we made a claim on an old MBNA card (1998-2003) we completed the form from this site and within 4 weeks had cheque for nearly £7000. We recently found paperwork in the loft relating to a 4 year loan we took out in 1998 with chartered trust which we were told we could not have unless we took out single ppi. I wrote to Black Horse end of January 2013 and recd a letter on Monday offering us £5,500 with tax deducted0

on the downside I made a claim to Lloyds TSB in Dec 2011 recorded delivery. In Feb 2012 I rang for update and was told they had no record. They asked me a few basic questions about why I was claiming but were not interested in tracing my original request. I recd a reply in April rejecting my complaint based on what I had provided in my phone call. I appealed against this wrote a letter and sent copy of original claim form by recorded delivery. When I rang for update in May 12 was told again no record of receipt. I referred my case to the FSO. In October 2012 I recd a letter from Lloyds referring to the letter I sent in April 12 and again rejecting my claim. The FOS in Feb 2013 advised me that they had written to Lloyds with an initial assessment upholding my complaint and that they had till 18 March to agree or provide further information as to why they disagree. To date no response. is anyone else in this situation ?0

Unles you have your own statements to check, who knows?
Your only option is to refer to the FOS but as you are alleging missale from 24 years ago, your chances are slim.
As they have already made a small payment out on this card, surely they have already admitted to mis-selling. MBNA sent me a copy of the original paperwork . If it was on every statement we have, dating to 2002 ,do they not assume it may have been paid since 1989? When I was able to show Barclays I had had PPI on an old loan but no available paperwork they made me a"goodwill gesture" offer.
Wonder if FOS is worth trying but they are so bogged down with work.0 -

No, it just means they have auto-paid instead of investigating.
If you have no evidence or can't prove you didn't need it at the point of sale from 24 years ago, thren your chances are slim, but if you do refer it, expect to wait up to 18 months.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I had a loan with Abbey National some years back and I'm pretty sure it had PPI. I've found a claims company online called Forbes Douglas who offer a guarantee to pay £500 if they don't win your claim. I know I'll have to pay them some of my compensation if they win, but if I submit a claim myself and lose then I'll get nothing (which happened to a friend). My question is, does anybody know if there's any companies that offer a bigger guarantee?0

No there aren't.
And you can be sure that unless they think your complaint is worth a lot of money they won't be accepting your business.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -

The only guarantee using a claims company is that you'll pay up to 30% (plus VAT) of any redress you are awarded. If your complaint is not upheld the result is always the same, you'll get nothing.
This company will refuse to accept your complaint unless it is a cast iron certainty that your concerns will be upheld.0 -
New to this, but thought I would share my story, I will try to be brief.
I had a Marbles Credit Card, (Currently administered by Halifax) which had been ordered over the internet in around 2001. It came with PPI, which I cancelled in 2006, as I realised I didn't need it and it was quite expensive when the bill was high! I decided to close the account in 2011. Following the advice on this site, I used the template letter, and applied for T & C's in 2012, and received a fairly prompt reply to advise me that there were not available as the account was closed. I then completed the questionnaire and sent this in, along with copies of 59 statements I had managed to save before shredding them!
I received a letter within a week or so, stating my claim was being looked at, and should take no more than 8 weeks. I received another letter to state it might take longer due to a backlog, which was about 2 weeks ago. Today i received a letter to state that they will not uphold my complaint, however, they will be refunding me the premiums paid, which comes to just over £442. To be paid by cheque. Got to say I was quite delighted with this result as I didn't expect anything, due to it being an internet application. This only took me one letter and one questionnaire and around 3 months waiting. It's well worth applying as it appears they will refund premiums paid up to around 6 years old, although my query pre-dated this. I had only estimated premiums paid of around £280 so to get £442 back is a nice little result.0 -
After reading a lot of the posts on here for some time I decided to chase up Lloyds for my PPI.
After moving so much I had lost all the loan details, until I found a Lloyds bank card in an old wallet:D
I must say my loans are in arrears so even if they just took the money off what I owe it would be a bonus.
I am happy to say that today I received 2 cheques for a combined total of £3854.54
The whole process has taken just 2 months, and cost me about £2 in phone calls.
I'm now going to look into a mates finances to see if he can get back his PPI he believes he had to take out on his mortgage.
Thank you to everyone who has used this thread for giving me the kick up the backside I needed to get the PPI process rolling.:money:0
