  • Hi all

I have a complaint in with Santander. This is for a past Dorothy Perkins Store card.

They have written to me today with a copy of the original card application form. This was signed in June 1999. I didnt graduate from University until July 1999. So techinically was a student at the time. I have signed next to the part of the form that says 'Account Cover'. On reading the explanation of Account Cover it says it is to cover purchases (if lost, or found to be cheaper after purchase) and also income protection.

They are asking for proof that I was not working at the time so I am now just about to do a letter to National Insurane people for proof of NI contributions for the year 1999. They are also saying that they didnt have to record the way policies were sold at this time.

Basically I am just wanting to know if anyone has had any success in an instance like this? They are saying that it would have been on my statements and had the right to cancel at anytime.....blah blah blah.

Can I get them on the fact that the purchase protection was lumped in with the Income Protection? ie if I cancelled one lost the other?
I was hoping all would be as easy as HSBC!
    Thanks for any help

That close it doesnt matter. What did your occupation say on the application? How big is the gap between being a student and working?

Which is a valid comment and can weaken many complaints.

It depends on the gap between student and working. Short gap could easily be that you finished study and were starting employment. Long gap works in your favour. Hence why they are asking for evidence.

My hubby just got over £2k from rbs, along with mine thats just over £9k
  • Have finally lost patience with Barclays and emailed CEO with the comedy of errors so far....
initial claim sent on 9th August rejected on the grounds no PPI on account, I reminded them I had sent a statement in with the complaint, turns out they had scanned my statement onto someones else's account. Was told it would be reopened, it wasn't, called again yes we will reopen it, called again not reopened, called again guess what (I know you are seeing a theme by now :rotfl:) not reopened, finally reopened on the 25th Oct. Called today for an update to be told a letter is in the post telling me that they have assigned someone to look at it and there is no timescale!!!

Have given CEO until close of business on Monday to reply to my email, if no reply then will presume failings in the company go right to the top!!!

Will keep you posted on any/if any reply

Just thought I would pop in here to let everyone know that I have had a success from my Capital One claim. Only a small amount but it did take them 16 weeks so anyone else waiting to hear just be patient and cross your fingers. It will certainly help towards my Xmas for my grankiddies as I was worrying I wouldn't be able to but them anything this year.

i used your guidelines and applied to reclaim for the 3 Natwest loans i have had since 2001. 2 weeks after sending the original forms i had £6688.00 in my account :)

think it may have helped that i had my original loan document with the tick box opting into the PPI unticked but i still got chraged!

cheeky blighters..... would advse anyone to reclaim, even if you didnt opt in like me as you may have still be charged!

    good luck
  • What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
Who was the provider: NRAM (Northern Rock)
How much did you get back: £1550
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Phonecall then Form

    Hi,

I've just had a successful PPI claim for an unsecured loan with Northern Rock (now NRAM). The loan was taken out alongside a mortgage I had with them from 2003 to 2007.

My initial contact was a phonecall with NRAM and then the insurance company that handled the PPI. They game me all the details of what I had paid and when, since the paperwork has been lost between house moves. It was news to me that I had paid PPI since I normally make a point of not getting it.

Phoning NRAM again I lodged the complaint and was told I would get a letter to recognise my complaint along with a form to give more details. I was told that the process would take 12 weeks to reach a decision on my case.

Four weeks later, an Ombudsman form arrived for me to fill in, which I returned within a couple of days.

After the 12 weeks had passed, I had not heard anything else so phoned in to check the progress. The claim was 'still under investigation' because they had a backlog.

I phoned once a week for the next few weeks, getting the same response (or no response!). I did eventually get to speak to the case handler who explained that they were swamped with claims and were trying to train more staff to handle them - which was slowing the process even more. He told me my claim had been marked as urgent, but even the urgent pile had a large backlog.

Earlier this week, after around 20 weeks from the initial complaint, I received a letter awarding me a refund plus interest. I returned the signed acceptance the same day.

Does anyone know if NRAM take the full 28 working days to issue the refund cheque or do they turn it around quicker (or slower) than that?

I'll be trying to reclaim some HSBC fees next!

I got a letter through last week regarding my Dorothy Perkins card also from 1999 and my complaint was upheld :-)

My complaint was through Genworth who were the underwriters of the policy.

Hope this helps and good luck!

It should be around 2 weeks, my friend received hers last month within that time scale.
  • Three or so months after following the excellent advice available on this site about reclaiming PPI for my mother, I today received a letter from Lloyds TSB saying that they had upheld her complaint and will be refunding her £3899 within 28 days.

Many thanks to everyone who helped us. It's a great early Christmas prezzie for her.
