    Hi,
I am currently trying to help my mother in law with a ppi claim with Barclays. We advised that she didn't need ppi as she had means to cover bills etc and never asked for it. Barclays have now come back asking for further information on her employers sickness scheme which we don't understand as she wasn't part of one and we never emanated her being included in one. We stated she had alternative means and family that could help. Has anyone had anything like this before and if so any help would be grately appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    D

You now have to give proof of her alternative means .
  • hi folks
it seems very quiet on here recently is the furore over about PPI or what?
hardly any lloydstsb successes or failures i am still waiting though it will be 11weeks on thursday gonna ring if nothing in post but i think they are playing hardball now they have had enough paying out.

Martin lewis is very popular on the building sites at the moment:)
Thanks to talk on the building site about martin lewis and ppi claims.
My partner came home , hence the start of researching this website and they have claimed: thousands through mis sold ppi due to being self employed and not covered in their policy's.
I think lloyds are back logged with builders at present lol.:T

I sent all the relevant docs to Capital One in March and had no response. I then called them and had to start again as they claimed that I had sent the complaint to the wrong address.
The correspondence address on the letters I have received from them recently is PO Box 5283, Nottingham. NG2 3YG

I called them today as it is approx 12 weeks since I sent my claim off, i have had an acknowledgement and a letter requesting documentation in relation to my name change (sent claim off in maiden name, card in married name), that was 4 weeks ago. Today I was they had not received my documents and could i send them to the address you have quoted and not the address on the letterhead! so looks like am 4 weeks behind now. am not one for chasing and was going to leave it so glad i didn't - i will be checking on a regular basis.

Does anyone know how long Barclaycard are taking, was due a response by 6 August, so guess i better give them a call too.
  • I wonder if anyone can help with this query? I took out a loan over the phone from Homebase either in 2003 or 2004. I don't have the paperwork, but I know from an old bank statement that the last payment was made in August 2008. The direct debits were paid to ARG Personal Loans. I know that Homebase and Argos are the same company. At the moment, Homebase loans are provided by Barclays Bank. Does anyone know if Barclays was the provider in 2003 or 2004?
  • Hi - I had a loan with First Direct for around 10 years that I renewed several times to change cars etc.
I downloaded the claim form off your website, filled it all in using the ombudsman advice notes and sent it off.
Seven weeks later, a settlement offer of just over £15,000! Just don't bother using these PPI companies - get the form filled in and sent off!

    Hello all,

I thought I should chip in re: lloyds
Claim amount: Approx £2000 (over 3 loans)
I submitted my claim on the 17th of July (so the 8 week point was 11th of september)
I recieved a letter advising that it might take upto another 8 weeks on the 1st of September. I thought it was worth adding because ive noticed that this 8 week extension letter (due to "us being very busy and recieving a large number of claims"), seems quite common, but also that it seems that people think that recieving this letter is a bad sign? Wouldn't mind some clarification as to why that is if possible.

    Thanks

Why would this be a bad sign? at least you are being acknowledged within the 8 week period.
If the banks are inundated with claims it seems reasonable to request extra time to investigate claims thoroughly.
Requests for a extra 8 weeks should not be viewed as sinister,it should not affect your claim.
You should still get the same response whether you wait 8 weeks or 16.

Now you know why your own original posts about the "lottery " of successful complaints seemed so wide of the mark.
    "Conspiracy" theories are just that.
  • Just thought I would share our Firstplus PPI mis-selling success.

We took out a Firstplus loan back in 2006 to help pay for an extension on our house that had gone over budget. We were conned in to taking out the PPI by one of their silver tongued salesman who sold it to us as a form of savings plan, he advised us that if we did not make a claim on the insurance after 5 yrs we would get back the premium. What was never explained to us was that the premium was paid up front and added to the loan and that we would be paying an additional £99 a month for the whole term of the loan which was 17yrs. The premium amounted to just over £10,000 and the total cost of the PPI over the term of the loan amounted to over £17,000!! Looking back now I can’t believe I fell for it but I learnt a harsh lesson.

About 4 years ago I tried unsuccessfully to claim that the PPI was mis-sold to me and after sending dozens of letters to Firstplus my patience ran out as Firstplus began to demand that I pay them for copies of the recordings of my original phonecalls. Last year I claimed back the £10,000 premium and again raised the issue of the PPI being missold and the Firstplus employee even had the cheek to tell me that I could get access to my £10,000 but only if I agreed to not pursue a misselling claim against them!

However about 3 months ago after reading these forums I decided to give it another go. I filled in the forms on the links on their website and sent them off the claim with a copy of a letter from the MSE template. I received an acknowledgement that my complaint was being dealt with shortly after and informed that a decision would be made and communicated to me by the 25th August. On 7th August I received a letter from Firstplus acknowledging that the PPI had been mis-sold to me and offered to restructure my loan, repay the additional interest I had paid as a consequence of being missold the policy and offered me compensation at the standard 8%. In all they offered to repay me £8951.56.

I am now just waiting for the cheques to arrive and the money will now be used to pay for next years holiday which were thinking we wouldn’t be able to afford!

It just goes to show that persistence pays off in the end!

  • I thought i would try my luck on reclaiming my mis-sold PPI with barclay's previously (Woolwich) from 1996 to 1999, recieved letter back from Barclay's denying any wrong doing on mis selling, :( so how comes i was totally unaware i had PPI? anyways its off to the FSO now all letters done and sent... will update with outcome.
