What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI (loan taken out in 2003 repaid in 2004.
Who was the provider: Sainsburys Bank
How much did you get back: £1,030.
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I sent a brief e-mail and then returned the Ombudsman forms. Cheque just came through in the post out of the blue 6 weeks after first complaining.
  • First time post on here, but long time admirer of the site and Martin's various tips etc.

Having seen some of the successes of other people on this site, I sent off four PPI claims to the following banks: MBNA, HFC, GE First National and Bank of Scotland.

The Bank of Scotland even having been provided a Mortgage Account number stated that the number is not their's even though proof of the account was sent with the claim forms. This one will be dragging on.

GE First National I am still waiting to hear back from as this involved a third party broker, who has a claim pending with too. But GE First National admitted that they had also took out a second PPI on this loan without any permission from either my Wife or I, so I look forward to their response in relation to this one.

MBNA upheld my complaint and on Friday 21/12/2012 I received a cheque for £681.65 from them

Also on Friday 21/12/2012 I received a letter from HFC informing me that they had also upheld my complaint regarding the mis-selling of PPI, and that they would be offering me just over £8300.

I have obviously accepted this offer, and HFC received my letter of acceptance on Xmas Eve. Just wondering how long it will take now for them to process my refund direct into my bank account

I have to say that wihtout this site and the stories contained within the forums, I would never have bothered to claim these back. So a massive thanks to everyone here !!

I took out a loan with barclays in 2009 which will end in 2014. I am not even sure if they charge ppi as I have lost all the documents. I had not even thought about claiming yet. But going through some of the threads, I am thinking of calling them to see what my situation is. But while the loan is ongoing, can I claim it and what will happen to the rest of the term period?

If you complain you don't need the ppi or it was missold, then they will cancel it if it's not single premium.
If it is single premium, and your complaint is upheld, they will re-calculate the loan without the PPI and you will pay a different amount, and may have some money back, or at least a reduced payment on the loan.
If you then realise you may need PPI on the loan to cover unemployment etc, then you can shop around for insurance yourself, or re-negotiate a monthyl PPI payment with your bank.
There are too many variables to go into more detail.

  • Hello all.

I made a PPI claim against HSBC last month and recieved an offer in the post today for £4,500. I'm in a DMP with stepchange and HSBC have stated that the sum "will be used to reduce the outstanding debt held with HSBC". The acceptance return form states that the money will be paid to Metropolitan Collection Services Ltd.
This is all well and good. I have no issue with the money being used to reduce my debt. However, the debt has long since changed hands and currently resides with Direct Legal & Collections and not with HSBC or MCS.

Does anyone know if DL&C are part of HSBC? if not then do I have the right to request that the money be sent to DL&C or, at the very least, stepchange?

    Many thanks.

It doesnt matter if the company has changed. The trail leads from one to the other. Whether it is one hop, two hops or more. Companies buy other companies all the time and accept their liabilities and assets and contracts signed.
