What were you reclaiming: Ppi on bank loans
    Who was the provider: RBS
How much did you get back: £7141
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: one phone call

I am stunned, i applied for 2 loans, actually only one of them i said had been missold but the chap said to apply for both. I called maybe 10 days ago, and have 4 seperate offers from the bank.
  • Hi I have just received my cheque for £6400 from first Plus: They sent me the form as they said they may have mis sold me, filled form in 2 weeks later had a letter to say they couldn't prove they hadn't mis sold and so would send the amount if I signed to say I agreed with amount. Sent off signed letter and 4 weeks later (as they said it would be) received cheque, which is now in the bank. Must admit really surprised and pleased with the outcome. Have now written to 2 other companies and am waiting to hear from them.
:j Claimed £6400 PPI some more to go :j

I didnt send off a questionaire, did it over the phone! The man asked why i thought it was missold, i told him i recalled the one we werent able to get the loan without taking it, and as the loan after that didnt have it we were obviously given a choice regarding it. That was it! We had no idea how much ppi we had paid, so the amounts they calculated were goodwill gestures, thats what they called them in the letter, and tbh this isnt money we "missed" as such so its a lovely bonus that will pay for my new kitchen! My husband had one loan too but he hasnt even had aknowledgement of his letter yet!
  • Just a quick lesson to you all - having read all about these claims I decided to have a go. I had taken out a loan with HFC in 1998, which was about £10k to clear all credit cards. This loan came with a cheque book, and about 4 years later I added to the loan (or topped it up towards the upper limit). Each month I paid an element of interest, and element of capital and a PPI premium.
I am still paying it back, but thought that because it was more than 6 years old couldn't do anything. I read that this wasn't the case so decided to claim. At that time I was approached by a PPI company so decided to use them as I felt too busy to spend the time (YES I KNOW!!!) - they weren't interested because the start was too far back and the person on the end of the phone said that wouldn't be claimable.
So following your easy steps I went through the claim procedure and have just received HFC's offer - £32+k!!!!!

It took a little time to fill out the form, and they wrote back to advise that due to the number of claims things would take a few weeks, but then contacted me with the offer after about 4 weeks.

Unbelieveable!! And this is after they settle the last £3k of the loan too!

Take this lesson folks - it is easy to claim, it doesn't take time, and YOU DON'T NEED A CLAIM FIRM!

Over the last couple of days i have received offers for 2 of the 5 claims i currently have :j

    1/ Offer from Central Trust ~ £6136
This was a shock, as i had only had the loan for 1 year, but when i took out the second loan and paid the first one off, the ppi was left to run! This claim was all done over the phone and took 8 weeks.

    2/ Offer from MBNA ~ £277
Completed a questionnaire, took 6 weeks!

This windfall couldn't have come at a better time. We had to borrow some money off a family member a couple of months ago to pay for repairs on our leaking roof, we'll now be able to pay that back plus clear some other debts :D

Christmas!! :santa2: Bring it on :rotfl:
    LBM 01/01/11
We WILL be debt free :)
    Grabbit Reject

    Amazing :j:T
Your right it's not difficult tick a few boxes on a form, sign it & post it, can't understand why people use these claim firms, just think you would have paid them easily £10k!!!
  • £9,000 refund!

In 2004 I took out a loan withNorthern Rock. When I’d almost finishedthat loan I added another loan to it and did the same again a few yearslater. So I had 3 loans altogether whichfinished in 2009.

I’ve had numerous phone calls fromcompanies offering to claim back PPI, all of which I rejected as I didn’t fancypaying them commission.

But after reading MoneysavingexpertI decided to try and claim back some PPI myself. I downloaded and printed offthe claims template forms from this site, filled them in and send them off toNorthern Rock. That was on 21st September 2012. I thought, That’sit, I won’t hear from them again.

What a surprise I had this morning! I had a letter informing me that they aregoing to refund me £9,000!!! I’m stillin shock.

Thank you most sincerely MSE foryour very rewarding advice.

For anybody thinking about puttingin a claim – DO IT NOW.

Lots of us on here have read all of the success stories and the fact you dont need to use a claim company. What we all need to be doing is spreading the word far and wide at any chance we have.

If we all managed to get one person to claim and even 50% suceeded that would be 10,000s people possibly getting a nice christmas present.:A

  • In the last week I've had a claim against RBS upheld for front-loaded PPI added to a chain of 3 loans taken out between 1997 and 2000. After the taxman has taken his share I've received around £4800. This is to go with the £3400 or so (after tax) I received from MBNA a few weeks back. Most of the money has gone to pay down personal credit card debt and I'm now hoping to be debt-free (apart from my mortgage) by the end of next year, something that would've been impossible if I hadn't received these pay-outs.

There were 5 other, smaller, loans I took out with RBS in 1995 and 1996 but their records don't show whether PPI was paid on them or not - I'm quite sure it was but without proof at my end it looks like I've not much chance of getting anything back on those but all in all I'm not complaining.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice on here and also a huge thanks to the friend that pointed me in the direction of this website in the first place:)

Good point - on the football forum I post on, they have an off topic forum and I've been banging on for weeks that if anyone is thinking of making a claim to do it themselves.

The trouble is, I think many of the people that use CMC's simply aren't aware that you can do it yourself so as you say it's best to spread the word as much as possible. I didn't know myself 6 months ago but luckily I'd not even considered making a claim until someone tipped me off back in June about doing it myself and telling me about this website. 2 blokes at work have had claims upheld recently but both went through a CMC.
