurance premiums plus interest. I have written back rejecting their offer and stating that I will accept £3500 to make the claim go away. I have also said that if there is no satisfactory conclusion to this then I will make a formal complaint to the Ombudsman as well as instructing my Solicitors.

Can anyone give me feedback as to what my chances are of them accepting my counter-offer or at least negotiating an increase?

Any handy tips would also be appreciated!

    Many Thanks,

    Tim

    Following on from the above...

RBS have called me today and explained their offer fully - basically repayment of the £14 that I had paid for PPI over the term of the loan (36 months). This amounts to £511.79. Their total offer, including interest, comes to £624.60.

Should I just accept this offer/repayment? I'm not being greedy and I do not want this to go on, but would I get anywhere if I took this further? - I think applying for SAR would just confirm what they have offered anyway.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Tim

First question - it doesn't look like they'll be accepting your negotiating offer, and it aslo doens't look like they'll be upping their offer, so acceptance is up to you.

Second question - No idea. If they can't identify what happened at the point of sale, and you can't, you are relying on the FOS identifying something and you will be waiting up to 18 months. Your call.

I wonder if anyone can give some advice? I have made a claim for ppi on 2 old barclaycards that I had in 1992. One was a Mastercard 1992 - 2001 and the other a Visa Gold card 1992-1999. Both had ppi on them but I had no idea about it until some-one at Barclays told me when I phoned them on an unrelated matter. Questionairres have been sent off but I wanted to know if my claim stood any chance at all as I am aware that Barclaycard only keep statements going back 6 years. I still bank with Barclays and have been with them for some 35 years so would that make any difference to Barclaycard being able to access details from 1992? I would never have needed ppi as I wasn't working back then as I had 2 small children. I vaguely remember being told that I couldn't have the cards without ppi due to my being a single parent.
Does anyone have an idea how this may go.
    Thanks

Last question, on the letter it says about telling hmrc my annual income is £5500 which I don't pay tax on, will I still be under my allowance with the 8% that they mention? My personal allowance is about 9k.

Following on from my successful claim last week from Egg (£4100) I contacted Barclay re my overdraft protection. I noticed this in a random statement from 2007 (£35 for one month + £11 account fee + £39 interest!) when I was trying to find some information from Egg. Questionnaire from Barclays didnt arrive so they sent another and this one was address to wrong person! So, I rang today to see if they have received it and check they had the correct name on record (even thoughI have been a customer for 20 years!). Told me they received questionnaire yesterday, but can confirm that they are upholding my complaint and I am to get a full refund!!!! :j Just calculating figures and they will send me an offer letter will details. Got another complaint for Barclays loan to finalise and then Santander (Mothercare card) to go. Again, a big thanks to MSE and all contibutors for the guidance in how to apply and the process involved!:D
  • It has taken over 2 years for barclaycard to accept i had been missold ppi. Initially i complained to them directly and they refused to accept that they had missold ppi to me.This in itself took 12 months! I didnt give up though and complained to the financial ombudsman. The complaint has taken another 12 months but finally i got the result i wanted and barclaycard are making me an offer. However this can take another 20 weeks!!! My advice to anyone who is in the same battle as me is dont give up!!! banks are not always rigjt and they hate pesky complainers like me!
