Two successful ppi complaints to date, 5 still pending:-

M&S- goodwill offer accepted of £256.00 Dec 2012
Barclaycard- complaint upheld full refund plus interest total £245.52.

Not massive amounts but every little helps !! Thank you MSE for the advice, templates etc.:)
  • We put in a claim based on martins template to HSBC for missold ppi on mortgage loans. We received a reply earlier this week saying we had been unsuccessful to which we immediately replied stating our discontent and intention to go to ombudsman. The following day we received another letter saying we had been successful and included an offer. Yay! It seems there's were two separate issues and they had split them without informing us. My question is whether to accept the offer as there is no breakdown of how they reached the figure and we don't have all the original paperwork to check back on. My inclination is to ask for a breakdown bearing in mind our now mistrust of these institutions, but my partner is a bit fearful that they may withdraw or reduce the offer. Any thoughts?

Which is why you should have sent a SAR to start with.

But, they won't retract the offer if you ask for a breakdown, it might just take longer to receive it. Unless they have already sent a cheque in which case, they may ignore your letter anyway.

Certainly - started my claim verbally first week of February, and they wrote to me with ombudsman forms few days later & said they'd have decision by 8th - 10th April, can't remember the exact date but it was due by start of next week.

Hi I wonder if anyone could help me, a few weeks ago I read something on here about PPI. It was saying that PPI was automatically added pre nineteen ninety something I think. The reason I am asking for help is RBS have just said no but I have had the card from the early 80s and just wondered if this could be a road I could maybe go down.
  • I can report two successes. The first with Citibank was straightforward. I applied for a credit card in 2003 when I was self-employed. PPI was added. I wrote to Citibank and they replied quickly, upholding my claim and compensating me to the value of 2000 including interest. The second with Liverpool Victoria ( a loan this time 2002-2005) was claimed because LV had ticked the box on my credit agreement and asked me to verify that it was appropriate for my circumstances (being self-employed it wasn't). I still signed (in those days I skimmed small-print) but they found in my favour and a cheque for 2500 was sent. My final claim is a tougher nut to crack. MBNA! I had a credit card from 1998-2005 and for the most part wasn't self-employed. I paid my £1 to get a copy of my application form and I can see that I have specifically circled 'no' for PPI (or Payment Protection Cover as they call it). I have most of my statements and I can see that PPI was added and amounts to close to 7000 over that period. I do not have a copy of the credit agreement but I think that as I specifically circled 'no' I think I have a valid claim?

I am pleased to report that MBNA have upheld my claim. As, the experts on this site say, they do not give a reason why but the letter does tell me that the reason I thought validated my claim - that I ticked the 'no' box on the written application form - was not the reason the claim was upheld. The records showed that PPI was added about six months after the application. I did send them plenty of evidence of insurance policies, PEPs (this was the 1990's), share holdings etc. and I suspect I was able to prove that I did not need it. That being so I have learnt that it is worth keeping every bit of paperwork relating to finance.

A word about MBNA, who get a lot of criticism. I have to say that from the beginning they have been excellent. They always kept me informed - usually weekly - of progress, even where there was an initial delay and when asking for additional information from me. Let's hope the good service continues and the cheque arrives within the stated 28 days!
