They can use it first against any debt you owe them. They may choose not to, but the likliehood is that they will.

Ok great thanks? That's fine. Anything to reduce my debt, though I suspect if I get any it will hardly make a dent!

    Hi Amersall,

Their response has just arrived, and I have question if don't mind. I had two loans with welcome. The first I took out and paid off in full very quickly, they have replied stating that as this account was cancelled and unwound within 1 month of inception it is not a valid account and rejected my complaint. Does this sound correct? I'd thought I would have paid off the ppi as well as the loan or am I mistaken?
The second loan they have upheld and offered full refund of £757.02 so that's the good part.
    Thank you in advance.

    :j Well done.

With the first loan, did you make the first payment or not?, if not then do you know what the original loan amount and PPI was and what the settlement figure was?.

On the one that they are upholding, does the amount they are giving you seem right?.

  • hi everyone, just had some rather disappointing news that halifax have rejected the 7 CREDIT CARD ACCOUNTS that we had unwittingly been paid PPI on. we didn't take them out online and was not informed that PPI was being sold to us AT ALL. frustrating is not even the word! they said that the reason they couldn't accept the claim was that there was "insufficient evidence".

i should also add that we have also discovered that we were paying PPI unwittingly on the mortgage (10 years) and another loan. they havent got back to us yet about this but it seems like its going to go the same way.

is going to the ombudsman a good idea? seems so unfair that they have said they have insufficient evidence when we werent even aware we were being sold the bloody ppi in the first place! i am disgusted with halifax and just want to see justice done now :(

thank you for all your help!

Please don't spam the forum with duplicate posts...

It's hardly surprising that your complaints about "unwittingly" paying PPI have been rejected. Credit card PPI appears on every monthly statement you will have had as a separate line. You will also have agreed to this insurance at some stage, though it's likely you've forgotten.

I think it unlikely you'll have any better result from "unwittingly" paying PPI on your mortgage since there will be very thorough documentation signed by you and showing you agreed to PPI.

The only unknown is your loan.

I can only say that you gave the weakest mis-selling complaint possible, you can't possibly prove your allegations but your lenders can point to plenty of evidence to counter your assertions.
