Just a quick lesson to you all - having read all about these claims I decided to have a go. I had taken out a loan with HFC in 1998, which was about £10k to clear all credit cards. This loan came with a cheque book, and about 4 years later I added to the loan (or topped it up towards the upper limit). Each month I paid an element of interest, and element of capital and a PPI premium.
I am still paying it back, but thought that because it was more than 6 years old couldn't do anything. I read that this wasn't the case so decided to claim. At that time I was approached by a PPI company so decided to use them as I felt too busy to spend the time (YES I KNOW!!!) - they weren't interested because the start was too far back and the person on the end of the phone said that wouldn't be claimable.
So following your easy steps I went through the claim procedure and have just received HFC's offer - £32+k!!!!!

It took a little time to fill out the form, and they wrote back to advise that due to the number of claims things would take a few weeks, but then contacted me with the offer after about 4 weeks.

Unbelieveable!! And this is after they settle the last £3k of the loan too!

Take this lesson folks - it is easy to claim, it doesn't take time, and YOU DON'T NEED A CLAIM FIRM!

Congrats on ure redress. I have successfully claimed from hfc for a second loan with them in 2005. This loan topped up my first loan with them. They said they had no record of first one and if I could give them an agreement they would investigate. I haven't got any agreement and over the phone they said they couldn't help. They could give me an account number but that was it. Did u send an agreement? I can remember how sold etc...

    What were you reclaiming: Loan

Who was the provider: A&L (Santander)

How much did you get back: Just over £2k

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One Letter to Santander

And then write your brief reclaim tale
Took out a car loan in 2003, had front loaded PPI. Single letter along with FOS questionnaire, got result in just over 4 weeks.

Brings running PPI reclaim balance to £13,600.....

    Hi Guys

Good news everyones having these success stories.

Im claiming back ppi from Halifax at the moment for 5 loans. I had an offer for £2500 for 2 of these loans and the other 3 have been rejected.

I was missold ppi due to being told i should take the ppi out so slight pressure tactics, also wasnt made fully aware what ppi was and wasnt informed you could get ppi from other companies.

All loans have been taken from the same branch just over a 11 year period, so still not sure why 3 had been rejected and 2 not?.

Im very happy that i got £2500 back but im going to send a letter disbuting the other 3. Is there a template letter for the second letter that youd recommend me using?

I did recieve the cheques today but no other information saying why the other 3 had been rejected which they said i would get.

    Thanks

    Dom

Just spoken to Halifax via phone as the letter they sent with the cheques didn't have the loan number to which the claims had been accepted.
I discussed my issues on the phone and made them aware i was unhappy about the 3 being rejected and she escalated the complaint over the phone instead of my resending a letter, Should i still send a letter in writing?.

    Thanks

As I've already explained, there is no point requesting the Bank re-consider their "full and final" response unless you can provide compelling new evidence. The Bank will simply reiterate their rejection of your complaint. Your complaint cannot be "escalated" at the Bank once they have already considered your concerns. The person you spoke to on the 'phone does not actually consider your complaints, she's the telephone operator!
Your time would be better spent referring your complaint to the Ombudsman now, as this process takes a year or more.
I realise I'm posting information you don't want to hear, so as ever it's your own call as to how you proceed.

There is no such template, since a "second letter" is not part of the complaint process.
    Here's the correct next complaint stage;

    Hi

Hope someone can advise. I recently complained to the Halifax about missold PPI on my mortgage, the bank have agreed ti refund me 4365.00, however when I have recieved a breakdown of what I am getting. The letter also shows I have critical illness cover of which I have no memory of aggreeing to. apparently I had two elements of cover, PPI and critical illness cover. I always had one payment leave my account.

Can I complain about this product been misold to me. what should I do?

    hi sally
we put a claim in with scottish widows over critical illness but they turned it down and gave us chapter and verse of why.me i feel we were stiched up big style but we have not got the get up and go to through it again so my advice would be that however wronged you may feel i would forget it .RATS OFF YEA BIG STYLE BUT I THINK THEY HAVE THE UPPER HAND ON THIS ONE SADLY.3 HOURS PLUS OF PRESENTATION/HARD SELL WE WERE SUBJECTED TO AND LOST THE WILL TO LIVE SO WE SIGNED IT WHAT A REGRETFUL DECISION THAT WAS STILL LIFE GOES ON COST US OVER £14500 OVER SEVEN YEARS IN PAYMENTS.OH WELL ITS ONLY MONEY

I also received my cheque from Littlewoods catalogue, dealt with by ShopDirect.

They only confirmed this a few days ago, was expecting the cheque to take 21 days, but surprisingly it arrived today.

    Well chuffed.

    Update to previous post!!

    What were you reclaiming:
    Loan

    Who was the provider: Egg

How much did you get back: £4,700

Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: One Letter to Egg

And then write your brief reclaim tale
Finally got my cheque - it took 3 months, not 3 weeks as stated in my letter from Egg. I had emailed and called all sorts of people at Citi and they just ignored me completely until 5 days before the cheque arrived.

    Funny that............

  • Happy post alert! Happy post alert! Happy post alert!

Some while ago I tentatively approached these threads with the intention of asking for any recommendations as to a Claims Handler. I had a secured loan with Welcome Finance, paid off in 2005. I had no paperwork.

Within half hour of posting I was given much appreciated support and encouragement so much so I stopped panicking, calmed myself down and put it all together with the help of Amersall (in particular, many others too) - I truly felt I could take on the world - and today I have happily logged in here to tell you all that I have indeed achieved this (well its as good a feeling as), lol.

This morning I have received a letter from Welcome upholding my claim and offering me £3,398.89 in settlement.

    Woohoo!

So from what once felt hopeless (negative press towards Welcome), no paperwork, a dubious start date of loan (2003 was it/was it not covered by FOS) - just a few phone calls, a few sheets of paper and the cost of special delivery - I am going to have a lovely Christmas and a worry free new year.

Now I can put right things that are important to me, in particular finalise my precious late daughter's memorial stone, and replace some knackered winter boots but best of all I have successfully kicked the !!! of Welcome Finance!

Just to summarise - you can DO IT!

Good point - on the football forum I post on, they have an off topic forum and I've been banging on for weeks that if anyone is thinking of making a claim to do it themselves.

The trouble is, I think many of the people that use CMC's simply aren't aware that you can do it yourself so as you say it's best to spread the word as much as possible. I didn't know myself 6 months ago but luckily I'd not even considered making a claim until someone tipped me off back in June about doing it myself and telling me about this website. 2 blokes at work have had claims upheld recently but both went through a CMC.
If the 2 blokes at work will tell you how much they got and how much the fees were I would use these as an example (added together for anoniminity) of how much you loose by using a CMC.
