  • Got a pay out from santander from 2007 - in full plus interest.
On mortgage ppi - wrongfully sold (well oversold) as we proved we were over insured.
Took a couple of months, they lost 'paperwork' etc but kept ringing once a week to clarify - so if you're polite and record the dates you ring they deal with you.
Brilliant just got £4700 back - will come in handy to pay the dam Tax bill!!

My card was always used as I travel a lot and I would say there's never a time within that period where there was zero balance. I would say 70% of the time the balance was near to or just over £3000.
Had the same with MBNA but had the card half the time I had the Barclaycard..so around 6 years. I got £2400 which was more realistic. But..£2000 for a period of 14 years on a regularly used card seems a little low! I've not got statements (they should have these archived) and they should have sent me my SAR when I requested it, all they did was return the letter and cheque and send a letter stating I did have ppi and the date it was applied to the card.
Just hope they come back with a higher offer. I have taken it through the CEO.s office and I'm told by customer relations it has a 'priority' note on it to be re-looked at. Fingers crossed.

If a company submit the claim and lose.... you get nothing, ( never mind the £500 they used to entice you) a company cannot get you a win if you were not mis sold either.
Contact Santander, see if they can find your loan, if they can and you had PPI and were mis sold, put the claim in, you will have to do all of the above anyway so why pay a company to do it.

Thanks Amersall, but I think you're mistaken. The Forbes Douglas website says very clearly that if they submit my claim and lose, THEY will pay me £500. So as far I can see, if they win I pay them 25%, but if they lose, they pay me £500.

It's your money, you're completely entitled to throw it away.

  • My point is, if I'm going to use a claims company (which I'm still undecided about), then surely it makes sense to go with the only one that pays £500 if they lose my claim!

As has been mentioned, the only way this company is going to offer this £500 is if they look at the facts of your case and feel that it is an absolute watertight win. There is no way they are going to expose themselves to any real 'risk'. So, really, they are loaning you £500 of your own, inevitable, claim proceeds.

Now, if you find yourself desperately skint at this moment it might be a nice enough way of borrowing some of your own future money (though at high cost in reality see below).

But otherwise I would take a company's willingness to offer me this deal as a cast iron confidence you are going to win, and would instead be emboldened to do it myself and avoid paying them 25-30% of my redress - plus VAT!

Have been pursuing a PPI claim on behalf of my mother. Was a mis-sold policy with a store card (sold by somebody with no financial experience and told she had to have it to have the card). Original company had been taken over by Santander who rejected the claim and directed me to the original underwriter who also rejected it. Went to the Ombudsman and after a very long process due to the policy being sold before the market was regulated the underwriter eventually agreed to pay out. Has been 3 years but mother recently received confirmation of a pay out for almost £5500
