    :j Well done.

With the first loan, did you make the first payment or not?, if not then do you know what the original loan amount and PPI was and what the settlement figure was?.

On the one that they are upholding, does the amount they are giving you seem right?.

I've had a look at the breakdown for the upheld loan that all seems fine to me. Re the rejected I have no paperwork on this one , I now have the account number though as its on the rejection letter, I can't remember if I made the first months payment or not ( it was 2003/4) but if I can get a copy of my agreement from welcome I have the credit agreement for the loan I took out to pay welcome off!! (I know)
So I could see how long after taking it out , I paid I off , but that's providing welcome will still have and supply a copy of the agreement. If I did pay the payments even just the one before paying it off does that mean I can take it further? Shall I SAR this account?

As for blond moments.... They are an increasingly regularly occurrence!

    Thank you again.

Agreements are not available for closed or settled accounts.

You can send a SAR, but it's over six years ago so may not return anything useful.

Welcome have said that this account was wound up within one month, I would ask for the info they have regarding this as they made their judgement based on this.

Ask Welcome to show you the info they got this wound up loan from and what the loan and PPI cost and what the settlement figure was, they may be correct, but if I were you, I would like to know for sure, if you made just one payment to this loan and PPI, it is possible you repaid PPI back in settlement after the rebate for early settlement.

The rebate for a month would have been substantial and there may not be a lot to get back, even so, it is better in your pocket than theirs, if you did not make a payment to this loan then that is ok, if you paid back just the loan amount and no PPI or more interest, then at least you will know.

A Sar may not get you anything due to the year, as moneyineptitude said, Welcome must have made the decision on this loan based on something, ask them to show you this.

Did you take the other loan with Welcome to repay the other?.

Thanks for that , it can't hurt to ask to see the information they've used to make their decision. I do recall that I had to pay back a lot more than I had borrowed to settle the loan , but I think that's standards when settling early?
In answer to your other question, no I didn't get the other welcome loan to clear the first, I took a loan from another company , thinking in my wisdom (not) that I'd got a better interest rate and was being shrewd only to go crawling back to welcome a year later for another loan! Anyway lessons learnt a long time ago , I'm sure I made a payment, maybe more than one.
I'll call welcome and see what they say, should I wait and not sign the acceptance slip until I've cleared this up or will it not matter as its two different accounts.
    Thanks agin for your guidance.:)

You are Welcome :D pardon the pun :rotfl:

If you made any payments at all, you will have paid some PPI back in the settlement figure.

You can accept the one they upheld but write on the acceptance that you are asking for further info regarding the other from Welcome and make a copy.
  • Thank you so much for the advise on how to claim PPI, i have had 4 successful claims, that have basically saved me from a life of debt, it was so easy to fill the form in and look at the reasons that I was possibly miss sold. I would urge anyone that thinks they have a claim to follow the advice on this site:T:o:o

Do what the ombudsman told you to do.

It is a big IF, they will not do a claim that will end up costing them money.
I can't see how they, or anybody else, can know in advance what the outcome will be. I've looked at the ombudsman website and they only upheld 60% of PPI complaints last year.

    :) No!

And they charge the fee of 35% plus Vat on any reduction on a loan PPI that is still running and has to be reset, they win twice as this could mean you save 1000 on the loan reduction, only to pay them the fee for this as well as on the redress .
    Excellent company !.
Their fee is 25% plus VAT, not 35% and it's only on cash you actually receive - unless I've missed something?

    Do the claim your self.
Despite the above, I'm going to take a gamble and do it myself!
