My bank - Lloyds TSB - contacted me in August, trying to sell me a loan.
On the phone, the branch manager said she noticed I'd been with the bank for many years and had taken out loans. She asked if I'd ever tried to claim for PPI mis-sold. I hadn't. She encouraged me, stating that the bank are trying to settle claims directly with customers (rather than through third party companies) and are trying to do so quickly.
I called the number she gave me, and after a ten minute conversation I was told I'd hear the outcome in around six weeks. This was on the basis of having told the operator that I also pay income protection and wouldn't have taken out any PPI had I understood things better AND that I had no paperwork.
I've been a LTSB customer since I was 12, and all credit has been through them.
I've been waiting to hear the outcome, and when I checked my bank account online this morning I saw a payment for nearly £22,000! I called the LTSB number and they confirmed this was correct and that I should receive a letter confirming the amount shortly.
I'd never considered claiming as I'm awful at retaining paperwork and have no evidence of my previous credit. This has not hindered my claim though. I wouldn't have bothered had someone from the bank not called in August and mentioned that it was worth a try!0 -

What were you reclaiming: Credit card PPI
Who was the provider: HFC
How much did you get back: £392.72
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Template questionnaire on here.
And then write your brief reclaim tale... Had put in claims for credit cards and loan with other providers and vaguely remembered having a CC with Marbles from 2002 through to 2010, didn't even really remember whether it had PPI or not, but thought might as well go for it. Only had partial account number. Sent off form at end of August. Today I received a letter from HFC saying they were unable to uphold my complaint. They then go on to say that 'notwithstanding the above, and without prejudice, a business decision has been made to uphold all remaining PPI premiums'. They have given me a full breakdown of the payments I made in PPI and have paid me back in full. I know it's not a huge amount, but to be honest I didn't think I would get anything, so I am one happy bunny today. Just waiting on husband's Cap one card claim (not holding out much hope for that one) and Natwest loan claim; of which we have been told we will be receiving 7 letters from them within the next 10 days!
It is due to the help and support this forum gives us that I have been able to claim my PPI back without the need to use a claims company0 -
What were you reclaiming: Personal loan PPI
Who was the provider: First Direct
How much did you get back: £2443.61
Contacted bank in August to ask if I had ever had PPI. They freely volunteered info. I had had a loan in 1994 with ppi. They supplied acount number. I sent template from here 20th August. Received offer today, 8 weeks up tomorrow. Very pleased and impressed by First Direct's handling.
Like many others, found the advice on here invaluable. Thanks to all.0 -
Hi just wondering if someone can help us. My other half has received a letter from the ombudsman saying a company has agreed to refund premiums paid plus interest at 8%.
This was for personal income protection that wasnt wanted but couldnt have the loan to buy a car without.
The plan started in December 1995 and the last letter is dated 1999 but hes unsure if this could have continued longer.
There was a monthly payment of £9 for all this time and maybe longer.
Neither of us are particularly good at maths and just wondered if someone could roughly work this out for us so when they send the offer letter we have a clue as to whats what. Thank you0 -
Anyone claimed successfully from Halifax or Lloyds receive acknowledgement letters?0

I have just received an offer from HSBC of just over £2000 for a loan that I took out 17 years ago.
I had no record of my original loan or the PPI that they sold me but I am still using the current account that they took the monthly repayments from. With nothing more than my account number, they we able to trace back to a policy that I took out almost 2 decades ago!
It may not be the largest refund but I wanted to share so that others aren't put off simply because their policy was over 6 years ago :j0 -
I rang RBS today to find out where they with my LOMBARD loan from 1997. The guy gave me a bit of spiel before informing me they have upheld my claim and I would be getting an offer via the post shortly. I asked if he had any idea how much I had been awarded not expecting him to be able to reply.
He then informed me I would be receiving around £10,000 ! Wow I still don't quite believe it and won't until the letter arrives.0
