  • Hi, me and my husband have taken out several loans/credit cards and martgages over the last 25 years, most of which have been setteld and as a result I don't have the paperwork.
I registered with a 30 days free trial for a credit report to get some of the details but am only able to get, for instance the last 4 digits of the account number and the date of which they were took out and settled.
I have started to write the appropriate people with the details I have, but am starting to get letters back saying they don't have enough details to complete my request for information. Are they just trying to put me off or is there any other way of getting details of agreements you no longer have the paperwork for?

    thanks
    • What were you reclaiming: personal loan over 10 years
    • Who was the provider: Natwest
    • How much did you get back: £7000
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: form sent to the bank

I was doubtful that I would get anything back after this amount of time, my loan had been paid off in June 2012. The PPI sold to me was a single premium added to my personal loan at the beginning. I filled out the form found on Natwest's own website (the same format as that used by the Financial Ombudsman) after reading as much as I could on MSE I was persuaded that it was worth a try. I did have my original paperwork so I sent copies of that with the form at the end of November 2012. I received notification of a “goodwill offer” of a refund of the original premium, plus the interest I had paid on that amount, and the statutory interest of 8% of the total on the 10th January, which I accepted straight away and have received payment today. I don't know whether that means that my claim was upheld, or too long ago to be able to argue that it wasn't mis-sold, but I am not going to query that! I am really pleased to have taken the plunge and filled in the form, without the encouragement of the posters on MSE I would have not bothered.
Thank you to everyone who has posted their story:beer:

  • Hi. I am new to this forum but not to the website. I used the advice and the forms available on the website to submit my claim to MBNA back in October. I received a letter to say they would deal with the claim in 28 days. When I heard nothing in that period I called them and they said that they had requested other information but I had not received any letters requesting this information. He then took the information over the phone and said that the claim had been closed and he would now re-open it. I received the standard letter again saying that they would deal with it in 28 days. Then I received a letter with a copy of the questionnaire from the FOS and was told to complete this and return it for a full investigation. I had already completed this questionnaire for the first part of the complaint so I called MBNA today to ask whether I should submit this again and they told me that they have sent a letter in the post refusing my claim. They have told me the reason is that I ticked the box for PPI on my application form. Is there anything I can do now or is this the end of the PPI claim???? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

ty and im not 100% sure as dh is the one who dealt with it as they were all in his name... He has been in a secure job when the loans were taken out, sickness etc would have been paid for for 6 months, if redundancy would have happened the payout would have been more than the loans......without asking him i don't know though sorry. shall question him when he's home from work.

  • What were you reclaiming: personal loan that was settled nearly 6 years ago
Who was the provider: Sainsbury's Finance
How much did you get back: £5,410.72
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Letter & form sent to provider

After reading all the tips on here, I wasn't even sure if I'd had PPI on my past loan. I didn't even have any paperwork from it, as it was settled nearly 6 years ago.
I obtained a copy of my Credit Report and then wrote to the provider, Sainsbury's Finance, with as much detail as I could.
They promptly wrote back to me, giving me the account number and informed me that it did have PPI. They also informed me that they hadd passed my complint to Royal Bank of Scotland, who backed their loans etc.
After about 6-7 weeks I got a letter from Royal Bank of Scotland saying that they would uphold my complaint.
I wasn't really sure what to expect or if I would get anything.
Thanks for all the tips & advice.
    HAPPY DAYS!
  • i wanted to write as a few people (regulars) of the forums had said my chances were slim... and made me feel silly, like i was doing it for the hell of it not because of genuine mis selling!

i claimed on behalf of my partner (who was going to use a claim company) so i volenteered to do it, it was so EASY!!! took an hour or two and a stamp!

he applied for a loan in 2005 for £5000. he was told because of his age he would not be accepted unless he applied for ppi. he was sold in person at a barclays branch. the ppi was for £1759.

we sent the claim letter on the 19th november and about 2weeks after, they replied by letter to say they had recieved the claim and were looking into it. they wrote that they will reach a decision by the 5th of january and contact us.

well on boxing day we were feeling the pinch of xmas and he checked his bank ballance. to his utter shock he found £2557 had been sitting in his account for a week!!!!! £1759 ppi repayment and the rest was interest :)

and on the 10th of january we got the letter though to confirm!

i just wanted to say, dont be disheartened if some people on here say you have no chance (because of no verbal proof) or anything else. every case is different.

and would like to say to those forum regulars not to bully some people. our case was genuine, i know there are people out there lying or bending the truth to get 'free' money.... but dont forget some people are honest and just want back what is thiers! how can you judge when youve never met a person!
my partner worked 2 jobs to pay off that loan.... he would have managed better without having to repay the extra ppi! the bank cant take away the stress of those years!

    goodluck :)
  • Hi I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me. I stupidly signed up to PPI Advice Line reclaiming my mis-sold PPI in August/Sept 2011.

I received an unbelievable bill through (not what the man sold it to me as) and I have been asking them to provide me with a copy of the signed terms and conditions they say I agreed to which detail their charges. When they didn't provide this by December 2011, I called and it was mutually agreed they wouldn't do any work for me anymore.

Then they just carried on so I emailed (as they told me to) to confirm everything and log my complaint. I still maintained if they just sent me a copy of my signature next to these charges, then I would just pay them. They then still carried on writing to me as if working on my behalf and I carried on calling through 2011.

I've phoned 6 times since November 2011 and no one ever calls me back but then I keep getting letters.

Now I've received a cancellation invoice today for £2000! This is really stressing me out now and I know I was stupid to sign up to them but I just don't know how to try and deal with this when I've done everything I can since 2011!

Any help would be really appreciated.
