  • What were you reclaiming: mortgage ppi
Who was the provider: cheltenham and gloucester
How much did you get back: £3992
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: A couple of letters and lots of phone calls to Lloyds (only because we submitted the claim in mid-July and it was taking sooooo long!)

We took out our first mortgage in 1996 and cancelled it 6 years later after seeing a financial advisor who told us we didn't need it because our jobs provided sickness cover. Didn't think anything else about it. We were very young and naive when we took out the mortgage and were told we needed PPI to get the mortgage.
Roll on a few years and I'm getting harassed from the other half for not shredding bank statements and old documents that have been left in the corner of the study after a clear out. (Admittedly they had been there for a couple of years!).
Found our old PPI details in amongst these which I used to claim against Lloyds. They initially couldn't find my old details (we moved in 2000 and they only had my new details) but it looks like they found them in their archives with the info I was able to provide them with. If I had shredded my paperwork I would not have had any evidence at all!
Phoned them today and they said they sent a letter out on 9th Oct, and should get payment in 28 days.

I also claimed back my mortgage exit fee in July (after seeing this on MSE:money:) and we got back £258 (also from C&G) with no fuss and within 2 weeks. I used the templates on MSE.

Thanks for all the great advice on this forum, and good luck to everyone else who is eligible for a PPI refund!

    HI

I sorry if i have posted in the wrong place or wrong thread ,
I am helping a friend who was turnt down for ppi with lloyds.
he was self employed, explained he was self employed had medical issues and refused ppi on sale of loan , loan was taken out through phone and fax, ppi box was not ticked and he thought he had not taken it out, he recieved no ppi booklet ect.
After going into bank he found out ppi had been added.
hence letter sent, 5 weeks later recieved a letter stating.
    loan was taken in branch.
i am persuaded verbal consent must of been given.
the policy booklet you were given explains the benefits and limitations of this policy and i am also of the opinion that this was brought to your attention at the time of sale.
they go to state he should of read in his own time.
he did send a copy of paperwork unticked
please could someone give some advice ,

Get back in touch, tell them you reject the reasons they gave for not upholding the complaint, reiterate the reasons for mis sell and enclose a copy of the un-ticked paperwork and tell them this PPI was not asked for as the paperwork shows and the fact this was done on the phone and not in branch, let them know that if they do not reconsider this will be taken to FOS.

    What were you reclaiming: Loan
Who was the provider: Barclays Bank
How much did you get back: £9,249.40
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: After a letter

Reclaiming PPI wasn't just about getting money back, but about getting debt free for me. I'd spent many years paying back credit cards and a loan, and I'd reached a point where all the cards were paid up and I had settled the loan with money borrowed from a relative. (I wouldn't suggest this is the best way to get debt free for everyone, as bankruptcy is a less painful option, but I felt it was right to honour debts I'd accumulated).

I didn't think I could apply for a PPI claim because of being in debt, but I filled in the forms supplied by MSE in an evening and sent it off fully expecting to get nothing back.

My first letter offered me £9,249.40! This included the original PPI premium, interest on the PPI and 8% per annum in interest. However, Barclays had made the cheque out to a debt company that I'd already settled with.

A little discouraged, I sought advice from the CAB and sent proof that I'd settled and they sent the cheque again, but this time in my name. Incredibly, what this means for us is that we've cleared our debt and actually come out with some savings!

Hopefully, my little story will encourage you to have a go. You really don't have anything to lose except the time it takes to do the paperwork and the results could be, well, life-changing.

Thanks again to MSE for the very helpful guide and forms!

I have a moan any suggestions - I wrote to HFC in May 2012 about PPI on a loan I had years ago. I sent them the agreement and bank statement with the payments on. I received a letter in June stating that they had not received any documentation and the claim had been closed due to no information recieved. I then called them in June to say that I had sent the letter by recorded delivery and they should had received it. They said to resend the documents (which i did) and then called them and they said they had received them. Since the beginning of July I have phoned them every couple of weeks with the same answer that they are still investigating it. I called them today with the same response, no disprespect to the call centre operative but they are just like robots, I told the operative that it is the same answer all the time and was there no one else to talk to she said no that is the only number. The call is based in India but I do have a p.o. box address in Coventry Uk. Any suggestions to what else I can do.
    I appreciate your comments:)
  • did you also complete the fsa form, if not I'd complete that then send off with another copy of your loan agreement.

I did, I completed the form from this website and the loan document had my full name, address, date of birth, agreement number (or so I thought), loan amount, interest, ppi, etc.

Would it be worth persuing this with the FOS?

    What were you reclaiming: Loan
    Who was the provider: Churhill/Lombard
How much did you get back: £1803
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: After 1 letter
And then write your brief reclaim tale
I tried to claim this back years a go but go no where after finding churchill loans do't exist anymore. I was mis sold the PPI after i was told "i couldn't have the loan without PPI becasue i started a new job". I had to take the PPI (didn't know different then). I found who the PPI was with (lombard) rang them for more info and found out that RBS would of taken over Churchill. I sent a MSE letter and within 4 weeks i was sent a offer and excepted it.
