PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

July 2012 I rang up all the companies I could remember ever having financial dealings with - Mortgages, Cards, Loans etc.
Every single one came back negative with the exception of the Halifax who told me I had PPI as part of a 7 year loan (£10,000) that had literally ended the month before. I rang their PPI line and complained. Heard nothing for 8 weeks, rang back to be told it had been refused and I had been sent a letter weeks before. I asked for a copy of the letter. In the meantime I wrote my own letter listing EVERY finance product I had EVER had including 2 mortgages with them WITHOUT PPI asking the question WHY would I not take PPI out on a large mortgage but choose to do so on a £10,000 loan?. Anyhow, waited a bit longer - still nothing. Then I get a phone call from my local Halifax who had seen a large payment was due to go into my bank (wife sold some shares) and did I want to open a savings account for this money! I told him I was not happy that it had taken over 15 weeks for NO ONE to contact me re PPI yet within a day or two I was called about opening another account! Eventually I sent a tweet to the Halifax (@AskHalifaxBank) about this. Within 30 mins I got a call asking me for more details - more than they ever asked when I initially called them. Anyway less than 2 weeks later a cheque landed for over £4,300!
Although this website didn't directly help I thought I'd post this as encouragement for ANYONE who thinks they can't do it on their own - here's proof that you CAN.0 -
Hi All, well my subsequent claim with Cooperative Bank has been rejected due to insufficient information. My original claim for loans from 2000 - 2006 was upheld but there were previous loans not taken into consideration. I requested a SAR & sent the information off but only had 2 Credit Agreements & 1 payment schedule for another loan. Not enough apparently need all 3 CAs & all 3 payments schedules as loans were settled early as part of a consolidation chain. They haven't even considered a goodwill payment which I suggested if the info was insufficient. Bit disappointed to be honest. Have posted another letter to the SAR Team as it seems odd they have payment details of loan in 1996 but no CA & no payment details of loan in 1997 but have CA. 3rd loan was from 1994 & was in joint names so not too bothered about that one. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.0

Unless you have your own statements to prove a regular payment, you're out of luck.
If you banked with a different bank [and are still banking with them] they may have statements but again, you will have to send a SAR.

Firstly, many thanks to Martin and this site for helping with info and the relevant forms to send off making it very easy to start the process off!
Today I have received two offers from 2 loans i had with RBS, and was just wondering of anyone actually knows how they work the PPI out?
Basically, ive had an offer of just over £1500, for PPI on a loan of £6,500, (which im assuming is pretty good?) but the other loan of £4,100 they made an offer of £185? Is there any rhyme and reason to the workings out as it all seems very random judging by these amounts? Is it worth taking the second claim to the ombundsman?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated0 -
they will only offer what you actually paid plus 8% interest.
You may have paid the loan off early, or consolidated it into a larger loan, or claimed on the PPI
Ask them for a breakdown of the redress.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I claimed for PPI on loans I had in the past from HFC and RBS. I applied toHFC by letter and RBS by letter and then phone (there was an address anomaly which RBS struggled to understand). Both made offers HFC over £1300 and RBS over £15,700.
Just waiting for the payouts now. But for the advice on this site I probably wouldn't have claimed without it. I put it off for some years so glad I bit the bullet and did it and it really wasn't hard.
Phoning was easier as I only limited details of loans but when enquiring they gave me a list of all loan accounts and the amount they were for. They were in fact, very helpful and the offers came through very quickly.0 -
Many thanks for the advice on this forum, what seemed like a daunting task claiming my ppi back, was actually so simple, 1 letter sent to rbs, 7 weeks later I opened a letter off them today with an offer of £36,881.12
I'm still in shock now! Happy days!0 -

Waiting for Capital One and Tesco now, fingers crossed.
Also had a loan with Marks & Spencer back in 2002 had the paperwork, so sent that off, told me I should hear back by 14th November, PPI on that was £2500, without interest's. Fingers and toes crossed for that one;)
